As someone who is trying to start a business in designing PCBs and software for prototyping purposes, it's really great to hear some words of encouragement. You are right, it is hard starting something of your own. You're basically enslaving yourself. But it if you keep up, you will see success.
Good video and it does add up over time. You will start to figure out what sells and why. Make sure to create other lead magnets like blog post and videos of the process of each new item. It sort of webs together into traffic and sales over time. Free items that link to paid items also helps. Good luck with your business!
I found this very motivational. Like, ignoring the 12bucks income, the whole process and the good attitud can be use for many other projects. Thanks for this video Kev!
Thank you for sharing this video! I like this video because I need inspiration and a realistic outlook on trying to sell my own models. I’ve been trying and failing for several years with model selling, and I constantly feel like I’m hitting walls and dead ends. I know that a lot of that is the fear and doubt. I’m going to be using this video as a way to gauge my workflow and success.
I'm glad I could help, and thank you for watching! Also, I can definitely relate to you about fear and doubt. Its so easy to think negatively. I catch myself doubting often, so I'm constantly having to replace those thoughts with positive thoughts. Keep pushing forward, Nathan, and you will have success before you know it!
I started selling 3D models on CG trader the last year and i made about 350 US dollars , now i bought myself a Resin Anycubic M3 Printer and i started working on my previous models to be print friendly which i wish by the end of the year i can make at least 50 dollars per month as a stable income and increase it gradually keep up the good work mate
I really want to do this but I've found the hardest thing by far is not learning to do it which takes time, nor the work designing and testing which is very time consuming, and I don't mind that either. Eventually I'm always happy with the finished product. Its the rejection from the public when you spent so much time working on something, put it out there and it doesn't sell at all. Its very humbling to spend a week working on something then asking $2 or $3, basically garage sale money for it and it sits there never getting a single sale or like, week after week. And then you know, you may design several in a row that bomb, and you're like, ugh. I have sold a couple, one that sold quite a few, but just one like that so far. Though I haven't published a lot yet, I have this fear of having hundreds of designs sitting out there with no sales 😅 You need to sell a lot though at those prices to pay bills, even if they do sell!
Forget those $12 - its still some money and mostly people appreciation and support. Ofc it worth it if you like to do it(you would do it for free, but you got paid... $12 for now... but the future is there waiting for you). Its all good to making models in CAD, but how to/you come up with what do design(what kind of product of purpose or look or else)
Most cheap 3D printers can deliver a very good quality at low speeds. So instead of buying one very expensive printer it is better to buy several cheap ones. If you don't want to sell unique parts, this is the way to go for small batches.
Great video but you should definitely try and go into more detail on what and how you did things, like I wouldve liked to hear why you chose those products, how you advertised them, and what you spent most of your time doing.
The reason things like this dont sell very well is probally cuz like toys are the highest demand right now ive donne some research and acritulated toys sell the best thats why i went from onshape to blender
Perhaps as a SolidWorks expert and Product Designer I should’ve tried selling 3D prints on ETSY rather than AI generated artwork for the last 12 months! Oh well, live and learn. Nice video too
Thank you. I've run into to many roadblocks along the way, but I'm past those now, and I'm going to be producing a lot of designs and content from here on out! I can't wait for you to test them out!
I think you're right, maybe beginners should give models away for free just to build up their profile... But damn, 12 dollars is not gonna be enough to buy my favorite pizza.
My first ever design was a drone payload release with no moving parts. If I can do that with absolutely zero experience, anyone can learn to create 3D designs
I think a big part of the reason you made so little was the products you chose to design, phone amps are ancient history, something poor kids use when chilling on the block and ghetto kids don't shop on etsy/3d markets they just make their own out of a bottle or bowl, same with the clip and coasters just meh pointless comfort items if you would of picked a niche and researched what people in that niche are looking for and then doubled down by joining all the online communities related to that niche and promoting your service and offering custom commissions you would of probably made 10/100x that, at least you are honest tho and not selling everyone bullshit best of luck
That is a good question. I'm not entirely sure to be honest with you. A lot of people have designed Pokémon characters, Anime characters etc. and haven't gotten in trouble (But they may get in trouble in the future). I think the real danger for getting sued is when you sell the design on Etsy or other websites. The IP owners won't be happy if you are making money off what they own.
@@kevbot. i was getting ganged up by admins and some other people saying I could get sued and they threatened to ban me because of it. And they did. So i had to take down all my designs to not cause anymore trouble. I joined the group a few days before and this is what i got😭 plus calling me a spammer and scammer for posting 2 times a day. In reality like what you said, a lot of other people are doing it as well. If that’s the case then sure. But it’s hypocritical to say that to me (a newbie) when other people are doing it as well, even earning thousands on patreon alone. Very little people could understand me in that group. But it’s best to not be there anymore 😮💨
Nice video. I'm just looking into selling my designs. This was a useful video, warning me not to expect too much early on. Just noticed the video is 5 months old. Have you any updates?
Thank you, I'm glad the video helped you out! I had to take a break from designing for a bit due to unforseen circumstances but I did get more subscribers, and I have been getting more sales in the mean time. I'm going to really be ramping up my designs in the weeks two come and I will do an updated video when I have more data and information.
True enough and then some of it in the end also is just dumb luck.... as I saw myself. I've seen YT channels say the hardest part by far is finding your market and something people want..... one even went so far as saying "only then when all the real work is done, you whip up the design" as if that part was basically nothing. It may seem that easy if you have all those skills, but unfortunately for me I am still learning. I've found marketing also difficult, as most social media sites seem ready to throw out or erase immediately anyone who appears to be "plugging" or advertising things to sell. Of course I salute all these people, many very talented who give things away for free. Unfortunately for me also that's a luxury I can't afford to do. If I were comfortable and wealthy and could just do this for fun, I'd have a great time making and publishing things for free use. But my bill collectors aren't so generous :/
Thank you! Assuming you already have the skills to make 3d models, the next step is uploading them to websites where you can sell them. Like cults 3D, printables, Patreon, ect. Then I would promote your designs on your social media and also free places like Facebook and reddit 3d printing groups. I hope this helps!
I studied 3D for two years and during that time I earned $100 from it. until one day I made $40 right away. Since then there has been no more profit, but I continued to study and make a portfolio. 😢
It is incredible the amount of effort people put to create a channel to show they make a sacrifice while doing something to make money but in the end, the real goal is to just have a content subject video to start winning money from TH-cam.
Believe me this is the truth do not believe other peoples who said I sell thousands of dollars they maybe so little or work with the site that sell or 3d printer company I think or has genius ideas
bro i just subbed because of ur honesty and realness and not saying u earned thousands etc
Thank you man, I appreciate that! 🙏
3d model selling is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to be patient and prioritise quality over quantity.
I completely agree.
Hi, do you have any experience selling 3d models?
Nice video, straight to the point. Keep creating!
Thank you!

