I have the same bike in 58 with Enve SES 4.5 wheels instead and I replaced 2 year old Canyon Endurace with Durace 11 speed. I love both bikes but Enve Mele does exactly what you said in your video(s) - the price is high for sure but it is worth it - in my case I used money from Canyon to upgrade to that so it made me feel a bit better and sort of justified the price. I love riding it and I do love the color and the understated look. For those that are fashion minded - Enve is more like an understated high label (Hermes or Loro Piana) where the rest are more like Louis Vuitton… just saying. No one is making anyone spend this kind of money - anyone can get a super super nice canyon for half the price with the same Ultegra Di2 setup and notice little to no difference. For me - it was very simple - once I saw the frame and read about it - I was sold - 35 mm clearance on the race bike - is all I needed to hear - I am big believer that in the few years most people will ride road bikes on something like 32 to 35… you just wait… no one would have though that we would be doing 28/30 today 15 years ago when most were on 23 mm tires… have fun friends. Love the content and the delivery David!!!
I had Endurace in size M and Enve is 58 - Bette fit for me. I had Endurace slammed as well - I did increase the stem to 100 and bar at 40 (42 on the drops) - I did not measure the difference but it fells the same in terms of the fit.
As Peter Sellers said (I think) - you hit the nail between the eyes. Ie you are spot on. For many of us riders, as much as we wish to emulate mvdp, the reality is a road bike with a bit of endurance blended in, is the sweet spot. And this bike seems to be right there. Would be great - at some point - if you did a round-up of all the major bikes out there - and put them on a scale from race to endurance. So us viewers could match to what we are looking for in a bike. Thanks Dave!
Your videos are top quality David! Thanks for your commitment to the community. I bought a cervelo aspero last month after watching many of your videos. I love it! Cycling is becoming a bigger part of my life and I appreciate your help! 🚀🚀
Love mine too David. I have found it a fantastic all round bike. It has done a 200km ride and remained comfortable; 300km in Flanders, handling the cobbles easily with 35c tyres, and is very fast for the weekly chain gang. What really surprised me though is how well it climbs. It is a climbing monster. Haven’t put mudguards on yet but I will do this winter and will likely keep on it until it gets a bit icy and I won’t want to take the risk. All in all, it is a superb bike. I like the colour and the fact that it won’t be out of date in a year’s time. Yes it’s pricy but it is worth every penny.
This bike was my dream bike, I really was eager to watch your test. I am convinced that it is the bike I need. I find it classy, very nice in grey, the higher stack is very wise … but the price is definitely too high !!! At least by 2000 €, I simply can’t afford it. Too bad for me, congrats to lucky buyers, I envy you 😜
My last purchase was between this bike and the Colnago C68. I really like both bikes a lot. I ended up choosing the C68 mainly because I don’t really like the color options of the Melee. I understand that ENVE has some custom build with more color option but that would have added quite more to the price plus my local Colnago dealer had the exact frame I wanted and that made my choice much easier. I’m also in Southern California so no need for any mudguards. Having my Sunday morning coffee in my Just Ride Bikes cup and watching this video is a perfect way to wake up! Cheers David!!!
I enjoy your videos and just subscribed. Not only because I like your content but also because you're not hammering viewers all the time to subscribe. Great work. As far as the Enve Melee, I'd consider one if they'd make it in more colors than silver.
Another great video! I like the color, understated and elegant. I wouldn't mind having a bike like this but I'm pretty happy with my Aethos. As well, a properly made BB with PressFit is just as good, if not better than a threaded BB.
A good review David and great weather as well. A good looking steed imo, light, understated and I'm a big fan of silver colour schemes! Im sure theres going to be a lot of people out there with with cash aplenty but sadly I dont have the kind of shekels it takes to afford such an incredibly high price! The old saying goes; "what looks good costs good".
Thanks for the honest review. I enjoy my Melee and can feel its improvements over my 2019 Canyon Ultimate that was recently damaged. In comparing it to the new SL8, I can imagine where Enve could next improve this bike. A smaller bottom bracket and narrow stays would allow it to lose some excess grams and with today's carbon fiber tech, it would likely be just as stiff or stiffer than it is now. I can't complain about its weight, though. Do you recommend any specific mud guards for it? I've only used clip-on ones on previous bikes. Thanks again!
Lovely bike. Too rich for my blood though. I considered it when I was looking to replace my TCR. I opted for an Aethos comp with Roval C38 wheels and a Mirror saddle. I’m 58 years old and don’t race. Do a lotta climbing and I do like to go fast (for me) on the downhills. I usually ride 700 k a month on about 15 rides. On a typical ride my average speed is 29k an hour with about 400 meters climbed. My Aethos as is cost me around U$6000. I’m sure the Enve is still marginally better for someone like me but I couldn’t justify the price difference.
I have the enve melee with SRAM as red and princetons wheels - much better overall bike that’s the others. Full race bike and then a winner at the BWR with 37mm tires
