  • I was hired to install the fabric covering on a Christen Eagle II restoration out of California. I covered the plane using Poly-Fiber covering products.
    This video is a time-lapse of the ailerons only. You can find additional pieces of this plane being covered on my channel.

    I loved watching your videos as I'm an aircraft enthusiast and an RC airplane hobbyist. I actually looked up polybrush because I was curious if I could adapt to RC. Imagine my surprise when I found they make an option specifically for RC. Thank you so much I would've never have known about this product if it wasn't for your videos!!!!

    How do you manage to apply that Goop without ever spilling a drop and keep it in such straight lines? Awesome talent and skill.

    You should film a lesson on rib stitching.. Its a lost art few are good at.

    I’m curious to the sequence you follow. I was taught to glue, shrink, coat with polybrush, stitch then tape. Looks like you coat with polybrush at the very end. Is that legal according to the STC, and do you find it gives you a smoother finish?

    Nice work. I talked to a guy at a small airport this year and he said he got $40,000 ea. for ailerons on a Corsair. That was all he needed to do was a few a year.

    How many years will a fabric cover usually last. Or how many hours? Do you paint these jobs? Does the paint make them last longer?

    Good advertisement for your business, I wish you were closer, I'd have you do mine. First time I've seen you wear a glove, every time I do they fall apart and get bits in the finish. Do you thin the poly-tack down?

    • @iapplyufly
      @iapplyufly  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I apply multiple coats of thinned poly-tak in place of one thick layer. It gives a smoother finish for priming and paint.

    • @psgflier
      @psgflier 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll give that a try. I've been taking a lot of time heating and wiping down with mek to smooth the lumps out. I have been watching your videos and Above Alaska Aviation's videos and noticed you both putting down poly tack then wetting down the fabric with more when putting it down.
      I've been using really thinned poly tack on the cut lines to help keep from fraying, it blends on the glued seams. Thinned poly brush works just as well and is easier to see after it drys.

      What ratio do you thin the poly
      tak/ superseam?

    • @iapplyufly
      @iapplyufly  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinned until it brushes on smoothly. Varies with temperature and humidity.

      Do you reactivate the polytack with straight MEK once the fabric is in place?
