Karim Ziad (b. 1966) learned to mix traditional Algerian music with rock, funk and French chansons at wedding parties. At age 20 he moved from Algiers to Paris and expanded his repertoire with the fusion of Joe Zawinul and the raï of Cheb Mami.

I just discovered Ifrkya one week ago and i’m mesmerized. I was somewhat familiar with mali music but this brings it home to me on so many levels. Do you have any recomendations of this kind?

@@tasiociafancelli9912 Sure you can listen to some traditional "raw" stuff from Morocco such as Ahidous, Ahwach, Houara, or the Gnawa wich is the most important musical african art form in Morocco. Then in a more "modern" musical approach you can find artists such as Karim Ziad, Houssaine Kili, Majid Bekkas, Hamid El Kasri, Aziz Sahmaoui, Mokhtar Samba, Orchestre National De Barbes.. hope this helps ;)
