I want to say a lot of respect for ESSO letting his emotions show and crying for his lost loved ones. Also, Guru just saying "I feel for you". That was some beautiful manhood on display!
Real man shit #Respect
Yup
Facts it should be normalized fr, men out here on their own emotionally due to society's pressure on men to be these emotionless people.
That nigga is an actor....u can tell this dude want to be popular so bad
Facts
Guru is really a highly intelligent gentleman, but also street smart. There’s a reason he is where he is.
And a reason for his nickname
I gotta give to Guru, he changed my opinion on who "won" at the end of the wire. His chess analogy was spot on as well. Another good clip from this team. Best hip hop discussion podcast imo
FACTZ!!!
I never even thought about the win or lose aspect. However I gotta ride with Guru on this. Marlo ain't out the game so Math dead wrong about this. From a real Baltimore standpoint they have been crooks at City Hall back to be fore Schafer so once again Guru is right Marlo just playing a new game now. The chess vs life analogy is actually perfect to explain how Slim Charles is the winner. He didn't play chess he worked life.
Nobody won in the wire besides those that got out
The only person that won on the Wire was Wee-Bay son. Namond truly got a second chance at life outside of the hood. He's the only winner
@@IncognitoSprax Exactly. If Slim and Marlo still in the game, then neither won. Poot won.
Guru is probably my favorite guess by far, tells great stories, and clear
Bruh I’m telling you this show should not be watered down! Keep it like this!!
Prayers to the OG who lost 23 people damn man 🙏🏾
100%
Yeah you can see esso pain
That’s a great blow. My prayers to him and family.
"Ain't No Winners In The Game" That Was A Strong Message
You could tell Esso goin thru it, he was wiping away tears. Prayers up for you my G! 🙏🏾
Slim Charles: Good with every crew, from LT. to Capt. to General. Off'd Cheese in memory of Joe. Good heart. Words of wisdom. Never went down and never snitched. Definitely the winner 🏆
You can argue that Poot won. He got a regular job and not dead or in jail too..
And Bubbles won
Respect Guru for understanding the The Wire. Most ppl just watch it....there's a difference.
Facts
It is said that chess is the game of life because every decision you make can impact the rest of your game. It teaches you that one bad move can ruin your entire game or make it hard to recover so you must make the right move from the start. It also teaches not to let your emotions guide your actions, and to make sacrifices.
🎯🎯🎯
That's called strategy.
Context is EVERYTHING. You expressed the importance of the proverb (Chess is Life) beautifully
Also, a perceived “bad move” could actually be a starter or decoy for a much greater move down the line and ultimate victory. 🐣
yeah, but if you play any game right you supposed to be setting up moves to win ( as in life )
and i mean any game !
Seeing ESSO tear up hurt my heart. 🙏🏾 up homie
The chess analogy was a master class in differentiating the intricate details that separate the likeness of life and chess. Bravo! brotha Guru 👏🏽
well said
The Chessboard is the Chessboard
Interlude worthy
He had me like that meme that dude from the wire with the “ooo I got it” face lol
It completely overlooks and degrades the value of chess. It actually shows a lack of understanding.
Absolutely. It’s a game focused on implementing strategy. That’s not what you do every moment of your life, but it is a skill that you need accessible at all times. Strategy
Keep your head up Esso 🙏🏾 praying for who you praying for recovery. l feel you man. We lost a lot of people and I’m blessed to be here and I’m glad we all here! R.I.P. TO THE ONES WE LOST!
The Wire is arguably the best tv series of all-time! 💯
FACTS!!! 💯
Yea its one of the Realest shows... sopranos n GOT was good too but the wire is the realest 💪🏽
ALL FACTS!
@the United Drills of America it took me 7 yrs after the show was over to watch. I was like it no way they know what's really going here in bmore. When I watch it I was like Wow, they were 85% accurate. Just more violent then what they said.
Hands down
Best thing about this segment was when Math looked closed it by looking in to the camera and saying "In That Game There Are No Winners." I gained alot of respect for him for that.
Amazing segment in this interview. The dude in the blue shirt is always lost in every interview. Guru’s dropping gems and he drops “this is why I like checkers” lmao.
I mean if y’all want the real “The Wire” stories…. I’m always available for a sit down lol huge fan of the show.
Played the hell out of the Namond role 💪🏾💯
You still got them cool throwback jerseys, you wore on the show?
Bro we’d love to see you on more films
Need you on there next
