@@footyfan101ful Yes she did. I find the critics choice Awards interesting, which I call them the second Golden Globes in disguise. Given, every one of the top critics groups save one, being the the National Board of review,(Gaga), has picked Colman, (L.A., N.Y., NSOFC), strangely, we get this"tie" with Gaga and Close? Yeah, right. Create some drama to try and boost Oscar ceremony ratings. Vote performance and not manufactured trends. Colman for the Oscar win.

she's one of my favorite actresses. I just loved her journey into her family.
I found out from finding some newspaper articles that my grandfather was going to marry this lady and she in turn became an actress but as far as I know they didn't get married. She went to NY to the stage. It was in 1902 or 1903 and he married my grandmother in 1905.

I also descend from the Colmans in Norfolk. They go waaaaay back, far as I can tell, so while you may be related, a common ancestor might be several hundred years ago. I found your grandmother on FamilySearch but no common relative between your Colmans and mine as of yet. Your line on that site ends in 1718 so it must have been before then, or through someone not yet added to their system.

The same thing happened to my grandmother. A walk with a gentleman Preacher giving her a polite accompaniment in the daylight caused a total local stir. The Conch telegraph went out and before my grandmother got home, her husband was accusing her of infidelity. She would not hear of that rubbish and divorced him. He was a serial philanderer so he must have seen himself in the mirror and blamed her. Thank you to her, she was born in 1901.

English language is seriously impaired by not having separate vocabulary for paternal and maternal grandfathers, grandmother, , and aunts, uncles , etc, from either paternal or maternal lineages, and their spouses.
This is not the case with Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi or other Indian subcontinental languages which are more exact in defining blood relationships and those by marriage to these blood relations.

I'm sure the man couldn't even afford to buy her a dress let alone support her financially back then and she gave up a man that of course she was a spinster stuck in India and she comes back to London and the world is at her feet what a wonderful opportunity for her unfortunately born in the wrong time.
