I really hope Gower doesn't abandon it if it gets popular like he did with RS... I'd argue that's why RS got into the state it did. Brighter shores looks amazing and may just be what MMO's need to shake up the genre and refresh it.
It sounds like it would be, hopefully classes can be swapped and exist to make combat more flexible instead of less. Maybe we can collect several classes that all have their own weapons/spells they are strong with, could prevent certain weapons from clearly being the meta choices.
I wish this game and Runescape a positive future full of prosperity. Thank you Gower brothers for creating such an amazing part of my childhood and helping me get through many hardships. You have my support. 😍
I've always felt that what made runescape special was it's freedom and meta game. When I started playing as a kid I avoided questing like it was the plague. All that I wanted was to skill and try and make money on the GE. The fact that nothing ever got in my way with runescape was what made it special to me.
Completely understand that. I loved skilling, but the quests with the dry humor is what I enjoyed the most. GE wasn’t around when I started. It’s cool hearing people’s perspectives when they started, how they play etc.
The mining looks like a lot of movement. I really like the idle-ness of tree cutting/fishing. I hope that remains. And random events that occur, like being teleported away for a mini event, with nice rewards was fun too.
I feel like this game was created for us old MUD players. Very excited. Despite everyone complaining about it, I love the rooms idea. Great way to give the player that sense of exploration.
Nothing can be the new RuneScape, it was much about the timing and the landscape as it was about the revolutionary design of the game. I say this as a person who doesn’t play or has never played RuneScape past the tutorial area.
im so hyped for this, if it plays even a fraction of how good it looks then it will be a hit, but nothing can overtake osrs and thats fine, with how many games have flopped this year and the last we really need this to be a decent game, that means no sbi or dei involvement
I hear you, but I think they will have larger rooms in the game. I don’t think I showed them off all that great in the video. There are clips of larger areas on the shore and in the forest, but I understand I have the same thoughts overall. Ot seems a little weird that they made this design decision. I’m going to wait and see how I feel about it in application, when we can play the game.
I remember my friend in elementary school telling me about RuneScape in 2001 while we were at school. As soon as I got home, I created an account and wasted a bunch of time trying to make my character. Ended up having to log off while mining ore in the tutorial, so I could eat dinner. I knew I was addicted the second I was thinking about mining more ore as I rushed through my dinner. 😂
"This game promises to set new standards in the genre", sounds like every pitch from every MMO ever made. I'm not expecting much, and neither should anyone else - hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised.
Game looks fine. I doubt that it will “surpass” RS or OSRS but it really doesnt need to. Im fairly certain that the game will have a sizable playerbase that will make this their home game and it will do fine. Personally I need it to have a mobile client like OSRS or RS in order for me to even give it the time of day but thats just due to how the game plays; which is perfectly fine.
Im looking forward to it. There aren't many games that compete with runescapes niche and I think people need more stuff like this. No one has to stop playing runescape to play this lol so not sure why so many people are negative towards it. Good vid
For sure! I think people will continue playing Runescape as well. Brighter Shores will ultimately be another game for me to play during downtime. Thank you for the feedback!
I think the main niche that this game will fill is the downtime between breaks in RuneScape. A lot of players take breaks ranging from a few weeks to months, but they always come back. I think this will be a great game to play to take a break from RS for a month or two to play through the newest episode, and reignite passion for the game, where you can then return to RS after you're done with the content.
It's one of them where I'll try it, mostly as a thanks to the RS creators, but... it looks rough, can't lie. They took the idea of 'tilesets' too literally.
I like how it looks so far, but one thing to bear in mind is other MMOs success and to why they reached said stage. I for one, loved Final Fantasy 14's job system that essentially allowed you to level up any role and any class without having to do everything from zero once again. It almost takes in mind RS's skill system. I know it's too early to say, but being restricted to classes to this day and age in MMOs honestly feels like outdated design at this point.
