I think their strength is, as was said, they have dialed in the analytics to the point they can target any audience they want. But in the end the key is getting and holding an audience's attention. Gimmicks will do it short term, but a good story is key no matter what kind of show it is. The highest concept in the world isn't gonna bring in viewers if they all watch the show and ask themselves "what did I just watch?" Also (for what it's worth) the trend toward "mirroring an ideal world" or packaging a political or social agenda inside your show is at a fatigue point. People are TIRED of it. Yeah it's nice to see someone like you in a show, but I don't need to see 100 characters with my same lifestyle, or disability, or ethnicity. The real world isn't like that and audiences are getting tired of it. Thanks for another great video.
Weiting a Netflix show is easy: make sure to stupidly add cliffhangers to every season you get, which will inevitably only be one or two, so that way nothing gets resolved and fans are left unhappy. I would have thought that by now anyone who writes tv shows period, not just ones who write for Netflix would have been smart enough to stop doing cliffhangers, but I've obviously overestimated the intelligence of tv show writers.
How to write a netflix show: smash your hands onto the keyboard a bunch of times, print, send it in. That's how most of their shows seem to be written.
Interesting talk, on series. I am looking forward to someday finding out a bit about what used to be called made-for-TV movies, or movie of the week. And by that I don't mean the "based on a true story" of one network and Christmas romances of the other, rather, those made for streaming services. Thanx.
The Witcher of Netflix. Buy a franchise beloved by tens of millions of book readers, fantasy fans and gamers. Hire activists instead of writers, bury the source material asap, refuse to listen to the orginal writer, inject modern day sensibilitis held by 14 year old LA High School students, put ego above storytelling, change every character (make them diverse and woke !), change every single country and race (make them diverse and woke !) change the tale completely (make it diverse and woke !), refuse to listen to the only one left in the production (Henry Cavill) who actually cares about the lore, read the books, played the games and Voilà; the Netflix-soup for the non-existent modern audience is ready.
For every person who has ever heard of much less read something like ‘ The Witcher’ there are multiples who are unfamiliar with the story and many more who don’t give a fuck about what it was when it was something else. And why should they? The source material is the source material when it’s adapted then it’s its own story. Mostly because it has to be. And also most adaptations have to fit the format of the new medium, whatever that might be.
How to write a Netflix TV Show. 1. Recycle scrapped pieces of pre-written, but never produced scripts 2. Add diversity even at the cost of traditional/objective quality of actors and coherence 3. Remove all qualities of script that could actually be canceled or produce a soulful outcome (e.g remove all the good anime vibes) 4. Produce lowest quality bullshit imaginable to pass off as substance (eg WEDNESDAY ADAMS dance viral marketing blitz for a show that is unwatchable (worse than Kimmy Shmit or Franz and Grace or w/e tf these dreadful sitcoms are called) 5. Step 1: Find something with a large audience. Step 2: Burn the source material. Step 3: Ensure that every character does not look as they are described swapping them for whatever the world is supposed to look like today. Step 4: Do everything except the source material (shouldn't be a problem if you followed step 2). Step 5: Success! For documentaries Step 1: Race swap the historical figure presented. Step 2: Make up whatever bullshit you must to fit the agenda. Step 3: Pay no attention to actual archeological or historical records or people whatsoever. Step 4: Call the haters "racisists". Pretty much how to write and make s Netflix show in a nutshell. I have too much integrity to even want to do anything like this nonsense but desperate people do strange things.
Just write some woke shit, add as much diverse cast as possible. Don't forget about lgbt representation. Strong females in a mixed race relationship. Write something about patriarchy. Add weak white male characters etc. and then wait until your movie get cancelled and removed from Netflix.
You think it had NOTHING to do with nostalgia? Millions of women played with Barbie dolls as kids...how could they not have a feeling of nostalgia with the movie? Or, at least, it was a part of their decision to buy a ticket. 😊
EXCUSE ME... Thousands of women (my age) back in the 60s remember when Barbie first came out... then Thousands more through the years have loved Barbie when they were young... You have NO idea what you're talking about... How old are you?

How to write a Netflix TV Show. Step 1: Find established IP. Step 2: Ignore everything anybody ever liked about that IP. Step 3: Enjoy zero audience.
Step 0: establish your own IP - December eighth two thousand and twenty three.
Step 4: change some main characters from white to black, but never any other ethnicity Step 5: call the fans racist nazis if they complain
Sounds like the witcher xD
EXACTLY! F*CK NETFLIX! I used to like them ten years ago when I started my channel.
What Netflix show would you love to be a writer on?
Stranger Things without a doubt. Hands down the best show out there.
the next new show watching all of your content is making me want to turn a hobby and past time to job and something i love to do.
On my block was really good I’d love to help write season 2 of the spin off
Black mirror!
Sandman

Out of curiosity, what would you recommend instead?
If cliff hangers are bad, what do you prefer instead??
Or do you mean they have too many CFs?
There seems to be a toooootally different definition of "edgy" in Hollywood than the one I am accustomed to using.
This is true 😂

"Competition." Is just all the big production companies outbidding each other on wild guesses.

1. Make like three good series. 2. Trade off of that entirely. Also why does he believe not making a show edgy counts as 'dumbing it down'?

They made more than one season and if they were able to keep the lead they probably would’ve continued. So not a great example.
