Agreed, I also saw them last week for the first time at the Academy in Dublin. (Maybe the same gig) Amazing band, of the three groups performing that night, they were second only to Alestorm. The second band were terrible
yes such a amazing band i just wish they would have English versions too of all their music i feel im missing so much by not getting their lyrics but the music is great and powerful i know the lyrics must be amazing too
to hear this is a great compliment! We Dutch generally have an inferiority complex when it comes to using Dutch in music/metal. It is often said that English is better/more majestic/ has more flow. Dutch is looked at is less soulful than other languages. So to have that one band that works in Dutch. That's a sweet boost! :D Cheers again!
@@DP-um1ckHow interesting. I’m a native English speaker but simply can’t imagine my favorite Heidevolk songs, like Saksenland and Wapenbroeders, sung in anything besides Dutch. They are perfect the way they are!
the deathscene is fine for me, but i always get wet eyes, when i see his reunion with his father,... it goes through my spine every single time. what it must be for a feeling, meeting your dad, sitting beside odin, the moment you lived and fought for.
Met these wonderful people with my 8 year old son in Liverpool when on the tour with Alestorm. The guitarists gave him he pick from the stage, they took a picture with him and took time to have a conversation with him while doing a signing. They made his first consort amazing. They are such loverly people. We had never heard of them before this. Safe to say they have two new Fans.
@capreoluscapreolus5994 These are the people I met, and as to how they perform live, that is a matter of opinion. My son and I really enjoyed watching them and loved the performance. I wasn't commenting either on a video with the original line up, this is the lineup that I got to see and meet, so no, it wasn't a different band I met. It was this band in this video. Your comment is completely irrelevant.

I appreciate an English version, it is easier to share with my friends, though I have listened to the original so much this one now sounds a little weird.
I have that too, I prefer to hear the original, not because it is in my native tongue, but it sounds better, more powerful, the Dutch language, suits heidevolk
I LOVE how they honor us "Islander" Saksens with this English version! Could you guys do a 1066 version? Just the language spoken in 1066? Even an independent artist doing this song in 1066 English would be great!!!

Pretty sure most of them had a fairly good knowledge of English since a long time, anyway i still prefer the original version as it fits a bit better + used to it (and yes i'm not from the Netherland but my knowledge of Dutch and English is pretty much the same), sounds a bit weird now hearing them sing in English but still a good song but doesn't beat 'klauwen vooruit'. Also yeah there are plenty of bands out there singing in languages we don't know, Ningen Isu is one example and even if i search for translated lyrics it's mostly about the songs and how they sound and the voice is just an additional instrument and it doesn't rly matter that much. Alien Weaponry for example has both original songs in English, and in their native New Zealand tribe language 'Māori' and those youngsters sound amazing doing their thing.
What a strange genre of music that somehow still has a huge following. I could write the lyrics for a song in this genre right now. Well damn I coulda gone to that tour too
Saw these guys open for Alestorm and Korpiklaani in Bristol last night. They absolutely rock 🤟🏻
Got to see them at birmingham me and my brother got a pic with the band
Damn, you know a story's good when it gets you all misty without a word of dialogue or character's name spoken.
I love how they put Odin in the video..
Thank you so much for the English version! It is just as good as the Dutch language version. Regards from Bogotá, Colombia, Latin America!! 🔥🔥🔥

Thats a completely different band you've met. None of the original members are in it and really they dont perform that well live.

"Drinking with the Gods (Valhalla)"
Since the day that I was born
I walked the path of warfare
Took up my father's sword
And had it guide my journey
Through feasting and fighting
And ale so inviting
Limitless, fathomless
The lust for victory pushed me on
Boisterous and battle-born
The fear of death I've never known
In the hall of mead and tales
I'm drinking with the gods (Valhalla)
Feasting at their table (Valhalla)
I asked for her hand
She reached and gave me new life
Upon my father's land
I cast my wrath aside
And gathered in the hall
We'd sit and tell the stories
Of victory and of war
Of battles and the glories
The stories told of our fame
By offspring that still bears my name
In the hall of mead and tales
I'm drinking with the gods (Valhalla)
Feasting at their table (Valhalla)
Strong to my last breath
I will be the last to fall
Indulging my urges
Nothing that can stop me now
Come drink with the old ones and feast at their table
Oh drink with the old ones and feast at their table
See this old warrior, heed him this night
He carved out his saga, his journey through life
Seeking for glory, his courage unbound
Dancing on ruins he burned to the ground
Urth spun her threads and she guided him home
He found his new life back where he had begun
His kin now surrounds him, he earned this reward;
Embracing his new life he buried his sword
And should I fall, my time finally come
Valkyries will carry me home
I'm drinking with the gods (Valhalla)
Feasting at their table (Valhalla)
Strong to my last breath
I will be the last to fall
Indulging my urges
Nothing that can stop me now
Great THANKS for text of song..

First was in Dutch. But same song
First upload was Dutch version 😊
"Pijąc z Bogami (Valhalla)"
Od dnia, w którym się urodziłem
Szedłem drogą wojny
Wziąłem miecz mojego ojca
Miał kierować moją podróżą
Poprzez ucztowanie i walkę
I piwo takie zachęcające
Nieograniczony, niezgłębiony
Żądza zwycięstwa pchała mnie do przodu
Hałaśliwy i urodzony w walce
Strach przed śmiercią, jakiego nigdy nie znałem
W sali miodów i opowieści
Piję z bogami (Valhalla)
Ucztując przy ich stole (Valhalla)
Poprosiłem ją o rękę
Chwyciła ją i dała mi nowe życie
Na ziemi mego ojca
Odrzuciłem gniew na bok
I zebraliśmy się w sali
Siedzieliśmy i opowiadaliśmy historie
O zwycięstwie i wojnie
O bitwach i chwale
Historie opowiadały o naszej sławie
Przez potomstwo, które wciąż nosi moje imię
W sali miodów i opowieści
Piję z bogami (Valhalla)
Ucztując przy ich stole (Valhalla)
Silny do ostatniego tchnienia
Urth przędła swoje nici i zaprowadziła go do domu
Odnalazł swoje nowe życie tam, gdzie zaczął
Jego krewni go teraz otaczają, zasłużył na tę nagrodę;
Obejmując swoje nowe życie, zakopał swój miecz
A jeśli upadnę, w końcu nadejdzie mój czas
Walkirie zaniosą mnie do domu
Piję z bogami (Valhalla)
Ucztuję przy ich stole (Valhalla)
Silny do ostatniego tchnienia
Będę ostatnim, który upadnie
Zaspokajając moje pragnienia
Nic, co mogłoby mnie teraz zatrzymać