your role was amazing the emotions... your mom was a monster tho 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Guru is an out the box thinker I respect it. What I can say about Chess is that you can apply the strategies that you learn from the game to life.
I agree with you but guru made everyone realized tho that real is Life is soo complex that a simple chess analogue is not enough to sum up
Life
@@kingkemet2527 of course life is more complex than a game. but what the game can teach you most importantly is to be forward thinking, visualize your plan and adjust accordingly. Definitely made a good point that it is not life, but it is a game that would help you be more success in life if seen from the right perspective.
@@growthstacks8001 yeah chess if applied right can help someone build a good foundation of strategy in they life
@@growthstacks8001 exactly the point of thinking at least 3 moves ahead
That's why ninjas stay losing you can apply anything to life
"When you play chess, everyone start off with the same pieces...
That don't happen in real life"
🤯 That line HIT
That’s the beauty in it tho right. We all know we start from different pieces/places. That’s fact. When we play chess it gives us a opportunity to play with we learned on fair grounds.
Or 64 squares to make moves on
It hit for somebody that don't play chess
@chaingangbiscuit right because even with the same pieces it's all about the correct moves.
Another great conversation within the conversation. I thought Marlo was the one that came out on top also until Guru explained how Marlo was still in the game because his mentality didn't change . Also good to hear how he explained the difference between the game of chess and life. I agree 100%
Esso crying yo my boy hurting on this convo
The fact that he showed Big G (slim) love is 🔥….Unfortunately his son was killed on Saturday. Prayers up🙏🏾
People say this every episode but I truly think this is the best episode y’all ever done.
I get what Guru is saying when it comes to The Wire. Marlo didn’t beat Avon. Avon just loss because his right hand snitched on him. And he didn’t lose to Marlo because Marlo still had to go thru Avon in order to get the green light to meet up with the Russian that led him to the Greek connect. And he had to break Avon’s sister Breonna off some paper first before he could do that. And thru all of this, Avon has what Marlo wants from the streets all the way to prison…. And that’s respect. Marlo cared about his name more than anything else in life. And Slim was definitely the winner. He was the last man standing out of everybody. Even when Marlo made it out, he still felt like he loss. That final scene with Marlo says everything. Those kids didn’t even know who Marlo was when he approached them
I hear you, but here's my thing: Marlo's name only became worthless on the street, which is okay considering he told Slim & them "I'm done with this gangsta shit." He was entering a whole new avenue where he can start from scratch and build his name up. Not like Stringer who still had each foot in both avenues and get dragged down. Yeah Marlo might miss the power he had, but powerful individuals can always adapt and get it back in different surroundings. Slim was only the winner for that segment of getting the connect. To repeat what Math said, "Ain't no winners in the game". Who's to say he wouldn't have gotten clipped by an unexpected soldier, or unexpectedly betrayed by one of his guys from an arm's reach, or met with a foreign force that takes over like the Barksdales with Marlo? King of the hill is always getting plotted on, which in the grand scheme of things doesn't seem much like winning.
MAN I BEEN WAITING FOR THE FULL EPISODE SINCE THE FIRST CLIP DROPPED
WHEN WE GETTING THAT?
This pod has my eyes and ears now... The quality of these conversations is amazing!
I enjoyed this convo. Especially being a huge fan of the Wire
This the only podcast where I feel like it’s GROWN MEN TALKING …..#salute to everybody I appreciate this shit 💯💯
GURU is one of my favorite guest you've had, im a huge chess fan, so this conversation really resonated with me , but I beg to differ@ 3:37 when Guru said "You never see a pawn can't take a king", but a pawn CAN checkmate a king, and that's synonymous with taking a king, as a chess player, I couldn't let that ride lol, however I love everything else Guru said in reference to Chess not being a Life game.
It been an entire week already Math can we get the whole interview already. You holding onto this one 😂
Just when I thought this podcast couldn't get any better... Wow!
These interviews are on point. 💯
Guru gotta be best guest on the podcast
So much so I would love it if he was a permanent fixture. He has way too much going on of course, but I could take in his knowledge and wisdom all day every day.
Nah. It's up there. Clark Kent

