Can think of a camera angle that would look even better. When he looked into the camera then back at the monitor I was sure his massive nose was gonna knock the monitor over. But hey. You cant all be fit and as handsome as me. I do feel for you fatties and fuglies. Must be terrible.
The same applies to analogue gear! Using a different speaker cab with a different mic and mix placement is gonna sound a lot different then another configuration even if your amp settings are the same. That's why I think mic placement, mic choice, and cabinet choice is absolutely crucial. Micing your cabinet can make or break a guitar sound in a mix
As of now there's no need to buy a single amp sim. Just get the free Poulin, STl/Ignite/Mercuriall and TSE stuff, maybe some of Taranov's, donate a few bugs if possible, and invest in decent IRs (there are also really good free IR libraries btw). ;)
I'd say it's like 75% cabinet, 20% amp, 5% guitar pickups myself, but yeah, the guitar is really not as important as people seem to think, and, at least for metal, the amp is not super super important. Mic placement is also really important if you're doing things properly. For me, I use a combination of using a couple of very cheap SM57 copies on my cabinet but also making another dry track and use a software amp and sim as my mic placement technique is still a work in progress. I usually use something like the Emissary or one of the LePou Poulin amps (often the Marshall JCM type one) with the Revv V30 IR from Lancaster Audio and maybe some other free IR I got somewhere. Considering how little these software solutions cost (i.e. all of the ones I mentioned I got legitimately for free, even the Revv V30 as there was a giveaway for it a few months back). Considering I use a stratocaster in E standard tuning, I can get some surprisingly heavy tones like this.
I am blown away by this deal; what a great sounding amp sim! Bought the extra signature IR pack along with it for an extra 7 dollars which was also on discount. Thanks a lot for highlighting and reviewing this, Glenn. Absolute bargain. Have a good one!
There’s so many free sims that are really good, ignite emissary, blue cat audio, guitar rig, tone lib GFX.. and on and on I have at least 7 didn’t pay a dime, honestly you can make any sim sound pretty much like any other, irs, eq, distortion ect...good luck
I’ve been a fan of these guys for a couple of years. Of note, the plugins are not power hungry, great for people that don’t have a top of the line computer.
This is a GREAT point. Stuff like Neural Plini, Abasi, Omega are amazing - the quality is top notch. But there is a price to pay for that and its usually with your CPU. You start mixing in multiple guitar tracks and effects, drums, and it will start to skip and scratch. THU Overloud stuff I've found to be pretty easy on the CPU as well.
I own this one, still to be tested, but the price tag was even lower. Audio Assault is the reason I have entered VST amp SIM territory, because they have proven that you can have rookie prices for rookie players and still get some nice results.
I've been using Audio Assault plugins for almost a year now, I got their Sigma when it was free in the first weeks of release and it sounds killer! I wish I had an amp sim like this 15 years ago when I started recording!
That was a great video, Glenn. Just for kicks I decided to take Sigma for a test spin with the "Eagle Has Landed" mix tracks. I ran the DI rhythm guitars through the plugin into a separate bus and did an A/B comparison with the amped guitar tracks. My first impression is that for an amp sim (especially one this low-priced), it certainly held it's own.
I'm 26 and I have very bad astigmatism and I'm color blind too, so this small resize features in any type of software are really appreciated for us who can't see well, loving this amp sim It look very powerful, got totally convinced to buy it and its the perfect option for us begginers, thank you Glenn for showing us cool and affordable stuff, cheers from Chile!
This plugin was free when it was released. For a couple of weeks, I think. I got it for free. It was impressive. I liked it much more than the Emissary.
Definitely. Neural DSP is killing it right now especially. I've had Peavey 6505 for 10 years or more and after getting Archetype Nolly I've fell in love with plugins. It is pretty much the best recording tone I've gotten so far EVER.
I got it for free. I love audio assault because their stuff is awesome and cheap. Pair this amp with the free version of torpedo wall of sound and you have an amazing setup for home recording. I also got the grind machine III when it was on preview and it's an incredible plugin. You just have to plug your guitar and play without messing around with amp settings to much.
A major plus that other companies could learn from is their IR file loader. It is the best when you look at other plugin amp sims. The preset save slots is awesome and works flawlessly. I agree scroll wheel function would be icing on the cake Glenn. Great job Audio Assault! 👍
Dude, amp sims, in general, are just getting better and better. I do like the straight-forward approach to this interface. It's easy to get lost with some of the other sims. I'm sure once this company sees this video they'll make those upgrades! (I know if it were me, I would be on it right away!!)
Purchased this amp sim directly after watching the video. What really convinced me (as Glen said around 6:55 of the video), beside of the great sound, it's the convenience factor. I tried many (free) amp sims that have been proposed by Glenn and others and I always had to fiddle around in my Reaper setup with noise gates and IR plugins. I definitely will not discard all the amps/gates/IR plugins in my current FX chain, because they all (Emissary, various 5150 simulations, Lancaster, NadIR - just to name a few) sound f***ing great! But to have that all (or most of it) handy in one plugin is great. I even purchased the IR pack that have been offered to me with a >60% discount when purchasing the Sigma. Not that I would really need them - there a plenty of great free IR packs around. Yeah, I know - the Sigma was free a while ago... But $14.99 is still a fair and reasonable price for it. Thank you, sir, for this video. Greetings from germany.
