      I never even thought about the win or lose aspect. However I gotta ride with Guru on this. Marlo ain't out the game so Math dead wrong about this. From a real Baltimore standpoint they have been crooks at City Hall back to be fore Schafer so once again Guru is right Marlo just playing a new game now. The chess vs life analogy is actually perfect to explain how Slim Charles is the winner. He didn't play chess he worked life.

    It is said that chess is the game of life because every decision you make can impact the rest of your game. It teaches you that one bad move can ruin your entire game or make it hard to recover so you must make the right move from the start. It also teaches not to let your emotions guide your actions, and to make sacrifices.

    I get what Guru is saying when it comes to The Wire. Marlo didn’t beat Avon. Avon just loss because his right hand snitched on him. And he didn’t lose to Marlo because Marlo still had to go thru Avon in order to get the green light to meet up with the Russian that led him to the Greek connect. And he had to break Avon’s sister Breonna off some paper first before he could do that. And thru all of this, Avon has what Marlo wants from the streets all the way to prison…. And that’s respect. Marlo cared about his name more than anything else in life. And Slim was definitely the winner. He was the last man standing out of everybody. Even when Marlo made it out, he still felt like he loss. That final scene with Marlo says everything. Those kids didn’t even know who Marlo was when he approached them

    • @afropick93
      @afropick93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear you, but here's my thing: Marlo's name only became worthless on the street, which is okay considering he told Slim & them "I'm done with this gangsta shit." He was entering a whole new avenue where he can start from scratch and build his name up. Not like Stringer who still had each foot in both avenues and get dragged down. Yeah Marlo might miss the power he had, but powerful individuals can always adapt and get it back in different surroundings. Slim was only the winner for that segment of getting the connect. To repeat what Math said, "Ain't no winners in the game". Who's to say he wouldn't have gotten clipped by an unexpected soldier, or unexpectedly betrayed by one of his guys from an arm's reach, or met with a foreign force that takes over like the Barksdales with Marlo? King of the hill is always getting plotted on, which in the grand scheme of things doesn't seem much like winning.

Chess teaches you how to achieve goals . Chess teaches you to identify assets to achieve your goals ( pieces that are in position to help you ) and identify obstacles to that goal ( opposing players pieces that threaten you and /or protect there king . ) it don’t matter if you promoted a pawn to queen of your king gets matted . It doesn’t matter if you lose your queen if you get mate . Strategy is a huge part of a successful life . Good lesson Guru

    Slim Charles did win "the game"....from soldier to King....he solidified his spot once he killed Cheese. He had respect from both gangs & he's IN THE STREETS, not locked up like Avon. Marlo has his freedom but he CLEARLY had to let go of the hold he had of the streets, plus his shooters are gone. Snoop & Chris were the REAL reason Marlo could move like that. Mike murdered Snoop & Chris doing LIFE with Wee-Bey...the only survivor was Slim Charles & he knew the dirt that was done on all sides cuz his loyalty put him in position to watch how it all went down. If there can be a "winner", it can ONLY be Slim Charles. Mike became the new Omar, Dookie became the new Bubbles....The Wire was about natural selection & survival of the fittest. Yes Slim Charles won. He survived 3 organization failures. Avon, Joe, and Marlo tried to promote him but Slim told him "Im not cut out to be no CEO." and and that was short lived. Slim ended up with the plug. Marlo did not win at the end of the wire. Marlo achieved Stringer Bell's dream but Marlo's only dream was to have the crown. It's like Avon told Stringer "I bleed red. You bleed green." Marlo is just a more vicious version of Avon. Marlo sold the connect to Slim and Rick. Beat his case due to McNulty illegal wire tap but this is how Marlo really lost. When Marlo leaves the rich people event that Levy the lawyer brought him to and he goes back to the trenches. Right before Marlo steps to young wolves on the block you hear them talking about Omar. Omar name is still ringing in the streets even after death. Marlo steps to the young'ns and ask them "Do you know who I am?" The young'ns say no and pull out a gun and one of em cuts Marlo and run. They did not even know who Marlo was after all the work he put in and thats why he lost. They knew Omar. They knew Avon. And they all from the same side of town. Marlo only cared about his reputation. Marlo was looking at life no parole possibly the death penalty and the only thing he cared about was that Omar was talking shit about him in the streets while in a holding cell. That's why he ordered Monk, Cheese, and Chris to let the hood know that he aint afraid of nobody. His rep was ruined at the worst moment cause he was jammed and he couldn't do anything about it. Marlo was back at square one where nobody knew his name and had to work his way back up. That's why that "Name is my name" scene is so heavy. Marlo grew up likely like Chris in group homes with nothing. His name is all he had and he lost it in the end.

      THIS RIGHT HERE is the most accurate take on that Wire angle I've seen on this thread. Marlo beat that case, had millions 'cause he sold the connect and STILL went back to the game. "Marlo was just a more vicious version of Avon..." 🎯🎯🎯🎯

      @KGdakid47 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@genius179 it’s not my comment but I agree guru is wrong about chess also. The pieces aren’t people that you direct it’s all you and the recourses you have at your disposal to level up. Of course people don’t have the same resources but we all have the ability to reach the same heights “equality of opportunity” jay-z started broke and used his “strategy” to become a billionaire while trust fund babies never accomplished anything. Also just cause you can see what pieces are moving doesn’t mean you can’t fall into the trap they are laying for you kinda like Covid lock downs but people that weren’t in corporate America didn’t have to comply with taking vaccines etc because they set themselves several moves ago