$350 is really good, and I'm sure you can hit the 50-dollar a month mark. Are you only selling on CG? Also, thank you for the kind words, mate!
Yes i do sell on CG trader and Artstation as well , I can send you my link if you want @@kevbot.
Yes, i do have a CG and Artstaion account I can send you the links if you are interested in having a look @@kevbot.
I don't know why youtube doesnt show my comments , but if you can see it yes I do have a CG selling account and Artstation as well@@kevbot.
Yes i do sell on CG trader , dunno why my comment got disabled every time @@kevbot.

Can I use the community edition for selling designs online? Thanks!

I think you are right and you have a great point. Niching down is definitely the way to go. Thank for the tip and thanks for watching!
You mentioned Patreon. How are you usung it, in terms of 3d printing??
I use Patreon to share my designs. I offer a commercial license on there for people who want to sell the prints.
Why is there fiver watermark on thumbnail xd
I didn't even notice that lol. I uploaded the wrong one.
Thank's
keep it up

Find the market first, then design to the market. Taking blind shots in the dark isn’t likely to work very well.
True enough and then some of it in the end also is just dumb luck.... as I saw myself.

+all your files are permanent digital assets
Make one a day and see what happens in a year

Can you make a part for me??

Very cool, earned a sub from me!
Thanks you!
I stopped pricing my files, and have focused on better quality. I made $12 before making everything free

Bro no joke why do you look like AI real life is starting to get harder to tell the difference haha
Maybe I am AI lol
Oh man your name is Kevbot yep he’s AI I knew it 🤣
Make sure you pay your taxes 😂
😂
cool cool, but you look like ai lol
I am ai 😉
one tip for the video here. Don't use the $100 bills as this confuses a lot of viewers guaranteed!
You talk too much about nothing important. Please just get to the point and quit dragging it out.