Wow, thanks a ton for the 100th sub! 🎉 Your support means a lot. I took a screenshot of your kind words for reference and memory of the milestone. More content is coming your way! Thank you, again!
This game will help them test the waters. Some of you guys expect it to be as in depth as runescape. Maybe it can be but idk if it will reach that kind of scale
i feel like runescape was at the right place at the right time and thats why it it became so successful. its gonna be very difficult to get a similar fan base
I will absolutely be giving this game a shot even tho i don't think it will directly compete with runescape. I usually focus on one MMO and play it for a month or two before hopping to another and adding this to the pool of options will definitely freshen things up. The thing is tho that competing side to side with OSRS is an *incredibly* difficult thing to do and i would much *much* rather see a new game with a fresh take doing its own things in its own ways, and only really sharing the design philosophy at its core There's space for more than one MMO and variety is king~
I really hope it turns out to be good, but I won’t have my expectations set too high. It’s going to be hard to beat out their former creation that’s been going strong for decades at this point with an endless variety of content and depth to their otherwise simple game mechanics.
As a RuneScape lifer. 2002. I will certainly give Gowers game a try. Will it pull me away from RuneScape. Definitely not, but if it’s like RuneScape I can just multi monitor it lol
This game will succeed if it manages to keep the OSRS combat philosophy of safe spotting, multitasking threats, and some analogue to prayer switching, while doing away with the absurd grinds for skills and having excellent quests. It should have a larger focus on dungeons, raids, and bosses.
I'm for sure giving this game a go. But what'll make it or break it will be the gearing system. I'm tired of "generic sword #67 which is better than generic sword #66 due to it's extra 3 dex". I prefer OSRS system where varied weapons are viable in varied content and for varied moments. Also you know the name of every weapon in OSRS not the case in WoW for example. There is still weapon power creep in OSRS but there is always a variety of stuff to use in a given piece of combat content.
I've waited for so long for a game to even come close to RS, but have NEVER gotten that itch scratched over my decade+ playing. IMO, RS is in competition with no one but themselves. This game looks like a fun time sink but overall even from the teasers and overall looks of it, it will be a long, long time before a game dethrones RS in it's genre class. I will always thank the creators and OG makers of RS as it is one of the best games ever made and still IMO rivals modern games in enjoyment and overall fulfillment.
I completely understand where you're coming from! RS has truly set a high bar for immersive gameplay and community engagement. It’s amazing how a game can hold fans for so long. Not many games can do that. Overall I feel that Brighter Shores is going for a more casual episodic approach with what seems to be targeted toward mobile/PC hybrid. With how simple everything looks it looks like a mobile game. Either way I'll hold my opinions off until I can get my hands on gameplay.
Yeah, sadly it looks like about 80% of the content will be behind the paywall or sub model. Especially since you need to go into the Mines of Mantuban to progress one of the chapters.
@@mikel9138 I would focus on making an extensive and long experience (without sacrificing quality) and then promote a user-run marketplace and get a cut from each exchange. It would have to be with items earned in gameplay, not in an e-shop. Money should be organically earned through gameplay, but it could be sold by the devs to get more support. In-game money wouldn't necessarily be a leg up, since it's up to the seller to provide the item and to whom. Basically a player-run demand and supply market for earned items where money would get you stuff for sure, but it's up to people, not an e-shop to decide the distribution of items. If the game is not big enough to support development even after this, I might look into more options or a simple monthly/yearly fee, but in no way would it be near 80$ or impede people from progressing normally. Cosmetics-only or status-only benefits are a good way to ensure it doesn't become pay-to-win if a premium membership is introduced. Obviously, these ideas are for MMORPG types where items and money can circulate and even simulate a simple idea of an economy. No loot boxes or micro transaction needed!!
Thanks for showing this game, never heard of it before and i think it should be way more advertised before it ends up like osrs or rs3 in a "dead spot" of all the games that are around. This game looks really interesting and im surely giving it a shot. Perfect balance between rs3 and osrs imo just without the main annoiyng parts of rs3 like mtx hopefully
@@Mezigoto Personally, having level limit means you can't 99 on all skills. So the game was considerably more brutal. I wonder if there are osrs mods that would give out that ultima online feel by restricting your levels.
