    Simpler and easier both to start and to upgrade.
    A lot of profit could be made here.

    Since the limiting factor of these handhelds is the cpu, something cool to cover in the future would be dlss 3 frame generation and lossless scaling 2x and 3x frame generation. Since these essentially redirect the load from cpu to the gpu potential. It could help saturate the oculink bandwidth more optimally as well. Just remember to cap the base fps (the one you are generating from) to exactly half your intended refresh and fps for the lossless scaling - that will produce the smoothest results.

      @andrewgarcia8907 it took about 5 weeks, but that could vary based on how much you are willing to pay for shipping. They provide a bunch of different options for you. Based on the weight of the item and form of transportation. I really hated to process, but the longer I've owned it the more I'm glad I went through with the process. Shoot me an email if you get hung up during the checkout process. It can get so confusing, and I wish I had someone to touch a question or two off of when I bought mine.

    yeah I totally agree with you dude. We need more OCulink, more people should know about OCulink and the possibility that it can bring. Even if I haven't tried it myself yet, I've tried to gather all the information that I could about it and I think that it's just sick the possibility to have a single device that you can use and carry around but that you can also attach to something like this and use it as a desktop. I have a rog ally and I was considering doing some little modding replacing the internal ssd with the gpd oculink adaptor and I think that I might go with this osmeta eg01 as the gpu board (well at least when I'll have the money for a gpu and a better monitor since right now my pocket is quite empty). By the way nice video!

    • @Slyclientthetechdad
      @Slyclientthetechdad  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think you will be amazed once you can get your hands on one. The experience is exactly how you decided. You can take these devices with you anywhere. It's such an awesome feeling. They even have an osmeta that comes in a housing that you may want to consider. Picture the GPU in a little box. Makes it even easier to carry. I believe it's called the Osmeta H4. Also definitely take you time. I have a feeling that this technology may take off at a rapid pace. At least in the niche market. Seems like something better is announced everyday. If you think about it, keep me posted on what you decide to do, and I will be happy to answer any question you might have. Thanks for checking my video out. I appreciate it.

      @@Slyclientthetechdad well, I'll try to keep you update. In this moment I was trying to consider all the different solution that I can go for and I was trying to gather all the information I need because I'm pretty new to PCs, so I don't want to mess up with what I have. And yeah, it seems like everyday there is something new regarding OCulink, so I'll take some time. Also I have to wait till something like summer to return working full time and earn something to actually afford everything, because right now I'm busy with school (which is something probably good because knowing myself I would have already tried to do the whole thing without being adequately aware of what I was doing) . However something that I was trying to better understand right now was how to make windows run from an external drive, specifically on the Rog Ally, because from what I've seen it seems like I should do a fresh installation of the OS on the external drive through rufus. However I was trying to understand if it was possible to clone the already existing OS on the external drive and boot it normally almost nothing changed.

    What's your opinion about fan noise of this OSMETA EGO1-M (especially the 800W PSU) vs GPD G1 2024 at 100W? And GPD G1 60W?
    I'm about to make a decision and buy an eGPU, I value silence of operation and practicality of the eGPU solution over extreme performance. My new 2024 GPD Win Max 2 is coming in a few weeks!

    • @Slyclientthetechdad
      @Slyclientthetechdad  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it. The EGO1 is very quiet. Much quieter than the G1 at 100 watts. The reason is the Osmeta is open source so the sound is able to dissipate. In contrast, the G1 is inside a housing that contains both a GPU and powersupply combined. I was hesitant about the idea of open source initially. But using the EGO1 M, I feel much different. I'm loving it because it is so quiet. I actually use a dust blower every couple of days, so there is no dust build-up. Other than that, the connection has been flawless. If you are concerned about the sound of the G1 at 100 watts, I would definitely consider another option. It's great that it is a compact solution that you can travel with but the trade off in sound, for someone who is sensitive to it, may not be the right choice. This is just my opinion but I hope this helps.

      @guido841 Thank you, and I really appreciate the kind words. I find it nerve-racking making these videos, but it's good to hear the reassurance that I'm making a difference. Great question, by the way. I can't believe I forgot to mention drivers. After installing the nvidia drivers, my mini would not recognize the gpu. I needed to unzip and download (Nvidia error 43 driver fixer). Once installed on the gpd device, it then recognized it, and it works flawlessly. You will definitely need to do this, but it's easy. You should google it and bookmark it so you have easy access once your device arrives. It took me an hour researching to figure this out, so hopefully, it will save you some time when getting everything set up. The purpose of it is for an nvidia gpu you allow Oculink connection from what I understand.

