Awesome comparison I hope you can make more videos about these amazing shaders and what they look like in an actual Minecraft world environment. Thumbs up and thanks for the content 😊👍
Complimentary Reimagined is my favorite shader. It's the one I've been looking for! Rather than just improving the visuals, it's aim is to add onto the Minecraft Style! I especially like how simple yet beautiful the water is in it! And the clouds still being Blocky, but just redesigned is also one of my favorite parts of both shaders! Nostalgia definitely looks just as good, but it isn't the exact Style I'm looking for. But both do what I've wanted out of a Shader!
@@fabienpath there is water like that in complimentary reimagined! in the shader settings, then materials, then there should be something about water somewhere!
I wish I could put certain parts of nostalgia on to complementary, like the way the lighting on the house was off onto complementary, but not the rest of nostalgia
This is such a good comparison, You can see the specialties between this shaders. personally I like the Complementary cause it's too simple. then Nostalgia hit it too. Nostalgia has a great lightning than Complementary but I think on atmospheric ambience, Nostalgia made it way too much.
brilliant choice of shaders to compare, also alpha is such an underatted minecraft song! most likely because people always skip the credits after beating the dragon.
in terms of lighting, Complementary Reimagined will never beat Nostalgia since it has Screen Space Path Tracing (SSPT which is disabled by default but can be enabled in settings along with SVGF filter) which allows light to bounce around as shown in 1:11 which Complementary will never have since it is very performance intensive and also because the author said so.
@@rainbowflash5937 You can turn it on inside the game, once you do so, the game will create a .txt config file in the .minecraft/shaderpacks folder where it lists everything you have changed from the default settings. If you use Nostalgia v4.0a and change a setting, the game will create a folder in the same folder where the shader .zip is. Its name will be Nostalgia v4.0a.zip.txt and inside it will say the date you applied the settings and what settings where changed, so for example: #Fri Oct 08 10:34:47 [timezone] 2022 cloudVolume1Clip=1200 ssptEmissionMode=1 blocklightBaseTemp=3000 pomEnabled=true fogDensityMult=1.2 motionblurToggle=false bloomIntensity=0.7 vignetteIntensity=0.60 motionblurScale=0.5 resourcepackReflectionsEnabled=true fogStart=0.5 (those are some of the things I changed)
Nostalgia preserves vanilla's color balance better, but complimentary has much more visual clarity, except when it comes to transparent things like water and glass. Though I think water has been changed a bit in complimentary since this recording.
im in love with complementary reimagined and for having such good customization options and compatibility as well as just great visual enhancements, it still runs very well on almost every device i try it on, even the low-end ones. perfect shader
Really like nostalgia but it currently isn't supported by the iris mod and there is nothing letting me go back to optifine. The performance from sodium + other mods is just way better for me (lets say 40+ more frames with sodium) and the open source aspect also speaks much more to me than the closed source of optifine.
@@sussybaka9756 That's very subjective. I got an RTX card recently to try it out. The way the lighting and reflections work is cool, but the aesthetic and atmosphere is just awful. I'm not sure what it is, but the visuals in some scenarios are just ugly. I'd much rather use one of the Java shaders shown in this video.
Nostalgia definitely can look gorgeous, I reckon, but the colour and contrast is just so much nicer on Reimagined. Everything simultaneously pops _more_ and looks closer to the game's actual art style most of the time. There are exceptions, of course. I like some parts of Nostalgia though, like the much more deeply saturated blue nights are pretty nice-- and I do like how there's still a lot of pink in the sky and bouncing around the environment as the moon rises. That scene at the end was a great showcase of the SSPT stuff people are talking about, it absolutely looks great _there..._ But realism isn't all that pretty, I don't think. Like, yeah, it makes more sense to have the green from the leaves of the trees and the grass to bounce back into nearby shadows, but green shadows are pretty ugly, honestly. Aside from that ONE shot at the end, I didn't see anything that convinced me the feature added much to your overall experience; it mostly just made things look slightly muddy, less contrasting, from what I could tell.
I'm having so much trouble picking which one I like more... Complementary has better lighting in the large open outdoor areas with no trees, and better block reflectivity to make it look like a vanilla+ game, but the light play in Nostalgia is freaking ridiculously good, looks like Minecraft the movie rather than vanilla plus lol... I'm downloading Nostalgia in hopes that it has the same reflectivity options that reimagined has. Both are great though, the multi layer clouds are the biggest game changer imho. Thanks for showcasing!
I just wish there was a mix of the two. Complimentary reimagined looks better to me when it comes to day time and surfaces such as the top of the water still being minecraft but Nostalgia looks better underwater/underground with how the light behaves with the waterfall in the cave scene or just how the darkness contrasts with the surface light. The only downside with nostalgia being the fog in the caves which complimentary reimagined does cave depth better. I feel like if they were combined into one you could get the ultimate Minecraft shader. Also complimentary reimagined does vanilla nether and vanilla end better as well as snowy scenes in general including night time snowy scenes.
Hopefully as complimentary reimagined updates it will have a wider range of customisation allowing the indoor areas to look as good as noglostia or however u spell it
I am not a fan of complimentary reimagined. it doesn't have the options that complimentary has. With just complimentary you can make that shader pack to literally anything, anyway you want. I tried messing around with reimagined and I just didn't like it; it is basically complimentary shaders, set to potato mode, but without the option to change it.
The problem with nostalgia is that materials have little to no properties in comparison to reimagined, but everything else In nostalgia is better in my eyes other than the lack of bounce light and the water texture which also looks better in reimagined
Imo Nostalgia looks a lot better in some cases but as complementary reimagined is more "vanilla plus" as in it isnt distracting or possibly make the game harder like the fog in nostalgia in the nether is just way too much
Complementary for me is the better pick, it doesn’t trample on the original visuals of the game, but is still able to make them re-imagined, like the name says.
I wanted to compare these since they are the most similar without path tracing involved. and it also wouldnt be the best look for Nostalgia VX to visually see the frame drops 😅 as that shader is still in progress.
Honestly, everything about Complementary Reimagined looks nicer except underwater, it looks too clear and could use some more clouding, otherwise they look great
Which shader do you like more? 🤔 Also probably last video for awhile on these shaders, 3 in a row… 🫠