@@NanomachineExE I think it’s more of the comparison to RS than anything. It’s not directly linked to the rooms system itself. It’s easy to not like something when comparing to something people really care about. I knew this topic would cause discussion, but not like this 😂
Idk why everyone is talking about this game but not about the only thing that matters, how will they stop bothers and scammers in a game like this? If they solve this then im sure the game will have a BRIGHTER future
Tbh i don't think the game will take off. It looks very artificial and a bit too complex. The charm of Runescape was and is in my opinion, the simplicity and sandbox style. The world if Runescape back in the day was even playable for me as a kid without english knowledge because it was so intuitive. A tree could be cut, a store sells stuff according to his mini map symbol, a cow drops hide which can be made into leather, tree logs can be burnt and used to cook raw fish and meat, grain grinded to flour and used to bake bread. That made the game great and also teached me basic knowledge and english lol. Also the fact that you could get scammed in so many ways and had to be smart with people. And if you die, you lose your stuff and people can pick it up. That was so exciting. Brighter Shores doesn't seem to deliver the same concept.
Im really excited for this game as I used to play Runescape alot back in the day. Its hard to go back now just because of the bad graphics. I've been closely following. Btw Im not sure why you brought up the room system. theres alot of games that have that same system, there wasnt anything particularly innovative that you mentioned.
I'm excited as well! Hopefully they can pull off the magic with this project, like they did with RS. I mentioned the room system because it was something Andrew Gower has shown off in tweets and clips of gameplay. After sitting on it and talking with people in the comments, I honestly forgot about games like Albion Online that do something similar. I mentioned it because it differs from Runescape in that aspect.
f2p with trade restricted is what osrs should have done YEARS ago, it would cull the amount of botting by a ton. yes droptrading is still a thing but easily counterable. just make the loot disappear when dropped by f2p player (yes u can still trade by dying in wildy)
I think it will ultimately get pushed back. I’m a little worried about the room system as well, but trying to hold opinions until I get my hands on the game!
Room system looks stupid, don't like seeing dark fog/sht visuals at the edge of my screen in place for "performance", this is 2024 we literally have the tech to not be doing this.
Hmm looks good but also looks so similar to Albion Online with those names and graphics while Albion has already had many updates and long grind times. I will be interested how this game will play out though
Why would someone make a game to fill a gap that doesn’t exist? Both versions of live RuneScape are so good that there’s just no reason to have another iteration.
rooms system is cool but I have concerns just based on seeing it. The visible tiles and the visible small rooms really take me out of the game and bother me. Could feel different when played I'm just going off the visual. Also I need to see a reason to play this over runescape which I guess time will tell.
One big thing that people will absolutely hate is that every clip of this game shows tons of black background completely ruining the vibe. If they don’t change that the game dies. Seems small but it’s not because you feel so trapped on the map and not showing the world. Having that background is horrendous.
I wish I could get excited about this game but there's a few things that make it a turn-off for me: 1) Classes are artificial barriers to playstyle. If they want something different to RuneScape, Albion did it well by making experience tied to a weapon style. 2) The room based system makes the game world look small. The tile graphics don't help either. 3) All of the interfaces and interactions look like they are designed for mobile. A mobile first design is usually awful for PC players. 4) I really like being able to select world in RuneScape, it gives you a home world and lets you run into the same players a lot. While not having worlds will make it easier to meet up with friends, it takes away a lot of that community charm. I'll still give it a try and hope to be proven wrong on some of my points, but I don't have a lot of hope. Maybe it has an audience that loves these things, but it's unfortunately not me.
Pressure? Nah, we’re just trying to turn this retirement project into a blockbuster sequel! In all seriousness. I get what you mean. I just hope for a new experience. If it fails, at least we still have RS!
