God I loved this game...Dreamcast was such an amazing machine. We were playing Quake 3 on 56k modems, 30fps, and controllers against PC users with broadband lol
@@n-tertainmentx-tended4760 afaik DC was the first to do it, and the best. It was an incredible port. We had full access to console commands, even custom binds, and could buy a mouse k/b.
Atmosphere in this game is amazing. Nothing like in the sequels. I prefer playing it with unfiltered textures and ps1 dithering, then it looks like a cool mix of 3d and pixel art.
I absolutely love the 'new' HD Textures! However... I think the "fog" they use to reduce the Load-distance in the PSX version adds so much to the atmosphere and general feeling of horror and the unknown. Wonder if there's a way to get the best of both worlds...?
Me - Downloads Flycast to be able to play one of the best games I have ever played. Then proceeds to play the rest of the series on PC. I see now why gamers prefer PC. For Nostalgic convenience
You must have been using the universal widescreen hack in Flycast instead of the game specific widescreen patches that are separately catered to specific games. The soul reaver specific widescreen patch for the pal version does not have that issue and that version still runs at 60fps.
This may be the nostalgia speaking for me, but I feel like the blurriness of the PS1 and PC versions hide some problems that the Dreamcast version ends up revealing through its higher detail. I think a CRT filter would make the PS1 version even better.
PS1 version looks the best. The Dreamcast and PC versions are too colourful and almost cartoonish. Kain looks ridiculous on the Dreamcast version, and the music quality on the Dreamcast is far worse than the PS1. The latest version of Wrace's patch for the PC version comes close to an ideal version of the game, but not quite. The washed out look of the PS1 release is timeless. Feels more gothic and less like Legend of Zelda.
Nearly all of Crystal Dynamics games had a cartoonish edge to them. The clean look isn't inherent, all these games were originally designed to be played on a CRT in mind, even the PC version. PS1 had to technical limitations to content & compromise with. The original PC version was a direct port of it with engine improvements (larger draw distance, lighting adjustments, higher resolution support) but still 30fps like PS1. DC version is natively 60fps and visuals were improved where they could to accommodate the 640x480 resolution increase. This is noticeable with Raziel's model being slightly higher poly and having different textures compared to the PC version.
Unofficial patch for gog/pc version have broken widescreen. Its make game zoom in to achieve 16:9 which makes game claustrophobic and decrease field of view from original kadring.
Unofficial Patch for pc version: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1733917759

Unofficial Patch for pc version seems to be no longer easily awailable online. The link doesn't work anymore.

Where to get the game now on pc?@@n-tertainmentx-tended4760

I didn't know there was cross-play even back then. Good to know.

@@chrisnewbury3793 Mouse and keyboard? And console commands. I should have a look at Quake 3. Could make for a good video.

couldn't agree more taking the fog out was a bad choice it eliminates the whole creepy atmosphere to it.

Hello!
May you kindly give direction where we can get this "game specific widescreen patches" for Soul Reaver? Thank you in advance
@@RashataanVuul The game specific widescreen patch is already included using the flycast retroarch core.
this video deserves thousands likes!
It needs a thousand views first lol.
flycast version is crazy, playing that few yers now...one of my favorite games
It certainly is a great port. I noticed in some scenes that the pc version lacked effects, like rain.
@@n-tertainmentx-tended4760 yeah, and new textures are just mesmerizing
i was playing this with the dream cat emulator redream, and it worked great and looked way better than the ps1 version with duckstation
Yeah, the Dreamcast version was easily the best - even better than the pc version.
that Flycast seems to enhance particular areas of the game way better than the other two formats.

this looks legit better than the remaster that was just announced
No. You must be blind to think that.
@@lordnanni3177 the remaster looks soulless, i prefer the original art direction. art direction > graphics
100% duck station. looks amazing in 4k keeps the oringal tone of character without changing it to much like the hd emulater
i wish steam still had this game available DX im trying to find a good copy online for an emulator.
where is the love to remastered these game honestly lol
With the remasters, this is all irrelevant.
Perfection.
They managed to not mess it up.
The only bad thing about the console version is the soundtrack.
my complain about this game is it's easy to get lost, cuz everything in game look the same
I think it was due to the limited hardware. Eidos couldn't really use lavish textures, since the PS1 couldn't handle it.
Where to get the game? Can't on steam 😢
You cannot buy it for some reason. Try abandonware sites.
PS version is the best for nostalgia, Dreamcast version is the best looking
туман это атмосферно, его надо было оставить
I still laugh about it, it was so swift 🤣
I want a first-person mod
Interesting comment.
The flycast texture pack has been ported to pc version. Pc is ultimate version