Fire conversation in this clip homie
I agree with him about the wire. Marlo didn’t win because that wasn’t his goal. Nobody knows who Marlo is. Every one still knows who the barksdales were.
And Omar
@@user-ly2sj2rs8e that whole ending went over ur head then
Fun Fact: They're Not Even Greek!
@@user-ly2sj2rs8e that’s not true at all. Everyone knew who Chris and Snoop was. They heard of Marlo but there was no face on him. Hence the reason why those kids in the final scene didn’t have a clue who he was when he approached them and asked “do you know who I am?”. They had no idea
@@TheRealLeonardWashington thank you . They show was deeper than they think
Big G, Anwan Glover, living D.C legend. We love you and continue to pray for you and your family. You make us proud. 💯🙏🏾
I LOVE how they broke down and debated the Chess and Wire angles. DOPE!
Amazing talk from men in the culture where I grew up at. I applaud all of you. Thank you fellas. BK for life
Damn Gu dropped a gem just then “ Chess is a game of strategy, not life” I think his explanation was valid, but I also think that are some lessons that you can extract from it as you can anything in life. Every person has a different perspective on life. Some are great strategists, some are great in the moment. It all depends that individuals outlook.
Strategy is a tool that you do apply in life, but it isn't life itself. Thus, it's a strategy game (tools for life), but not a life game (replica of life).
Your comment inspired a truth wth me Guru missed the great masters at chess account for everything that is why being seven steps ahead is a requirement
@@dfree1442 I agree. I believe some ppl are consumed by strategy that they forget that everything isn’t about strategy. Some of the most strategic boxers were knocked out because of a punch they didn’t see coming. It didn’t make them any less strategic, its just that life is about experience, and some situations you just have no control over, no matter how much you plan for them.
@@stephenjones4013 True. I also think that all great minds think alike in some ways and other ways they think differently. They also know that no matter how far they plan ahead, sometimes life just happens. I believe the only true strategy that works in life is to keep a open mind and handle life as it comes.
He is right about chess...but in the game of life in order to be sucessful, you must 'strategize' ur movements...you must have a game plan and implement certain strategies in order to achieve ur desired outcome...
Pooh got out the game and got a regular job in the wire. He escaped death and jail too
Yea Pooh won for sure
*poot
@@julitotube yeah my fault *poot
Naymond is true winner in that context. A got a whole new chapter without the BS, actually get a chance to live out his potential
GURU is a deep brother, salute to him!Marlo lost because he had to give up the "GAME" & the streets forgot about him (evidenced by his final scene). POOT won IMO - consider what he went through, saw & did (Wallace), to then be able to get a simple 9-5 & no one that was still alive know about his past is remarkable & extremely lucky.
Salute to my brother 🙏🏾 💯
There’s a scene where D’angelo breaks down chess for Bodie and Wallace. Iconic
To a degree. The one difference he was looking for but didn't mention was CONTROL. Thats the true difference between his analogy and the game. Chess is relatable to life but life can't be dictated by the rules of chess. The next man's thoughts are unpredictable
Yo shoutout to all y’all that one was deep. May God keep blessing all you guys! Guru is different. Math I love your growth.
already knew what he was talking bout in the wire. BUT never thought of that chess analogy. Guru's a GEM
Chess is absolutely a game of life and strategy. Everything guru says is true . Players develop the same resources but what is unique as how you develop your pieces . Chess teaches you how to achieve goals . Chess teaches you to identify assets to achieve your goals ( pieces that are in position to help you ) and identify obstacles to that goal ( opposing players pieces that threaten you and /or protect there king . ) it don’t matter if you promoted a pawn to queen of your king gets matted . It doesn’t matter if you lose your queen if you get mate . Strategy is a huge part of a successful life . Good lesson Guru
Man when is this episode dropping haha been clips for like a week straight
Marlo the winner from Math perspective but he wasn’t the winner from his own
Them young boys not knowing his name when that was his goal
“Graveyard full of boys who wore the crown”
“But they wore it”
“My name is my name”
He didn’t go out on top, he just left the game. Omar helped kill his name, then the police neutered him and left him with a dare to step back in the streets
He was pushing so hard to be remembered only to be forgotten that quick and he had to live with that.
If he was so hard on others, imagine how hard that disappointment was on him
Drop the full interview !!
Yo guru is super smart I can't believe all of them other dudes missed thatAnd what he said about chess is spot on
He’s right
NOTHING compares to LIFE!
Those games just help you TRY to live life like a strategy game, BUT NOTHING can imitate life cause life is forever changing
Everyone decision you make will affect your future
The Wire is one of the greatest shows ever and so is New York Undercover. That show did a lot for Hip Hop and R&B artists in the 90s!!! If you know you know
Lmao not comparable
I use to think that about NY undercover but I recently caught an episode after many years, and the soundtrack and music is always banging, but the storylines could get a little corny . But to put that show in line with The Wire is just blasphemy!!😂

