Last time I saw Dutchie live was at Dave Doolittles. I hadn't see him for a dozen or more years and almost fell over when I did. I realized how much we'd aged. He sat in a chair on the stage, mic in hand, coffee on a stool beside him, but no more sassy sobbin' hollow-body on his belly - due to his arthritic fingers - yet still sounding every bit the Dutch Mason I first fell behind in the 70's at The Wyse Owl during a Saturday matinee that was already stuffed with Sam Moon and Rickie Oakley. Then I saw him two weeks later at a 13th Tribe biker party at the Waverley Firehall where old Dutch polished a 40 of black straight out of the bottle during the first set. I probably saw him play 50 times over the years.
The guitar player from the first band I was ever in later started up, and successfully ran the "Dutch Mason Blues Festival" in Truro, which I believe has fallen to history as well.
Dutchie was a fixture in many of our lives, especially here on the East coast where he'd often tour the bar circuit. Everyone knew him...everyone misses him.
He will forever be Canada's first and only ever Prime Minister of The Blues
    No more hard times.
    RIP

dont give that demon credit for Dutchies greatness.
Dutch was a great man with no Devine excuses; he worked for his talent he didnt have it gifted by a deity false as it may be....

Wow!... seeing this video reminds me of the time I sat in with Dutch Mason as he sang "I Ain't Drunk" while I sang the background part. This was in Vancouver at The Yale Saloon and again at a small club near Whistler. Dutch was performing along guitarist Johnny Tornado and his band. The next day I got to hang out with Dutch to talk about music and guitars. This was in 1999.

That's Pat Rush. He's the only player to have ever recorded slide on a Johnny Winter album. That's saying something. Also toured with Jeff Healey before Jeff's passing. Seen him at jams in Toronto. Very tasteful player for the song. Incredible chops.

wayne moores - Are you " Hook " Moore , from up in the north end of Dartmouth ? I grew up in Dartmouth, went to Prince Andrew High School and rowed at the Mic Mac Club from 1963-1975. In the summers I used to go to dances at Banook Canoe club , also to Creek Alley back in the day . I knew Bob Butt very well and use to see Kenny Butt around .

He used to play all over, back in the day. I kinda remember, making a fool of myself, on stage in a Legion, up your way somewhere. Years later, when I saw him in London, he came to my table, and sat. From then when I saw him in London he would come to the table. Nicest guy.

The great Albert's Hall. Saw Buddy Guy ( people in front row got him really drunk, at one stage he walked into washroom while continuing to play his guitar), Junior Wells and Buddy, Paul Butterfield, Eddie 'Clean Head' Vinson, as well as Willie Dixon downstairs( amongst others ). Only other bar that came close was ( the many locations of ) The Misty Moon, saw Muddy Waters, Edgar Winters, Long John Baldry, as well as Nova Scotia Blues Bands including Dutchie, Matt Minglewood , Sam Moon and others.

Those were the days. I remember seeing Roy Buchanan at the Misty Moon at stageside. I'll never forget as long as I live the shock when I realized that Old Roy was drunker than me, while playing virtuoso blues guitar. Like I said, those were the days.
