Jack was a family friend, and I've been thinking about him a lot these past couple days, which brought me here. He tried to convince my Mom to get me into acting, but she thought I was too young. Now in my 30s, I'm pursing it. It has a lot to do with Jack. I miss him dearly.

The country was on a one-hand push up craze for at least a week after Jack did this as various celebrity hosts etc tried their hand at one hand push ups. TV crews were out at local gym goading hapless members into trying it!

Handsome when young, in a hard kind of way, he was an ideal heavy in films.
Of UKRAINIAN heritage, from a coal miner father, he was one of several actors having served in WW2. Most were patriots, and by that era's standards, were real men...having character and toughness.
Yes, he did a few pushups..and probably could have done more. But he was 73 at the time, and there are more than a few (relative) men in their 70's (and even beyond) who can do those basic strength exercises. You just have to stay fit. On the other hand, in society today, where men and boys have become feminized, here may be much younger men who can't do what Mr. Palance did on that stage.
Wish there were more actors like him today.

Curly (Jack Parlance) asks Mitch (Billy Crystal), “Do you know what the secret to life is?” Then Curly holds up one finger, looks at it, and says, “This.” Mitch responds, “Your finger?” Curly shakes his head, then replies, “One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don’t mean (anything).”
Giving Curly his full attention, Mitch asks, “That’s great, but what is the ‘one thing’?” Then Curly smiles and answers, “That’s what you have to find out.” As he walks off and out of scene.
    Memorable acting moment.
    RIP Jack Palance.😢
