      Altho muay thai seems more brutal i believe brain damage is wayyyy more common in boxing so take that as you will. Also muay thai is a more "complete" martial art while boxings scope is limited to punches only. Not that i dont love boxing its a whole science in itself and the two martial arts complement each other very very well imho

    Mushti-Yuddha( or Fist Combat, more closer to boxing and elbowing) & Malla-Yuddha(or Hand Combat where free hand was given whole of body was used and included aspects of wrestling too) from India had a huge influence on the S.E. Asian martial Arts, be it Lethwei or Muay Thai or others. Maybe the influence travelled along with the cultural & spiritual exchanges as well as trading through the marine spice routes as well as the land routes.

      Everything is recorded in The Great War.
      Another fact:
      Bodhidharma actually brought the technique to make the body active but of stone while fighting (a different practice from the Samadhi yogi technique where you are stationary in clear mind meditation) to Shaolin Monastery.
      Sometime after Bodhidharma passed, the scroll with the instructions vanished from the Shaolin and no1 has seen it since.

    There is a theory thay Muay Thai could have been influenced from the ancestors of Alexander the Greats soldiers. They brought their Greek Wrestling sport to Asia and India. This was when Thailand would have been a Hindu country with strong influences from India.
    The sport from the greeks would have evolved and was mainly practiced in the royal courts. But eventually the morphing could form in to Muay Thai. The Ancient Greeks in Bactria were on the silk road. Their ideas would fuse witj Asian ideas and would spread through the whole of Asia.
    The first depiction of The Buddha was done in marble stone and done by a Greek Kingdom in Asia. This depiction of the buddha spread a long the silk road and through India, Thailand. It's therefore not so far fetched that just as religion can be influenced by a Greek Kingdom. So could the martial arts.
    You should check out the ancient Greek martial arts. There are a lot of similarities with Muay Thai.

      That is one of the most bizarre theories I have ever read and the timeline is off. The true origin of the Tai, they came from the southern part of China before migrating to Southeast Asia in 10th century and they are close relative to Zhuang group in Guangxi, China which are consider the largest Tai-Kadai group and recognized by the Chinese government. The Tai and Zhuang have their own writing system which is called "Sawndip". Those Tai that migrated into the Mon-Khmer territory are known to be called "Southwestern" Tai due to their split migration with "Central Tai". Once the Southwestern Tai settled in the Mon and Khmer Kingdom territory they had to assimilated to the Mon and Khmer culture. So over time they abandon their culture for a new one to get adjusted.

      The true origin of the Tai, they came from the southern part of China before migrating to Southeast Asia in 10th century and they are close relative to Zhuang group in Guangxi, China which are consider the largest Tai-Kadai group and recognized by the Chinese government. The Tai and Zhuang have their own writing system which is called "Sawndip" and their religion is animist which is called " Shigongism".

    • @Katcom111
      @Katcom111 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Inw TH-cam Both the Sukhotai and ayutthaya was rule under the Khmer and your history is way off. The reason why the Tai migrated is due to the fact that the Han chinese immigrants pushed them deeper in Southern china and border around northern Vietnam because of the Tang war that happened. All the other Tai groups started making kingdoms in northern Vietnam and mostly in Yunan and you got a Tai group called Tai Yuan that settled in Chiang Saen but when the 2nd wave of Tai migration hit, those central Tai that lived south of Guangxi, China split and became Southwestern Tai and moved further to the Mon and Khmer territory where they started assimilating to the Mon and Khmer culture. You know the Tai had an original culture before they started assimilating to the Mon-khmer hindu influence. The Tai had their own writing system which is called "Sawndip" and their religion was Animist, which is called "Shigongism". There relative are Zhuang which is a large Tai-Kadai group living in Guangxi, China. The way they dress is similar to the Mien or Hmong group.

    In short, Indian Tamil brought Kalaripayattu, an Indian martial art to Southeast Asia. Then it came roughly called as "Muay". The earliest evidence was found in Dvaravait kingdom which was founded in 6th, which was located in today Thailand. The whole region of Southeast Asia has "Muay", but its not until recently that Thailand modernized it, put rules and scoring system in Muay to make it Muay thai, a sport version of Muay. There are many kicking sport versions from other Southeast Asian countries today but they all came from Muay thai ie using Muay thai rules, gears, score systems, etc. Though while the origin of Muay tha is Kalaripayattu, I would say that there is only 2% of Kalaripayattu in today Muay Thai. Muay thai has come a long way.
    Its just hilarious that Muay thai posed to be #1 best striking style proven in MMA, and suddenly everyone around the world tries to claim Muay Thai as theirs. The only rightful people who can have some partial credits is Indian people. This is why education is important lol

    A lot of people don’t know this but Muay Thai was heavily influenced by jujutsu that was brought here by ronins. A lot of the Thai sweeps did not exist in lethwei or bokator as they would’ve used Kushti or the traditional form malla yuddha from india. When ayuthaya established itself as independant from Myanmar many ronins travel to thailand as they were shunned for refusing seppuku or failed to complete their mission. They founf themselves fighting under the king of ayuthaya and one of them became very high ranking Yamada Nagamasa. Hiza guruma, uki goshi, deshi barai etc