What about Brighter Shores are you most excited for? Do you think it will be able to stand up to Runescape?
there is absolutely zero chance this will stand up to runescape... much less, even be close. 😅
Really, zero? Is it because they don’t have the RS name tied to it, or do you feel that there is something wrong with the gameplay that they have shown off?

@@Tenpull I just ran your comment through various AI detectors because it sounds AI generated itself.. Different websites claim up to 40% of what you wrote is AI generated.
I really hope Gower doesn't abandon it if it gets popular like he did with RS... I'd argue that's why RS got into the state it did. Brighter shores looks amazing and may just be what MMO's need to shake up the genre and refresh it.
Right? I’m crossing my fingers too! Brighter Shores looks awesome, and it’d be a bummer if Gower pulled a disappearing act again!
@@Mezigoto Regardless, I'll be there with bells and whistles, reliving that MMO Love with high hopes and positivity.
He's basically said he regrets Selling RS already so
Having classes is a massive step back.
if were locked in yes, if not its still rock paper scissors
ye part of what keeps rs open is using all weapons and magic it depends what a class locks you in to.
@@nomore7285yeah but OSRS manages to keep rock paper scissors interesting because of weapon switching and hybrid loadouts.
It sounds like it would be, hopefully classes can be swapped and exist to make combat more flexible instead of less.
Maybe we can collect several classes that all have their own weapons/spells they are strong with, could prevent certain weapons from clearly being the meta choices.
Maybe don’t go into this game expecting this game to be like osrs, expect something new
I wish this game and Runescape a positive future full of prosperity. Thank you Gower brothers for creating such an amazing part of my childhood and helping me get through many hardships. You have my support. 😍
The world seems small and restricted unlike Runescape's world
I've always felt that what made runescape special was it's freedom and meta game.
Hopefully using dynamite is just one way to mine. I’d imagine you can use a pickaxe as well
i do love the attention to detail with characters animation and interactions with objects for skilling
rooom system is interesting. competition for resources was a constant source of conflict back in rs
I had no idea about this project. I was delighted to be suggested this video and am now looking forward to this coming out! :)
That’s awesome to hear! Hope to see you in game!
I feel like this game was created for us old MUD players. Very excited. Despite everyone complaining about it, I love the rooms idea. Great way to give the player that sense of exploration.
I think I will really enjoy the game. The way you travel around the map reminds me of Dofus, which is one of my favorite MMOs, so it can work.
Not a fan of how they divide it into rooms, the game feels very claustrophobic in the areas. As if the game was just structures off dungeoneering.
The gower brothers were a staple in my teen gaming years. 😊
I had a similar experience as well! A friend in 4th grade told me about it and went home that day lost in tutorial island 😂
Im excited to see what the Gower bro’s come up with this time. Truly legends of the industry!
I'm very torn on how to feel about this game. I will just have to try it out for myself.
Looking at this game closer. Currently 17 years with Runescape.
That sounds about right. I get the feeling Brighter Shores will be more of a casual experience
It's one of them where I'll try it, mostly as a thanks to the RS creators, but... it looks rough, can't lie. They took the idea of 'tilesets' too literally.
i think a big part of this game's success will be based on how easy it is for the developers to add to it.
How do you only have 99 subs? Take my 100th sub! You deserve more!
Wow, thanks a ton for the 100th sub! 🎉 Your support means a lot. I took a screenshot of your kind words for reference and memory of the milestone. More content is coming your way! Thank you, again!
I was sent here from RubeusCubeus! Good video!
@@powerman2442 I just watched it! Thank you!
i hope so. ive only recently got into MMOs, so id love for something new to come out that i can experience from the beginning
This game will help them test the waters. Some of you guys expect it to be as in depth as runescape. Maybe it can be but idk if it will reach that kind of scale
I think the game will be more of a casual experience. Something you come back to when new story content or quests are released imo.
i feel like runescape was at the right place at the right time and thats why it it became so successful. its gonna be very difficult to get a similar fan base
Im excited for it and ready to get enveloped into the story.