Audio Assault is being smart. Offering this at a crazy low price is a smart move due to the fact that there are SO many great plugins, and they are getting competitive with pricing (which is good for us).
I got that one for free recently from their newsletter. It is my favorite at the moment. I also have lot's of more expensive ones. But the Sigma kicks all sorts of ass. I would gladly pay $14.99 for that.
I'm actually subbed to their newsletter (as I've got quite a few of their plugins, because I tend to just genuinely like them), and they were actually awesome enough to not just send a preview version out, but later even update it to the full release version... for the low price of zilch... just because. Basically, Audio Assault are pretty damn awesome.
This plugin was free when it was released. For a couple of weeks, I think. I got it for free. It was impressive. I liked it much more than the Emissary.
Personally I used the Emissary for a while, but when I got the Sigma and used the same IRs the tone just opened up and became less dead. That's just my experience though
@@brandimakesmusic Emissary is still cool, but the brainworx Deizel stuff and their ENGL Savage are far superior. And the Neural DSP sims are another level entirely. Thing is, I won't put a sim on a record. I literally just use them as scratch until re-amping.
Yeah really great people I seen your last review and grabbed a few plugins. They also sent this Sigma free which I have to say is still sitting there to install looking forward to that.
Lucky enough to have got this free when they ran a promotion. The amp cleans up better when you drop the input gain down as well, drop the mids too for a Fender-ish clean
Do you have a video about what impulse responses are and how they work, like the technology behind it? Would be cool a topic to cover, if you haven’t already.
Dude, I just bought this thing. Try the Nuno Bettencourt Royer R121. Oh muh, fawkin' gawd. Wow, Fricker! This was so well worth bringing to our attention! Thanks!
This plugin is no longer listed on the Audio Assault website. Perhaps it’s being rereleased as part of the upcoming “ReAmp Studio”? Everyone should visit the site and checkout their great prices on a number of cool and useful plugins. Grab the Seacow IRs for sure!
I got this when it was free. It's ok, a few years ago it would be considered amazing but the market is so crowded now it's hard for this to stand out. I think the free version of ML Sound Labs Roots is much better
The Roots plugin has too much of those odd "hight digital/plugin frequencies". I have both of them, and compared them with a lot of different IR and i found the Sigma way better to my ears.
Great deal - sold! Not a metal guy per se, but I do lots of guitar sessions for clients and these crunch tones will add some nice bedrock and lead textures.
I've got a mix and mastering studio, and am a keyboard player. Just bought this - sounds effin great, and needs to be in my arsenal. Bought extra impulese for 7 USD....crazy!
I have the Dominator and the Grind Machine II. Got them for 5 bucks each and for that money they're pretty good. Grind Machine sounds a little weird, i can't even explain what it is but Dominator is good. Couldn't replace Reaxis tho, but for some different flavors it absolutely works.
I feel you on a spiritual level with being able to see things. I'm legally blind in my left eye, so having the ability resize the plugin to my liking is a huge plus!
I've been watching MixBusTv since around 2014 and, yeah, the dude rocks. Also, the AKG C414 is what's used on the guitar cabs for Gojira's The Way Of All Flesh album.
Sounds great, even just through my phone speaker. A suggestion, can you make a compilation of all the demo jams. You always have these little short jams with these great players and it might be cool to have a compilation video. Just a thought. Peace.
Once I heard you start playing through it I straight went and got it cause that is a nasty plug-in for a reallllly good price. Audio Assault coming in strong
Sorry Glen but.. Am I only one who thinks that this vst amp sucks? Good IR kind of pulls it out higher but still, hearing and using a lot of vst in last few years, there's a lot of better freeware amp sims... Not saying LePou plugins, I find them very response to dynamic but Ignite beats them all in every aspect. Even though you said around 8:10 that it reacts like a real amp, the doesn't sound right. Demo in full mix doesn't sound bad but riff is very stale in dynamic context, there isn't much going on and I think a lot of amp sims would sound good attached to this riff. I think amp response would be more visible in more dynamic riffs with more different sounds than palm mutes and few notes here and there. Of course you are the one who played it so you know how it feels better than us but... still, yeah, Im torned
There are even free great plugins that requires attention. For example Vadim Taranov AMPS plugins. They are worth to check and there are quite good for free ones.
