The reason Kim stood up and intervened in that moment is because Jimmy said "you want the money back? Go ahead, it's in a bag in the room". You can see Kim looking towards the bedroom. She knows Jimmy left his coffee cup with the bullet hole in it in the bag. As soon as Lalo saw that he'd know that Jimmy was lying.
I think that Lalo already knows Jimmy is a liar. He lied to a judge to get Lalo his $7 million bail by telling him about a made-up family that Lalo didn't even know. This is also why Lalo has Jimmy repeat the story multiple times. He's hoping that Jimmy "slips". Once Kim intervenes, he has a newfound respect for her. After all, Lalo already told Jimmy that being with her was pretty much an 'upgrade'. Lalo experienced Kim for the first time and she didn't disappoint.
Early in S3 of Breaking Bad, when Mike wanted Gus to tell Walt that Gus was the only person keeping him from getting killed by the cousins, Gus said he didn't think fear was a good motivator, which he rejects as an argument from Mike, here. So, something must've changed his mind between this episode and that one.
That movie is an absolute favorite from that era, They made really good rom-coms before the term was invented. They managed to make the romance funny and the humour romantic. The dialogue written and the way the actors are delivering is outstanding.
Both shows have leaned on superhero motifs from the beginning - there are several in Breaking Bad, but IMO two of the standouts are: When the jocks are making fun of Flynn trying on pants in the store, meek Walter ducks out the back door, then comes in the front and F's one of them up, the same thing you see in 1000 superhero comics where someone's robbing a store and the hero ducks out the back to change ID and then comes in from the front in full costume. The whole "I am the Danger" speech. Walt starts out the scene fully dressed up like Clark Kent and literally changes costume into Heisenberg while talking with Skyler. One of the reasons is that the Superhero genre and these shows both lean heavily on the concept of identity. Walt, Jimmy, Hank, Walter. Jr., Marie, Gus, Jesse, Kim, and several other more minor characters all have their major arcs about trying to figure out who they are as people. You could make a whole episode just consisting of the amount of times that characters use fake names, and the significance of those names to the characters ("Say my Name" "It's all good, man!" "My name is ASAC Schrader...", or even Walt Jr. becoming Flynn).

Yeah, BUT... the problem wasn't with the clean-up as Elie suggested. The problem was with the STORY. The car was in the ditch, so why would Jimmy have dumped it there if he claims it just broke down? And if the crew had hauled the car away, Lalo would still be suspicious because, well, where's the car? Jimmy should have said he crashed the car into a ditch.

Its so funny what you mentioned about superhero stories and going just a little bit outside of the normal human ability cuz its so subtle but its there a little element of the supernatural. When gus just sensed something was up when walt tried to bomb his car, when lalo jumped up through the roof at travel wire so quick and landed like a superhero with the gun out and when he jumped onto the Esteem in this episode. Also walt just having massive good luck throughout breaking bad remember when he was in the car on the last episode and the keys just happened to be in the overhead mirror area? Maybe being a criminal gives you super powers lol
First time watching, from the moment Lalo knocked at the door until the moment the credits rolled, I was CERTAIN we were about to see Kim die and I just completely Lost My Shit. It’s still terrifying to watch, Lalo is a straight up horror movie villain here!
I'm glad you enjoyed the concert. One of the best things life has to offer. That showdown with Kim and Lalo may be my favorite moment of the whole BCS universe.
I remember when this episode aired, and I'm sure a lot of us watched it with a sense of dread thinking that this was going to be Kim's "Death Episode", especially when Lalo showed up at their place. Afterwards, we remembered that there are still 14 episodes left!
excellent episode, my top 3 episodes, excellent for Kim's character and the last scene is a peak of suspense and tension and one of the best of the show

Slight spoiler if you haven't seen "Plan and Execution" from next season: First time watching this episode I thought "Oh, this is why there is no Kim in BB. Lalo is going to kill someone in this room." When re-watching it I thought "This is when someone else shows up and gets killed." My memory plays tricks on me that makes this show nerve wrecking on a second watch too.
Yeah actually the "anyone is taking a shot at it" is pretty true here in the American West. On those rural BLM land if there is a abandoned large object like that someone uses it for target practice or pyrotechnics etc.