And yet I find comlemetary much more atmospheric.

I like it because it looks like minecraft Rtx a little bit.

I mean, if it's anything like most shaders, you could probably hop in the settings, reduce volumetric fog and change the color palette a little.

I still think dark places that get hit by a small lightshaft should have more bloom in Complementary
Wait. Is that a setting inside the normal shader configuration menu inside Minecraft or outside inside an options file.

does normal complementary have SSPT
Nostalgia has bright fog underground? It looks more mysterious but doesn’t make much sense from a lighting perspective.
Will be fixed in the newest update.
Nostalgia preserves vanilla's color balance better, but complimentary has much more visual clarity, except when it comes to transparent things like water and glass. Though I think water has been changed a bit in complimentary since this recording.
the use of ssr in complimentary reimagined is phenomenal
TheEnd→ComplementaryRemagined
Lava,etc...→Nostalgia
BSL , Complementary Reimagined , Nostalgia , Super Duper Vanilla . The best squad of shaders ever . ..
My favorite has still got to be reimagined! It has that dreamy like atmostphere, kind of similar to what you’d find in BSL shader pack! Awesome!

nostalgia is better for cinematics scenes

My fav is sildurs vibrant shaders extreme. I just wish It had pbr and cloud customization like complimentary reimagined
Did you make any adjustments on the settings for the complementary shaders?
I enabled double cloud layers & cloud shadows!
I adore look of nostalgia, but the optimisation (light leaks in caves and too bright nether and ancient cities) make it unusable for mining
complementary reimagined is without a doubt the best shader in all of minecraft and you cannot change my mind