Ive jumped on the nonfree guitar amp sims train with buying plugins like the Neural DSP Nolly, and I love it. However, I have recently looked more into the Poulin Lecto and the Poulin Legion, and they kick ASS and are FREE! I'm not saying that they are any better than stuff from people like Neural DSP, but they are a seriously kickass set of plugins that are completely free. Pair them with a good set of IR's (possibly from Glenn... cough cough), throw a free TS808 plugin ahead of the amp in the FX chain, and BAM! You can get a seriously kickass, completely usable metal guitar tone for dirt cheap! 🤘🤘
They are good and have held up while but are definitely getting long in the tooth. You should check out the free ML Sound Labs Roots, I think you will really like it.
honestly as far as overdrives I've been using the ignite ts999 and the TSB-1. I have a preset for each and all I do is flick the fat switch on the 999 and adjust the boost on the tsb. takes all of about the time it takes to turn the tone knob on the guitar. when I'm not using a sim it's a maxon od808 and all i do is hit the tone knob. edit: lepou is a great example of crumbling under dynamic players. emmisarry still holds strong as the best in all categories, I'm also a fan of bias amp 2 (not bias fx it's just a little weak)even though it eats cpu like a priest eats alter boys.
I grabbed this plugin back when it was free and honestly I go to it more often than a lot of my much more expensive ones like neuralDSP and STL suites.
I just bought the plugin and the IRs, 22$ is like dirt cheap there is no reason to not buy it. They sound great and its a great addition in your mix even if its not your primary sound.
I wasn't too keen on some of the others by AA but the Sigma is exceptional for the price!! Definitely don't regret fetching a copy of this little beauty
You should check out their new ReAmp. It includes all of their previous amps, plus about 100 more. Just about puts this thing to shame. Even the stock IRs sound amazing and it's on preorder for only 20 bucks. (they call it grind machine III but they overhauled it and added a shit ton of stuff and emailed us a final beta called ReAmp)
Sounds awesome! Since you said they asked you to do "a couple of these", does that mean that you'll review the Bulldozer as well? I've been on the verge of buying that thing for about a week and a half now and I'd love to get your input on it! Stay safe, everyone.
Unrelated question but what would it take to get you doing some speaker shootouts? I've been trying to do my part for comparing various Celestions but all the videos out there only feature clean tones and low-gain classic rock. Then even when you find a high-gain video half the time the player can't even get a good tone. I'd personally love to see a good high-gain comparison of different Celestion speakers, especially between the Vintage 30 and the 70/80.
The stomp checkbox is great for not having to dick around to get the sound you want. After you dicked around with your hand on the mouse more than you did playing. And still never got rid of the fizz. I got this amp free and it's worth every penny but not a penny more.
Hi Glenn! Audio Assault also have their Grind Machine 2 on sale at the moment for $9.99 and it has SO MANY GREAT METAL TONES! i suggest checkng it out!
This thing is killer indeed, but I still love the Knuckle amp in Grind Machine II. I’m just waiting for grind machine III - I made a video about the sigma, awesome amp sim

your IR kicks ass . keep practicing, your chops are improving . I want to see you hold your own with Rudy .
There are even free great plugins that requires attention. For example Vadim Taranov AMPS plugins. They are worth to check and there are quite good for free ones.
Have you checked Fluffs amp sim yet?
Link is a 404 and the Sigma does not appear to be on their site anymore, just FYI.
yeah, have you found it anywhere else?
@@sm00se nope.
No, the first sim you reach for when it comes to clean is Audio Assault's Dirt Machine on the acoustic preset
Another great video!!! Good job man
Ive jumped on the nonfree guitar amp sims train with buying plugins like the Neural DSP Nolly, and I love it.
That´s definetly a nice VST. Looking forward to your RVXX Vid. ;-)
I have a bunch of the WGS IRs from Lancaster and I love the sound of the C414 with the Reaper speaker
Yeah thats one of my favorite too!
I grabbed this plugin back when it was free and honestly I go to it more often than a lot of my much more expensive ones like neuralDSP and STL suites.
You've made our day!
I just bought the plugin and the IRs, 22$ is like dirt cheap there is no reason to not buy it. They sound great and its a great addition in your mix even if its not your primary sound.
Speaking of plugins. The Mercuriall Euphoria is quite nice. Good vid dude. ✌️😎
I wasn't too keen on some of the others by AA but the Sigma is exceptional for the price!! Definitely don't regret fetching a copy of this little beauty
Thanks, we have new tech for amp sims! Although our main products are mixing tools, happy you liked it!
Really awesome amp sim sounds very impressive to my ears. Thank you so much Glenn for making this review. P.S.: MixBusTV Rules ;)
That clean has almost sounds like a lofi 90's grunge. Maybe it's my age, maybe it maybeline but I kinda like it!
Thank you very much we appreciate it!
I do have when you can't scroll through a menu. Thanks for bringing that up
We will fix this!
Most of Audio Assault's plugins are very good but the best, in my opinion, is Duality Bass Studio. You should definitely give that one a try.
Glen, I'm a nurse (and bass player), and I've noticed your veins are getting quite luscious with your weight loss!
I could definitely recommend Hellbeast. It's a Randall satan sim, with great IRs and more options (you got the variable OD pedal for example).
This thing is killer indeed, but I still love the Knuckle amp in Grind Machine II. I’m just waiting for grind machine III - I made a video about the sigma, awesome amp sim
