I have the SM7B and love this mic. Even in rooms that are not acoustically ideal it does an excellent job. The SD1 sounds a little brighter and a little more open, but the SM7B sounds nice and warm and with some Pultec eq boost at 8khz the SM7B can also shine. Both excellent mics. I think the sd1 I will also buy. Many bedroom producers buy expensive Neumann microphone when I then mix these tracks I often have a lot of room on the vocal tracks. I never have these problems with my SM7B. And thanks for this great video, good job.
SD-1 is good, but this video shows that there's no doubt regarding the SM7B being considered as an "industry standard". What a great mic! I hope to buy one someday and check it out for myself.
I feel like the sm7b can muddy the articulation on the lower male vocal notes. I do like the warmth of the sm7b in parts as well. Maybe they’d be best blended. 👍🏻
The SM7B is richer and smoother sounding. The SD-1's high frequency response sounds more open, but also a bit exaggerated. The SM7B sounds a bit more natural.
Thanks a lot!!! Now it just makes me want to buy both🤣🤣🤣 I kid. I kid. Great video, my friend. Truly. But I do kind of want both. I could justify buying both used, perhaps. But not sure I've ever seen an SD-1 used🤔 Again, thanks for the breakdown. Cheers. Willow -
I already have the SM7B. If it was $150 i'd buy one and sell my SM7B but they are so close to what I could sell the SM7B for ($300-ish) that I can't justify selling the Shure for a UA. If you dont have an SM7B get an SD-1. If you have an SM7B keep it and buy an SD-1 if you need a 2nd mic.
Do you use fetheads/mic lifter or any preamp to boost the sd-1 thinking of buying those..i have a Zoom L8 Livetrak Mixer/Interface. what do you prefer with these 2?i mean the sm7b or sd-1?

Love the clarity on SD1 but I hope it’s not missing out on the lows. I have the SM7B & didn’t like it much as the highs were lacking.
The video production and testing for this video is amazing....subscribed 👌🏾⚡️
I think the Universal Audio SD-1 sounds a little brighter and is better for voices and guitars.

Are you using a cloud lifter on the SD1?
@@DrewEvermore I’ve got 4 of these now my friend. No cloud lifter, use them for podcast recordings and the input level with no cloud lifter is fine 👍🏼

imo the SD-1 is just nicer to listen to especially unprocessed like in this video
Sd1 sounds processed... sm7b just sounds warm and clean and crystal clear!
The sibilance on the on the sd1 will need a lot of post
I really love SD1
SM7b 👑
Give or take on male, on female SM7B wins
