  • KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli is set to be sworn in today and the ceremony will be followed by the announcement of MECs that will form part of the provincial cabinet. It remains interesting as to how Ntuli will navigate around issues of proportionality and representation as for the first time, the government of KwaZulu-Natal is made up of a block of parties such as he ANC, IFP, DA and the NFP. The UMkhonto WeSizwe Party is now the official opposition in the province.
Independent Political Analyst Mpumelelo Phungula speaks to Aldrin Sampear about KZN’s political stability.

Please tell MKP the 'horses have bolted ...'
If they start now they might have their chaotic administration ready by 2029!

How would you do that while the people didn't vote for you???

MK did not get a majority. It is incredibly unprofessional and even dangerous for a news anchor to say such a thing, given the tensions on the ground in KZN. The word is plurality: the biggest vote share but not a majority.

Majority is 50% +1. "Plurality" is what happened in KZN

By majority in this case means more votes than other parties. When such terminology is used to ANC you people don't say a word. By the way, the leading party with more votes is the one that choose how it will govern as it happens with ANC in a national assembly.
