You gotta love the tactic of letting the clock run down for the final kick, only to allow time left on the clock after the kick. You can read his lips, Gary Moeller tells Grbac to call the time-out with 4 seconds left. Nowadays, no coach would leave 4 seconds on the clock for any FG attempt, let alone a 20-yard FG. 2-3 seconds max. This one second allowed UCLA to heave up a Hail Mary. This game could have went from one of the more memorable Michigan finishes of all time, to being in the column of a Red Rocket Right disaster.
Greise: "Notre Dame was a good ball club ...." This good ball club was just the defending National Champs, with everyone back, who just beat Michigan in the Big House who I believe was preseason ranked #1 in country cuz they had everyone coming back from their Rose Bowl Championship team and many thought should likely win the National Championship and I guess Griese just viewed them as just a good ball club....I know its just semantics but I'm curious whom he thought was great? The U? Couldn't argue with him there for they were a great team loaded in talent and whom that good ball club, ND, beat En Route 🍀 to the National Championship....Just pointing out the obvious bias and dislike he has for the Irish.....Michigan was beaten by a great ND team and had their chances to win despite many obstacles and an electrifying performance by one of the greatest college players who ever laced em up...Michigan was a great team that yr as were the Hurricanes and the Buffs....A team, without looking at the final standings, that would correctly be classified as "good" would likely have been Ohio State or Oklahoma
This is one of the most underrated Michigan finishes of all time.
