    So watching this I decided I should probably check my engine just on the off chance that something was amiss as I was beginning to hear some chittering coming from my engine. Well, good thing I did. The cylinder is scarred, the piston is scarred, apparently my wrist pin retaining clips are shot and I caught everything one step away from total engine failure. Thank you for this video! You just saved my engine and my wallet. New cylinder has arrived. New piston will be in soon, and hopefully I will be back on the road again singing along within the next week. I can't thank you enough for your videos and everything that you do. Please keep making them, you're likely saving more people than just me!

    I used my engine for about 5 hours then the bottom end locked up. Once I took the engine apart, I believe it was pieces of the bushing got into my crank bearings causing my failure. The wrist pin was in but because the bushing shelled, my piston was rocking side by side instead of just front and back like it should rock back and forth. Bicycle Engines is sending out a new motor to me once the new parts show up to get upgraded

    I thought useing bushing rist pins went out of style in the 60s.and everyone went to needle bearings because the problem you had. Running 20 and 32 to 1 oil mix is not enought oil for a bushing. Some companys used to have a small hole drilled through the rod from the rist pin to the rod bearing to bring more oil to the bushing. Most of the motors that used bushings in their motors for ristpin or any other bearing used a 16to 1 oil mix. Mabe its just me, but useing that chainsaw head/cylinder with the head fins faceing the wrong way doesnt help anything.that was designed to have a fan cooling it. I would think that motor is running to hot. Its to bad your having a problem. Sounds like its a nice running bike. Hope you get your problem resolved.

    • @derekpirie9188
      @derekpirie9188 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that the small end could do with a needle roller bearing. As for the head fin direction. This was designed for ducted forced air cooling. Changing the direction to inline, front to back, will help with the cooling.

    I've just bought the phantom 85 gen 3. I installed it today. When I assembled it I used STP oil treatment on all of the moving parts including the rings wrist pin bearing and lower rod and main bearings. I love STP oil treatment, I use it on my chain as well. It is thick like honey. When I received my phantom 85 it had the sticker on the clutch cover that indicated it was a V2. My engine came with a needle bearing for the wrist pin, which indicates that it is a V3. I guess they realize that the version one and version 2 were failing with the parts that were provided so they went into all of their boxes that were ready to ship and included the needle bearing. I also noticed that the cooling fins on the engine are very small and insignificant compared to my ld100. I had an old plastic fender that I cut in half and made pretty good looking fairings out of them that direct air onto the motor. I know that the top end is modeled after the ms460. It looks like an exact replica which means that it would require a housing around it and a cooling fan to supply continuous air. Well I just put it together today and put about an hour of run time on it with a 16 to 1 ratio, with a little smidgen extra oil too. Extra oil cannot hurt. I have experimented with a two-stroke weed eater. It can almost run on pure oil with no fuel. Extra oil can never hurt. I have a spark plug that is completely filled with carbon on the inside where the electrode is. It hasn't found out yet and it's still running. When I swapped it for a new one I noticed a decrease in power. I think that little bit of space that that carbon filled in the spark plug increased compression. I'll be riding it to work in the morning. It seems like a very strong and smooth motor compared to the ld100. Oh well good night smooth sailing..

    So taking the top end apart and the piston off is relatively easy? You don't need a ring compressor or anything? Never messed with a 2 stroke engine but I have torn apart and re-assembled a 2.0 and a 2.2 liter fuel injected car motor. These motors seem very simple. I am not trying to risk it though. Thanks you have a interesting channel.

      @LAHover  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On most motor I have found that they will normally do 30-35mph without vibration being a big issue. Some will even do 40mph relatively smooth. Past 40mph most will need a balanced crank.
      If you are having vibration issues under 30mph it is likely caused by one or both of the following.
      Carburetor needle is set to rich, and/or at poorly mounted motor.
      Those are only the most common issues, but there are more.

    Are there any legit companies who will ship a motor that you don't have to take apart, that doesn't have any defects? Lawn mower companies, chainsaw companies, scooter companies, they somehow have figured out a way to send a motor out of the factory that doesn't need screwing with and that doesn't shrapnel itself. Is there anybody reputable out there? Doesn't seem that there's any other ready-made product I can think of on the market that seems to have so many issues and pre-installation rebuilding.

    The lady Megan and Molly and there's some other lady her name begins with an M2 which sounds kind of funny it's like they're playing games and trying to give you the runaround so you don't know who you're speaking to but I have her on the phone recording telling me that it's their fault because they didn't send out no pamphlet on a specifications and how to break engines in and now because I'm trying to get my stuff replaced with these people don't want to get back to me that company is trash don't be fooled by all the positive reviews on their page they're probably deleting all the negative ones but that company is trash

      Yes, new motors use a needle bearing. But some still have issues snagging rings.