      Hi, I’m in the same situation as you. I want a complete quiet system. I have a G1 today and don’t like the sound. I bought the ED01-m and was disappointed of the fan noise but fixed the issue. It wasn’t easy but works totaly silent today for me and my new 7900 xtx. Cut all the mesh in the back of the fan(open hole), the removed the fan and cut the cable. Added a noctua 40mmx10mm fan three pins. I connect the fan to an external usb to three pin powersupply but you need to connect the yellow cable from the eg01-m to the noctua fan or else the system won’t start. The I added 2mm damping material inside the chassis too. Now it’s completely silent. You can connect the usb cable to your computer so when computer is off the fan is off 👍

      @Slyclientthetechdad  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching. The PSU and the fan noise are barely noticeable. You can hear a slight hum, but that's about it, and the only time i notice the PSU is when I use the power switch on the dock to turn it on. It's actually one of the benefits of this type of setup. When you have a gpu inside a case. The sound bounces against the inside of the case, and that's where most of the noise comes from. With an open source docked set up like this, the sounds just naturally dispute in the room. There is nothing to vibrate against. Also, unlike in the video, I usually have mine set up behind my monitor, and it is mostly out of site most of the time. I think you'd love it if you got you hands on it. Put it this way, I have a GPD G1 from 2024 and it is louder than this 4090 set up.

    just wondering how the cpu is able to handle games at ultra. don't the mini windows pcs have lower end cpus? would that be an issue and cause cpu bottlenecks? cpu in those aren't cooled too well are they? im just curious as i don't know too much about mini windows computers.

    • @Slyclientthetechdad
      @Slyclientthetechdad  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good question, Ultimately, the cpu is only capable of handling what it was manufactured to do. So, most likely, there will be bottlenecks depending on the game. Games that are heavily reliant on the gpu are less affected by this. So, although it's great for my use case, This set up does not run the same as it would if you had an I9 14900k and a 4090. So at the end of the day, it's still a 4090 and is still very capable of higher end frame rates. Look at it like this. You have a 4090 running on an 8 core cpu. That's what my Amd 7840U has. Also, this set up out performers my rtx 3080Ti i9 12900k desktop set up. I hope this helps

      @@Slyclientthetechdad I have two One Docks. One is my travel companion and is paired with an RTX A2000 12GB which is good enough to run most games at max graphical settings at 60 fps on the Win Mini's 1080p display and with Lossless Scaling's frame gen, I could easily double the frames to match the Win Mini's 120 hz display.
      The other One Dock is paired with an RTX 4060 LP which I use for my triple monitor desktop setup at home. Good enough for 1440p gaming and again with Lossless Scaling's frame gen, I can easily hit those higher fps on my higher refresh monitor. If you wanted to make use of the USB 4 port on the Legion Go, you could buy a GPD G1. I own one and its amazing. Not a 4090 but it is fully compatible with usb3 and 4 ports. It comes with the Oculink cable connected directly to the Dock as well as a third plug that plugs from the dock to the top of the graphics card. So basically it has everything you need with the exception of replacing the power supply cable. As far as what to order, now you see what I mean. LoL it's so damn confusing, and it took forever for me to figure out what I needed to order. If you are ordering for a 4090, you want to order the 4th color. The one farthest to the right. If you hover over it with your cursor, it should say EG01M (800w) (12vhpwr Graphics Card Power Supply Cable.) I hope this helps. Also ther will be an additional shipping charge. You will be presented with options depending on the weight of you package but mine came to about an additional 45 us dollars.

      @@Slyclientthetechdad FWIW I have ordered both "colors" (and have the cables to convert one into the other. I'm happy to share.) I really, really, wish you could just buy it with both cables at time of purchase since 4090 and pretty much everything else use different power connectors. Also have heard folks say that the 550W and 800W "colors" are the same physical power supply and the 800W has an extra fan thrown in. All in all, fans seem to spin fairly quietly "as needed."

I'd stay away from Amd cards in this use case. I just dont trust the compatibility with a device like the osmeta. Even with the 4070 Ti, you will still need to download a fix called error 43 driver. I think that's the name for it. It helps with the compatibility to use a Nvidia card. Who knows what AMD might require to get it up and running.

    An external GPU is nowhere, nowhere even remotely close to a priority for the vast majority of companies and the mass public who are purchasing mini-pc's. So there is very little reason for mini-pc manufacturers to include OCuLink. You can buy an M.2 to OCuLink adapter and usually use a SATA SSD as your boot instead unless the mini-pc has multiple M.2's. Otherwise, just buy or build a SFF or standard size machine that doesn't require OCuLink to incorporate a full size GPU. No amount of pressure on manufacturers will change this if there is basically no market for it. You would need to change the purchasing companies and mass public's intended use case for mini-pc's. Basic common sense.

      Also, the desk space required for SFF builds with a discrete GPU these days has gotten extremely tiny and ready for traveling if necessary. By the time you factor in a full size GPU, adding a SFF case with ITX motherboard and SFX power supply does not require much more space than that taken up of a mini-pc with an external GPU adaptation. So mini-pc's with OCuLink become moot unless you physically need the two separated for some reason which is again, not the intended use case for the vast majority of buyers.
