Cool setup guys! Really neat that you built it. Over here in Northern New England we call the "Gated Y" a rural hitch. Very common here when there are no hydrants.

Very good. You built this at your local department's shop, correct? In GA there is a fire department (Peach County) that I think still builds its own brush equipment. The county government does not fund them properly so they have to scrape and save. Close to Macon, GA there is a state forestry commission vehicle foundry that builds skid mounts, "fire knockers", and water tenders. If the department is a VFD they have many skill sets available.

Glad to hear GA does something like this too. We work out of the fire departments shop building. We are all volunteers and drop everything to respond to calls. It's a win, win for everyone. We build for other volunteer departments, where budgets are tight. Most get grants for the builds and the vehicles and decks are free through the State DNR program. The website is BWPtrucks.com

It's a big deal on the Eastside of the state. Just about every department has on, we have 2.

Did you guys consider adding reel lines like the ones on the smaller brush truck to your tactical tender? the save a lot of water. Also in wouls be nice to have a self protection sprinklers on the tubes around the cabin. The australians have a nice protection system for their forest fire trucks.

I was on a tight budget. Good idea, I hope that the side sprays, putting the front spray pointing up and fog would help too.

Our fire protection on our RFS trucks are a spray bar that wraps around the cab, wheel sprays and 2 over head sprays. Alot of plumbing and would be very expensive.. I'm sure you could simplify it like I did with my FFFV (Farm Fire Fighting Vehicle) to just a single 360 degree spray head in the centre of the truck..? I have a stand alone 1 inch outlet on the pump specifically for (what I call) the Halo.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't read your answer properly, I think your setup should work great! Any chance of doing a video of showing its side sprays? The cannon on the front in fog mode would be fantastic for pushing through fire overrun roads..

Voluntary response or do you get paid? Asking along lines of how you are affording the new truck?
I know you probably aware of this but when you get to a site as a tanker, fill appliances first, especially if they are already have hoses out and in operation.

I received a grant from Washington State DNR to build the Brush Truck and Tender. We are a volunteer fire department. The Tender did go out on two DNR fires and paid the tender operator and the fire district for the use of the tender.
