- At World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Mo., the plight of Murphy, a bald eagle who was reduced to incubating a rock, aroused social media sympathy, until an orphaned eaglet was brought to the sanctuary for care, and the two have hit it off. Jane Pauley reports.

Good job Murphy! This is the second male American bald eagle this year that had raised or is rasing one or more eaglets. The first one is "M15", and E21 and E22.
Yes, and M15 did an Amazing job as well. I am so happy to see these wild birds doing what wild birds do. 🎉
I'm very impressed with the resilience of M15. He's overcome tremendous odds and now those babies are about ready to head off on their own. I had feared a sad outcome.
Here's to M15 at the southwest Florida eagle's nest in North Ft. Meyers. He raised his two eaglets alone after his beautiful mate Harriet sadly went missing shortly their eaglets hatched. He overcame numerous owl attacks, adult eagle nest intruders & the daunting task of hunting for food to bring to his offspring several times a day. 🦅❤

Oh that is a beautiful story I just love our wildlife and it's stories like this that I enjoy the most to wachee loving bird try and raise a family is unbelievable the loud that they share with others unbelievable I just tear up and cry I want to hug and kiss that little eagle Daddy he is too great🎉

@@Andijt I have no idea, but I wager that’s the aim. Having Murphy do it is minimizing the human contact with the eaglet.
For everyone interested, the last I read the plan for release was aiming for Father's Day if eaglet 23-126 is ready

The eaglet is all grown up and was released into the wild!
Wish someone could help the Eaglets at Dale Hollow nest in TN they are tangled in fishing lines and the owner refuses intervention this is human devastation not Nature

call some animal rescue operation, the Americal Eagle Association, or here in Germany at least also fire departments rescue animals...
How sad no one is helping. Glad that in Florida we have C.R.O.W. that helps whenever possible.
I watched that cam just now and also asked for info. There is only 1 or 2 fish lines so won't impose serious danger to eaglets. Unnecessary human intervention only scares adults away and adults might abandon the nest.

Similarly, two male penguins tried to hatch a rock together. There’s a children’s book about it that’s banned. 🤷🏻♀️
Has anyone actually seen him feed the baby? I watch as much as I can, but I don't know if I've missed it. Or is the baby feeding itself?
And now Murphy thinks that if he sits on a rock long enough, it will hatch into a baby eagle.

If this eagle was a human many of us would be laughing at it for being so stupid!
Well not really, humans are programmed to be caretakers too, that’s why single men have dogs. Unconsciously they need someone to take care of, just like women have the maternal instinct. A rock maybe stupid to you but to Murphy it’s an egg that needs to be cared and protected. It’s all in our DNA.
Male eagles help raise babies. Nesting instinct kicks in. I know humans & other animals who are males, also have that nurturing instinct too! 🤗
And recently, he is now raising another chick.
Imagine the real dad turns up!?
