How to Clean a Scotsman Brilliance Nugget Ice Machine (SCN60)

- Our Brilliance® nugget ice is made from bits of compacted flakes of ice, making them softer than our cubes. Nugget ice made by a Scotsman ice machine will have a lower mineral content than the water it was made from. This is due to the method of making ice. Purer water will freeze first in the ice making molds. The reason for this is that anything dissolved in water lowers the water’s freezing temperature. This concentrates most of the impurities that make it through your home filtration system into the ice machine water reservoir.
Due to this, the water reservoir may form hard deposits known as scale. Eventually, built-up mineral scale can shorten machine life. To keep the machine operating properly, these impurities or minerals will have to be regularly dissolved by an acid cleaning, using Scotsman Ice Machine Scale Remover.

SUPER IMPORTANT- make sure you are using a diluted solution. The company sells a non-diluted and diluted solution. The non-diluted solution comes with a cap and no straw.
If you put in 16 ounces of the non-diluted solution, the machine will not make ice and overheat.
I just got on the phone with Support because this is exactly what I did and this is how I figured out my problem.
If this is what you did like me, the solution is is to turn the water supply back on pull the drain plug let it drain and then fill back up with water and put the plug back in. Repeat this step 10 times until the acid cleaner is flushed out.
From there, turn the ice machine back on and let the machine make ice again with water.
You’re gonna want to melt and clean out the basin after the first load of ice is created.
After that, you should be good to go. The technician told me that the machine is very clean and does not need to be cleaned again.🎉

I clean mine once a quarter since I live on well water with a whole house filtration system. Works like a charm!

What if it doesn't make any ice once we turn off the water and add the cleaner. We've already pressed both buttons for five seconds several times.

You can try to turn the machine off and putting some hot water down the auger

I purchased a 16 oz from Amazon for roughly $20. Item 19-0653-01
You say after the cleaning cycle is done and all the lights are off, with the water STILL ON, pull the drain plug and let the water drain. With the water still on it just runs the water through and never quits! The instructions have to be wrong and that pisses me off.
My 5 year-old Scotsman SCN060 motor is all corroded. Not sure it's even worth cleaning. Oh well, it was only $5,000.
