OK THESE ARE FABULOUS. HAD 3 HOURS LISTENING SO FAR. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SPEAKER. SUPER TWEETER HAS SURPASSED EXPECTATIONS. STAY TUNED FOR PART 5 WITH SOUND CLIPS

ALTEC model 8, 4, & 6 from around 1981 used a piezoelectric tweeter drive element in their manta ray horn with the orange “tangerine” phase plug.
The only other high-quality piezo units are from Motorola up to the 90s in their POWERLINE horns. These were 4” square plastic horns and were an improvement over the 2x6” rectangle horns.
I have used these horn tweeters down to 2000 Hz and instead of a crossover I simply use a 0.9 MH coil in series. because these units are seen by the amplifier as a ceramic disc capacitor I experimented with many crossovers until I found that they sounded best with an inductor I know it’s crazy

Great work . Great to see a wood veneer front and no velcro 😅.

Doing a tech series is a great idea Matt. Can you address your thoughts on driver phase, bass roll off from different designs (bass reflex, infinite baffle and isobaric for example).
I’ve mentioned before my liking of the resistive port set up on these, those of a certain age may remember the very original Mission 770 (small port model) where the polypropylene bass driver would flap back and forward massively. This changed completely on the updated version with the larger port, I guess due to the bass tuning!

I think the later iterations of the Mission 770s used straws in the ports. Very curious as to how those piezos sound.....

@@mfr58 The piezo super tweeters come in around 12kHz. Very impressed by them considering how cheap they are. Very crisp and airy. Have only has a brief listen but will do a detailed evaluation in part 5

If they sound a good as they look you are onto a winner. Glad you’re busy - I’m sure it will be worth the wait for them, the issue is you only have so many hours in a day. Thanks for posting. 👍🏻

At 8.05 the crossover is clearly marked as “Falcon Acoustics”. I wasn’t aware of Falcon supplying crossovers to Celef, I must check out my own !

@@kjbunnyboiler They a generic 3 way boards. I guess CELEF just used these rather than making there own? Seen them in a few KEFs to. Yeah Falcon Acoustics bare boards
