i was saving for a $120 dollar fiberglass skimboard but when i heard you say that foam skimboards are good for riding waves I was relieved so i just bought a foam skimboard thanks
I found a foam Bord at the beach wich someone forgot and now i saved a ton of money but I live in Germany where are like no beaches wich are good and got waves so i am gonna buy a wood board any recommendations for a beginner 2024
Do you have any suggestions for a skimboard under $200 NZD that I could catch some waves on? Preferably a foam board. I in Nelson and rabbit island is a good skimboard place. I used to have a wooden board but I grew out of it and I want to get a new board so I can catch some bigger waves. Thanks
You won't get a decent foam board at that price point. You could possibly pick up a second hand board for that price on Trademe at the right time but really your budget isn't enough
No they're rubbish. Cheap wood that wears put and falls apart. No structural integrity. Just another cheap board made to be sold in places that don't care how they work.
I live in England and am beginning I just wondered if wood or foam is better because there are waves occasionally but most of the time it’s very small waves. Any suggestions?
Would it make sense to put grips on a wood board or is that only something you do with foam boards? (I could just use wax but if it makes sense, grips seem easier.)
Most quality wood boards these days have some form of foam traction. A tail pad and arch bar imo is stupid on a wood board. Flat foam traction is where it's at.
OXS Enterprises Thanks, but also my board is wood and dosent have any foam traction and I love the shape of my board so I don’t want to get a new one but it just needs more grip. Are foam pads that’s cover wood boards something you can buy?
@@OXSEnterprises no obstacles, just flatland tricks. flat water and waves, Deep and not deep would be perfect :D. I got a pool at home, it's 150cm deep.. Would be nice to use it here too
I don't know much about them. Going to assume there's a bit much tail rocker and not sure how durable they are. Can't imagine they're not made for sand impact and things.
My mom used to work for Formica and she made me a skimboard.. just found it in my shed gonna give it a go 😆
Awesome
how did it go ?
How was it
Spoon 79 it was super old.. the layers split open.. so I just bought a new Victoria skimboard
@@lousydevotee9169 I just bought a new wooden one

CinematicToaster43 foam is the same as fibreglass
@@RainDoesIt are you sure dude
@@RainDoesIt sometimes boards are made of wood with a layer of fibreglass over them so no
Thank you for this vid, I was trying to hit waves with my wooden board and just felt it wasn’t right
Awesome video Sam!
Cher buddy
What’s the lowest price I could get for one? I’m hopefully getting one for my bday and my relatives don’t like to spend much
Look it up in your part of the world. I'm in New Zealand.
OXS Enterprises ok thanks
I got mine for $20

OXS Gromlin
the foam is called fiberglass and i completely agree with the wooden boards theyre amazing if you dont live close to the beach.
Foam is foam and fibreglass is a cloth. They're not the same thing.
LOL
Should I put grips on a foam board
Most people do. I would.
@@OXSEnterprises i just got a wave bandit soft skim

Excellent video! Have you a recommendation for a foam skin for less than $150 ?
Maybe look for a used one at that price
I know wavestorm has a foam skimboard for 100$ I believe
What about deep water with no waves?
Small lakes for example
About the least enjoyable skim conditions you can have. I would buy a winch.
@@OXSEnterprises I already have one 🤙😂
But i guess in this condition a foam board would be better
What glue do you use in the formica sir?
Epoxy
@@OXSEnterprises do you mean sir you use epoxy resin in the formica and railings to sir?
is it possible to sand slide on a foam skimboard
Yes
gonna buy a board soon and seeing as ur from nz do u think a wooden board from torpedo 7 is good?

@@OXSEnterprises cool thanks
what do you recommend for Florida beaches of the west coast.
I have no idea what the skim is like there. Take the information you've learnt and look at what other people are skimming in the area.
@@OXSEnterprises lmao damn that's too bad but sick video. Also idk if this helps but it can get really rough, lots of shells thats why I ask
hello. I am korean and i want to know what skimboard when i ride it at city . like shallow sheets of water
strong one . i want to ride at rainy days
A good wood board would be perfect
usually how much does it cost for a good wood board for begginer (strong)
would you say a island turbo 742 is a good starter skimboard?
Never heard of it. Assuming it's shit
I live in England and am beginning I just wondered if wood or foam is better because there are waves occasionally but most of the time it’s very small waves. Any suggestions?
Hard to say. Is it shorebreak or are the waves breaking miles out and leaving you with shin high whitewash? If it's shorebreak go foam.
Would it make sense to put grips on a wood board or is that only something you do with foam boards?

Yes they are.
How about foam in flat?
If you're meaning a foam board for flat shoreline stuff that's fine but not for rails as they will get destroyed quick.

@@OXSEnterprises last question :D can I go beach skimming with a skimstyle wakesurf board for boat riding, are there differences?

Thanks for the reply, do you know any good boards (foam) for under £50 by any chance please?
No you won't get one at that price.
you can make a homemade made wood board search it on TH-cam of you want
can you ride wooden boards on waves?
Foam is for waves, wood is for flat. There's a reason you don't see anyone riding wood boards in the waves.
Yeah you can i do it lol barely been skimboarding for a few days and i’m
able to catch waves with my 4 ft victoria wooden skimboard

Is a 15$ wood board good ? 😂 Just do it for fun on grass and sand.
Not really no.
You can definitely do it on wet sand, but if you do it on grass then put a tarp on the grass and wet the tarp

Wood
Fiber glass
Sully plexiglass

Wooden boards are faster but heavier and foam boards are lighter and slower