Me too! I’m really trying to not overhype it though…just ready to play it 😂
I will absolutely be giving this game a shot even tho i don't think it will directly compete with runescape.
I usually focus on one MMO and play it for a month or two before hopping to another and adding this to the pool of options will definitely freshen things up.
The thing is tho that competing side to side with OSRS is an *incredibly* difficult thing to do and i would much *much* rather see a new game with a fresh take doing its own things in its own ways, and only really sharing the design philosophy at its core
There's space for more than one MMO and variety is king~
I really hope it turns out to be good, but I won’t have my expectations set too high. It’s going to be hard to beat out their former creation that’s been going strong for decades at this point with an endless variety of content and depth to their otherwise simple game mechanics.
As a RuneScape lifer. 2002. I will certainly give Gowers game a try. Will it pull me away from RuneScape. Definitely not, but if it’s like RuneScape I can just multi monitor it lol
@@tigerjr38 very true! But I understand. A lot of history there!
@@redrepublic5557 yeah mobile support is pretty much mandatory anymore. Only time will tell, I’m certainly excited to give it a go.
This game will succeed if it manages to keep the OSRS combat philosophy of safe spotting, multitasking threats, and some analogue to prayer switching, while doing away with the absurd grinds for skills and having excellent quests. It should have a larger focus on dungeons, raids, and bosses.
I’m really hoping for at least dungeon content
Congrats on the view to subscriber ratio. Ignore the haters about the script its totally fine.
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
@@Mezigoto Absolutely fair.
Beyond excited been playing rs since classic so I can't wait to see what comes of this.
That’s awesome! I hope it’s an enjoyable experience for all of us!
Idc if there’s a new RuneScape. I spend ungodly hours and did unspeakable things to max my RuneScape character and I will never repeat those days.
I hear ya!
Bruh all you did was click a mouse. Relax a bit little bro.
i just hope they wont gatekeep 90% of the content behind a subscription based model.
They're already doing so going by what they said in the video
Yeah, sadly it looks like about 80% of the content will be behind the paywall or sub model. Especially since you need to go into the Mines of Mantuban to progress one of the chapters.
@@sechmascm I don't think the game will survive with a subscription based model in today's age
Oh no, not a development tram trying to make money off a product they spent almost a decade on. Are you dumb?
Gower never learned new coding tricks. He's tile-based for life.
Brighter Shores will definitely not be "huge" for a long time. The roadmap makes it clear it will be a very small game for the first couple years.
I'm gonna play the shit out of this game. I've been playing runescape since 2002ish, and I will play anything Andrew Gower puts out
Heck ya!!
"unique point and click gameplay" my brother in Christ....
🤣
Defo gonna try it when it releases but osrs is my childhood wont compete with it
As someone who has nerve damage I their shoulder which is trigger by gaming mice I rlly hope this is coming to mobile loke osrs
I can’t wait to play this at the same time as osrs
I wonder how much the premium will cost. If it's cheaper than OSRS, I'm in!
Runescape was though a clear copy from Ultima Online, but made the game more playable without limits on how you level your character.
Definitely. I still wish I had the chance to play ultima, or at least knew of it’s existence earlier
@@Mezigoto Personally, having level limit means you can't 99 on all skills. So the game was considerably more brutal. I wonder if there are osrs mods that would give out that ultima online feel by restricting your levels.
I dont really like the room bit, but I'm still willing to give it a try!
People who hate the room system don't play games like Zelda. This gives me a diorama vibe and I like it (:
@@NanomachineExE I think it’s more of the comparison to RS than anything. It’s not directly linked to the rooms system itself. It’s easy to not like something when comparing to something people really care about. I knew this topic would cause discussion, but not like this 😂
Looks interesting to me I’ll try it
Only because I still play RuneScape today I’ll try this game. It doesn’t look like ima enjoy it though
Idk why everyone is talking about this game but not about the only thing that matters, how will they stop bothers and scammers in a game like this? If they solve this then im sure the game will have a BRIGHTER future
only problem with this game is that i still need to complete the first one before i try it
@@pickyou223 like RS3, or OSRS? By completion do you mean full 99 skills and all completed quests?
