    This is something all the EV naysayers need to see. An EV can sit untouched for 10 years, still hold a charge, and drive off. Some people think you have to replace the battery pack every few years, it's amazing.

    • @joemcdonough7509

      Yep it's true. If you keep the battery temperature in check and charged between 20-80%, the battery chemistry will last 10+ years. I've maintained my 4 year old e-bike battery this way and it's only degraded 1%. They simply last for many many years and maintenance free except for the normal brakes and chains.

      New tyres, new brakes, new 12V Battery, new paint detail, new Alpine head unit, new boot springs, fix rear door handle, fix charge port door, complete clean and disinfect of the interior (I see a crossover video with one of those deep clean specialists) - and that's just the stuff they discovered at first glance. Also the cooling system wasn't coming on when charging so that might be an issue. Lots of content.

  • @AustinTechAuthority

    It has Active battery cooling, LiFePO4, and more range than the 2012 Nissan Leaf. This car was quite advanced at the time it was released!! It's still shocking to me that Nissan never implemented basic liquid cooling into any of the Nissan Leaf models including the 2023 year.

      @@joemcdonough7509 Actually, he would be better off sticking to his plan. Aging Wheels has been trying to daily drive his Coda, and it's proven to be a steady consumer of wheel bearings, door handle parts (even this one is broken), and other chintzy plasticky bits that were made with the best sweatshop labor in China in the day. Still neat to see a forgotten one resurrected.

    • @kens97sto171
      @kens97sto171 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Maybe... the Fuel would be the major issue. Though Most modern cars do a good job of sealing the fuel tank. That helps. I have personally fired up car that sat for 3-5 years.. with nothing. Especially fuel injected cars. Battery , and turn the key.
      There are lots of TH-cam channels devoted to resurrecting cars that have been sitting. I've seen cars that sat in a field for 70 years, made to run with some simple hand tools, and a little care. Now DRIVING.. that's a whole other thing... brakes , rust, suspension issues.. etc. Also rodent infestation becomes a MAJOR problem with cars sitting outside in a field or barn.
      The fact that this Coda with a LFP battery still had charge.. that's amazing. And makes me seriously think about the LFP Tesla Model 3.

    • @p0kerp1aya
      @p0kerp1aya ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No chance. The fuel tank, carb/injectors, fuel line.... Everything would be complete varnish.... You'd have to replace all of it.

    • @kens97sto171
      @kens97sto171 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@p0kerp1aya
      Absolutely not true especially on fuel injected cars.
      Carburetor definitely might need to be rebuilt. Although older cars if they were sitting from a long time ago had non-ethanol fuel. Pretty much doesn't cause too many problems. You can have gumminess but you don't get that white crusty corrosion inside the carb. That's caused by the alcohol.
      I personally fired up fuel injected cars that it's at for at least 3 years. Put a new 12 volt battery in it, turned the key and it lit right off.
      I've seen antique cars that have sat in the field for 70 years get fired up the same day with some basic tools and mechanical knowledge. Now driving those vehicles is a whole different thing. Usually the chassis is completely rusted through. Brakes are unusable usually the wheel bearings are locked up and it isn't worth it. But often the guys that are working on these vehicles are after the powertrain only. Oftentimes in an antique vehicle the engine is worth quite a bit of money since they're not very easy to find anymore.

    • @p0kerp1aya
      @p0kerp1aya ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kens97sto171 my money is still on the car not running. 3 years, you might be able to get away with it, but 10 years 🤔....I don't think so.

    • @kens97sto171
      @kens97sto171 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@p0kerp1aya
      Funny the older the car the better chances are you have of getting it running. Any car that sat before about 1992 did not have ethanol in the fuel.
      Any car that was built before 1975 is not going to have any computers or electronics. You'll have points controlled ignition and distributor, carburetor, that's about it. All you need is the coil, 12 volt wires, and spark plug wires..
      On newer fuel injected cars, your biggest risk is rodent damage. They start eating through the wiring harnesses and you're going to have an absolute nightmare trying to get it running.
      Depends on the make and model a little bit too. I don't know why this is but some vehicles had the insulation on the wires made out of some kind of organic material I think corn-based. And rodents are attracted to it and tend to eat it up. Other vehicles not really so much a problem.
      Go on TH-cam you can find tons of videos of people reviving old cars sitting in a field.
      I've seen a couple where the car sat in the field for over 70 years and they got it running.
      Like I said getting it driving is a whole other challenge.

    This is a flash from the past for me. I am a long time member of an EV club in So.California that had one of these demonstrated for us back when they first went on sale. We all got a ride in it and had about the same reaction to it you did. Plain as it is, as well as only mildly impressive for its build quality, it underwhelmed us, but we did think it rather good for a Chinese built car of that time. None of our members saw fit to buy one though. Leaf had better character and reputation for those in the club wanting a new EV.
    I would love to find another one of these at the right price based on what you found in this video. LFP from that era did not seem the way to go, with other Chinese cars and trucks we looked at back then. The power density was so much lower than Lithium ion vehicles. Ten years has seen a lot of battery improvements and we have just begun to get them into a truly competitive price range.

    My wiki search on Coda Electric vehicle yields an interesting story. This is a Rare Vehicle indeed, with only 117 delivered in (California). They took an existing China manufactured ICE vehicle ( Hafei Saibao ) and converted it to an EV with a 100 kW motor, 31 kWh Lifepo4 battery with 88 mi range.

      I picked up an older BMW i3 that sat for years, the car only had 133 miles on it and the original 12 volt battery.. Car started up and drove perfectly and had zero battery degradation.. The ice engine next to the electric motor didn't even need an oil or filter change. Car sat unmoved for 7.5 years.

For me, the entire "Coda Experience" has been the biggest pain in the ass of anything I have ever dealt with in my entire life, and that's putting it mildly. I'm biting my tongue and will just say if you need service (you most likely will) I hope you can deal with the Aging Wheels guy for assistance. I don't think Kyle meant ugly in looks. The car is cosmetically ugly from sitting in the California sun and baking for a decade. This is fixable and is his plan. IIRC, Coda used a Mitsubishi Lancer chassis and converted it. The roof will be the worst based on these videos as the clear has baked off. I see a full paint job as being inevitable. Maybe get with the Dip Your Car channel to come up with a hypershift paint color that would play with the fact that the car is an EV - black to an electric blue or something.

    This says a lot about the reliability of electric cars. Even the very early ones. An ICE car wouldn't have done that well unattended.

      There are literally a million "barn find" videos on TH-cam that would prove you wrong.

    • @tfcooks

      @@tomhoots BS! Any gas powered car that was left unprepped for 10 years would need a carb rebuild or have the jets replaced, gas tank flush, coolant flush and probably new head gaskets just to get it moving. You " literally" don't know what you're talking about.

      Keep promoting electric cars, when everyone has one and it cost 200 bucks to charge a hatchback ev you’ll be PIIIIIIIISSSSEDDDD 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 COAL AND OIL SUPPLY THE CHARGERS

      I wonder if Fast-JZS147 works as a troll for the big oil companies. He's skipping electricity from solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal so I'm sure he is. Also it already costs nearly $100 to fill up your car with gas now and it will just keep rising as oil reserves dwindle. We will run out of oil eventually and that's just a FACT.
