    I will point out that not every pokemon is the same size in this game, so while Lucario is listed as 3'11'' in the pokedex, the ones you catch will vary smaller and larger, on the small scale is shouldn't affect it much, but the different in sizes will become larger the more multiples of lucario you are counting.

      Ooh thank you for pointing that out! Good thing I used the avg width from a couple different pokémon then, that could hopefully null out any mistakes in that department :)

      @@Sunowaddle You probably should have measured each pokemon alone as a sample to make sure it’s close enough to the scale in the Pokedex. Unless you did that

    Looking at Wikipedia, a country of the closest size to Paldea is Tuvalu at about 26 km² or 10 mi², so that's pretty cool to know

    I really hope you liked the video! Spent a lot of time on it, but like I said in the video, it's very hard to get the number 100% right with this method, so it's only a rough estimate, and a way you could easily try it for yourself :) The link to the original videoes of the glitches I used in the video is also in the desciption if anyone is interested.

    doing the math, it is 24,000 times smaller than the actual iberian peninsula.
    the square root of 24,000 is almost 155.
    If we assume that in the Lore, Paldea is the same size as the Iberian Peninsula, every 100 meters you travel, it would be the equivalent of 15.5 km.

    Great vid! Now I’m wondering if it’s possible to measure Mario Odyssey’s map. You don’t technically explore the entire area in Odysseys’ worlds but it would be cool to see how big it is with just the playable areas!
    (Actually some of the 2d Marios do have an over world map so maybe you could try those!)

    • @Sunowaddle
      @Sunowaddle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yes I'm pretty sure someone has already done it actually, since in Luigi's Ballon World distance is measured in "m", (so probably meters), I think the speedrunning community calculated sizes of the worlds based on that :)

    • @Sunowaddle
      @Sunowaddle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah haha! Video game map sizes are often way smaller then you'd imagine due to budget and not for the world to become boring and tedious to explore, so their "real world" equivalent would probably be way bigger :)

    Dang. I think TH-cam autodeleted my previous comment because I had a link to a reddit post in it. I'll give it another shot. I'd been periodically Googling the question of Paldea's size every week or two, but was never satisfied with the lax methodology of the people who tackled this question before you. I was about to just take it upon myself to run the calculation with a very similar process to you until I stumbled across the video. Excellent approach measuring the map, and thank you for saving me some time. As mentioned in this comment section though, the scale of pokemon obviously varies, which makes their listed size in the dex not much more than a useful approximation. However, in my multiplayer experience, I've realized that all rideable Koraidons are the exact same size. All rideable Miraidons are also the same size. That's to say, if the height listed in the Pokedex for the two legendaries applies to the rideable ones, using them as a ruler might be the best way to get a precise measurement.

    • @Sunowaddle
      @Sunowaddle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I forgot about the variability of the pokémons height when making this video, but I did compare the pokémon to the mc, and every approximate of their height turned out pretty similar, which would mean the pokémons height are likely very consistant with the pokedex entry in my case, which I guess was a stroke of good luck haha. Glad you found the video helpful though! :)

    My biggest complaint about scarlet and violet is the map. It’s either way to zoomed in or way to zoomed out, you can only place one marker and the map randomly rotates which was very disorientating! Who designed this?

    I can't comment on how good pokemon s/v actually are since I haven't bought them (and never will because no way in heck am I buying something that unpolished and buggy) but the games have at least been entertaining to watch other people suffe- er, I mean play through.

    Did you skip over how you measured the pokearena? Cause i still don't get it. You cant get lucario to lie down..
    I feel like i'm missing something.
    Depending on how accurate your method is, this will greatly change the result..

    • @Sunowaddle
      @Sunowaddle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I probably should have elaborated a bit more on that part, but I wanted the pacing to be a little quick. I started by standing in the middle of the arena where the pokeball is with a straight camera view, and divided the pokeball marks pixel length by Lucarios pixel height times Lucarios actually height, which would give the real size of the Pokeball marking. Then I just did the same with the Pokeball and the full width of the arena from a top down view :)