@@Mezigoto both - collection log (as a joke) but fr max capes
Where are the new standards for the graphics?
Great vid, keep up the good work! 😊
Thank you! It means a lot! 🙏🏻
f2p with trade restricted is what osrs should have done YEARS ago, it would cull the amount of botting by a ton.
yes droptrading is still a thing but easily counterable. just make the loot disappear when dropped by f2p player (yes u can still trade by dying in wildy)
Nostalgia is a. Hell of a. Drug.
@@derpfrog5625 the worst and the best all at the same time
Great video, subbed and liked.
This is a game I will try, for sure.
I really appreciate your kind words and support! It means a lot! I hope it's good, and can't wait to play it myself.
Lmao I loved the I know it’s Q3 but that gives us till September 😂 Way to stay positive I’ll check it out but the room system might turn me off to it
I think it will ultimately get pushed back. I’m a little worried about the room system as well, but trying to hold opinions until I get my hands on the game!
Room system looks stupid, don't like seeing dark fog/sht visuals at the edge of my screen in place for "performance", this is 2024 we literally have the tech to not be doing this.
It’s a design choice not a technology restriction lol
Im instantly bothered by the tile terrain.
Those capes are sick
Yeah, it’s one of the things I’m excited for. I’m curious on how you unlock each tier
We want to play now ! XD
Absolutely!
The worst thing that could happen to this game is the entire player base having the expectation that it's going to replace runescape
Hmm looks good but also looks so similar to Albion Online with those names and graphics while Albion has already had many updates and long grind times. I will be interested how this game will play out though
Are the rooms their take on server meshing?
Yeah, it definitely appears that way. Hopefully it feels okay in gameplay.
I'm definitely going to try it but I honestly hate voxel art styles like this so it might not be for me.
Looks like Runescape and Sims had a baby and I am not here for it.
This is one of the funniest comments I have seen on this video, and now I can’t unsee it. Thank you! 😂
Why would someone make a game to fill a gap that doesn’t exist? Both versions of live RuneScape are so good that there’s just no reason to have another iteration.
I really dislike the Tile / Cube flooring, but otherwise it looks alright
rooms system is cool but I have concerns just based on seeing it. The visible tiles and the visible small rooms really take me out of the game and bother me. Could feel different when played I'm just going off the visual. Also I need to see a reason to play this over runescape which I guess time will tell.
The experience of time must be subjective if you expect me to believe they “quickly” released Old School 😭
I mean, the EoC released in November of 2012, and OSRS released in February 2013. That is a 3 month turn out. That’s pretty quick 😂
No game will ever be like old school RuneScape. I still pk and do last man standing.
If they can make another mmorpg with quests on the same level as Runescape then they will have success
Agreed. Questing in RS is some of the best that the genre has ever seen IMO.
the name made me think this was going to be purely pirate themed, I would play the hell out of a 100% pirate themed runescape
Looks decent but i dont like the square tiles
Its whole world dungeoneering
I didn’t think about it that way. I can definitely see it with the whole fog of war map, markers, and rooms.
Yeah, except the rooms aren't randomized.
As long as it doesn't have athletics skill, I'm playing.
One big thing that people will absolutely hate is that every clip of this game shows tons of black background completely ruining the vibe. If they don’t change that the game dies. Seems small but it’s not because you feel so trapped on the map and not showing the world. Having that background is horrendous.
I wish I could get excited about this game but there's a few things that make it a turn-off for me:
1) Classes are artificial barriers to playstyle.
Yall putting ALOT of pressure on a retirement project
Pressure? Nah, we’re just trying to turn this retirement project into a blockbuster sequel!
In all seriousness. I get what you mean. I just hope for a new experience. If it fails, at least we still have RS!