@@jazo85 that's actually a good show. It's well written

That's how barbershop conversations should be... knowledge and giving perspective. Passionate but not overly emotional. Listening, understanding, etc.
Great clip!! 👍🏾👍🏾
I was just stating this to My Mom the Day Before Yesterday and for a lot of the same reason.. Great Convo‼️
Hynaken said that’s y I like checkers more and they ignored it 😂😂😂😂
Slim Charles did win "the game"....from soldier to King....he solidified his spot once he killed Cheese. He had respect from both gangs & he's IN THE STREETS, not locked up like Avon. Marlo has his freedom but he CLEARLY had to let go of the hold he had of the streets, plus his shooters are gone. Snoop & Chris were the REAL reason Marlo could move like that. Mike murdered Snoop & Chris doing LIFE with Wee-Bey...the only survivor was Slim Charles & he knew the dirt that was done on all sides cuz his loyalty put him in position to watch how it all went down. If there can be a "winner", it can ONLY be Slim Charles. Mike became the new Omar, Dookie became the new Bubbles....The Wire was about natural selection & survival of the fittest. Give Slim Charles his crown 👑 lol this comment was way too long for a fictional TV show. My apologies 🤷🏿♂️
Love this comment. Big fan of the wire myself
Bro you hit it spot on.

I always think about that episode of the wire when Bodie and D had that conversation about chess in season 1. Ppl didn't understand how deep and true that was.

Guru is that dude, I totally enjoyed his knowledge, Confidence & being humble but in battle he will destroy you🧨👍
Greatest point made,
Aint no winners in the game💯
Damn shout outs to esso hold it down fam. Blessings to you.
I agree..Slim is the winner because he worked his way up, did his job well and he was loyal.
Naymond was the winner for me
These convo's are right up my alley. 💯
Guru is so correct... From his break down of Chess v Life to the emphasis of the fact that Slim won bc Marlo is ate up and damn near is on a suicide-type kamikaze trajectory.
Always I thought chess was just like life, but they way Guru explained it just change my whole thinking. He just blew me away, I love learning something new.
Podcast Has become one of my favorites. Only Interview Im Requesting now is "50 Cent"
Phenomenal interview. Geesh.

The chess analogy is 💯💯
What podcast/channel giving you chess and life gems.

A great conversation 👏🏾
How guru broke down chess was so clever and well analyzed I have to go back 3 or 4 times to hear it again. This was not just an interview this was a great debate. Math and Guru some smart niggas they on another level
Nigga really said “that’s why I like checkers” 😂😅
LMFAAOOOO damn fool

That was a great convo I had to listen again and you right you simply have to get out of the game to win, you retire with your life!
Love from Rochester, NY
looking forward to the next segment titled why an orange couldnt fall from an apple tree
Incredible insight
I ain’t gone lie I wish that Wire Convo could go on for an hour
Can't wait until someone has a more in-depth conversation about how the wire is and was as a whole in fact there is a guy on TH-cam who is very much intricate about that series and opens a lot of conversation about I just can't remember his page right now
That was love shouting out Big g … he not lying either … much love Guru ..
This convo is super insightful.... never thought of chess that way.
And Marlo WANTED Slim to takeover, but he “told” him he wasn’t fit for the crown, and ended up with it anyway! Love this Wire talk yo!!! 💪🏾🤙🏾💯
Never really got into Smoke DZA like that... but I respect Guru's point of view so much I'mma check him out more
Facts,Big G (Lead Talker of Backyard Band) definitely a figure out here in DC slim......What reggae is to Jamaica is what Go-Go is to D.C
I felt this 1... .💯💯
Man guru knowledge of the wire is exceptional. Dude memory is crazy good
Yes Slim Charles won. He survived 3 organization failures. Avon, Joe, and Marlo tried to promote him but Slim told him "Im not cut out to be no CEO." and and that was short lived. Slim ended up with the plug. Marlo did not win at the end of the wire. Marlo achieved Stringer Bell's dream but Marlo's only dream was to have the crown. It's like Avon told Stringer "I bleed red. You bleed green." Marlo is just a more vicious version of Avon. Marlo sold the connect to Slim and Rick. Beat his case due to McNulty illegal wire tap but this is how Marlo really lost. When Marlo leaves the rich people event that Levy the lawyer brought him to and he goes back to the trenches. Right before Marlo steps to young wolves on the block you hear them talking about Omar. Omar name is still ringing in the streets even after death. Marlo steps to the young'ns and ask them "Do you know who I am?" The young'ns say no and pull out a gun and one of em cuts Marlo and run. They did not even know who Marlo was after all the work he put in and thats why he lost. They knew Omar. They knew Avon. And they all from the same side of town. Marlo only cared about his reputation. Marlo was looking at life no parole possibly the death penalty and the only thing he cared about was that Omar was talking shit about him in the streets while in a holding cell. That's why he ordered Monk, Cheese, and Chris to let the hood know that he aint afraid of nobody. His rep was ruined at the worst moment cause he was jammed and he couldn't do anything about it. Marlo was back at square one where nobody knew his name and had to work his way back up. That's why that "Name is my name" scene is so heavy. Marlo grew up likely like Chris in group homes with nothing. His name is all he had and he lost it in the end.
Perfectly explained. Math missed this part of it.
THIS RIGHT HERE is the most accurate take on that Wire angle I've seen on this thread. Marlo beat that case, had millions 'cause he sold the connect and STILL went back to the game. "Marlo was just a more vicious version of Avon..." 🎯🎯🎯🎯
