This video came along exactly when I needed it. I was beginning to wonder why I wanted to make another journal. If I started with the questions “how is the journal is supposed to function” or “why would someone be interested in this particular journal” it would make things so clear and more fun to make! Thank you for this! ❤❤❤
Great video. Really useful. I shall be referring to this. Sometimes I invent a person or a character whose journal I am making. It frees me up to be more experimental, because it’s ‘granny rose’s’ journal and she liked sewing and her herb garden and her Bible. Or I think about the person I am making it for and list their favourite things, books, colours etc. that’s helped me.
Thank you for putting this up. My style is solidifying but I've yet to find its category. I had avoided flip-through videos for most of my time on youtube, thinking tutorials were more what I needed. But you make a valid point on the use of them as inspiration and 'jumping-off points'. So thanks for the change of perspective.
This was very helpful, thank you! This for me was kinda like finding out my journal love language😉 I really like to have the space to write and so many videos primarily focus on tons of ephemera, which is a must also but I am relatively new to this and to sum this video up… it really helped me❤️
"Finding out my journal love language", love that! We are so glad you found this video helpful. Thanx for all the tips. Really great that Journaling is a non pressure more fun to do. And it's a DIY and if it's for yourself no one has to like it except you❤❤❤
Love all your journals very inspiring. I usually get brain block deciding what to make and now mostly it's themed. I get carried away with the embellishing side of it and never leave many blank papers to write on, not that I'm a journal writer, but sometime get a bit frustrated with making a journal.
Thank you so much! I have a lot of fun making them, and several tutorials on our channel if you are interested in checking any of those out. :) Thanks so much for watching!
glad you mentioned the theme that you wanted your "Poe" book to be ... I've been tossing around an idea in my head to make a journal based on a rock group's Concept album. Now I know I don't have to feel like a "freak" if I do it lolol Great Video Kyra - THANKS!!!!
What a great video! Flip through and tutorials is where I find my inspiration. I always make it my own and try new things. Some ideas don't work out very well but I do try! Hugs.....
Thanks For This Great Tutorial. I just make my journals without thinking about it ,the my print kits make it easy to do and I just use what ever comes to mind an run with it.But yes I do take breaks from jj and do some sewing and scrapbooking so I don’t burn myself out. It’s so much fun using the beautiful kits from My Porch Print so I say thank you to your mom and her girls for your lovely kits❤❤
I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this video!! 🥰 Informative, educational, inspiring, relaxing…all at the same time! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video!
Brilliant and informative video. Now I know what my “style” is. Hahaha. I never knew, I just created what I liked…..However, I love the many other suggestions you brought to the surface. As always love love your videos. This one is especially great! Opens up my crafting mind! Thank you…….😊
This is great video! I always establish my purpose before I make my journal. I'm working on a Halloween junk journal, which is a combo of the Haunted House kit, Halloween Snippet Kit, the Academia Add-ons, The Halloween Guest Checks, a few odds and ends from the Lost Things, and lastly the Buttons kit 😂 I'm super obsessed lol. It's turning out amazing by the way! Edit: I have the Pink Halloween kit but I won't have time to make it before Halloween 😢
I’m always feeling like I get into creative ruts. But I really, really relate to wanting to throw it away in the middle of making one. I’m trying to make a conscious decision to talk myself into continuing, instead of giving up. Hugs 🤗❤
Yes! Way to keep a good attitude! 🤍 I try not to throw anything out. Sometimes, even if a project doesn't pan out the way I dreamed, I still end up using parts of it to make something new. Nothing is ever truly a waste! :)
I have two styles, one is what I call a naked journal. It usually comes from a paper pack as a base and although I have some tucks and tags and ephemera, but usually one per page. Clean edges. I type of accent paper repeated and mixed in. My other style is stuffed. And those are chunky. Every page has multiple interactive elements. Those are my favorites to make, but I am usually sick of them before I finish and I have to push through to get it done.
Thank you for this! I appreciate all the points you’ve mentioned as well as all the new (to me!) ideas! I’ve got soo many ideas and don’t know where to start! This is a tremendous help, thx!
I'm getting ready to make a Quincenera Idea Book for my granddaughter. Its going to have plenty of space to write down ideas and as i'm writing, thinking its going to need pockets for picture ideas. :)
Thank you so much for this video - you have given me the confidence to carry on with my journal making. I have often felt like they are not good enough or don't look like this person's one or that person's one. I have also felt inhibited to develop my own style. This video has given me the push to like the things I like and do the things that I want to do.
That's so great to hear! 🤍The best journals to create are the one's that make YOU happy. Best of luck on your projects, we're sure they will be amazing!
Lot's of great ideas, and beautiful journals !. I'm curious. Have you ever worked/played in a handmade paper journal ?. I just purchased one, and am trying to figure out how to use it. Thanks !
I really enjoyed the overview of journal styles. I realize I basically chose a kit or season and go from there. One of the journals you flipped through was an art journal. Is there a play list for that journal. It was so different than the usual collection of different art papers to be filled by the recipient.
Hello! Here is the full flip-thru of that journal, and in the description box of that video is an entire list of tutorials showing how to make things found in the journal. :) th-cam.com/video/W82oQ_gg_KU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gFL4Bv8TfVw19NX8 Hope this helps!
❓👉🏻Fantastic video❤ In your ivory/sepia journal around then6.35 mark you show some coffee dyed pages that have what appears to be the same curvy cut edge. Did you free hand that or is there a special tear ruler you use?❓
The curve in the coffee dyed papers is just naturally how they curl. I think it's because of the uneven weight of the pages on top of them when the journal is closed. You could probably get a purposeful wave if you took the coffee dyed papers while still damp and laid them over a wavy surface of some sort. Maybe I will try to experiment with that and if I come up with a method I will share it in a video. :) Hope this helped!
Thanks for this great video!
Love you so much ❤thank you ❤❤❤❤❤
Great idea for video. Thanks for the ideas.
