Advanced SCT Collimation - Hotech Collimator

- In this episode of 'Lessons Learned' I address the problems I've had with my Meade SCT and poor focus. In most cases this is due to poor collimation of the mirrors. Standard (read inexpensive) laser collimation only addresses the secondary mirror and the visual back- completely ignoring the primary mirror and the centering of the secondary mirror on the corrector plate/spider.
The Hotech Advanced SC Collimator is the answer to this problem- using this device, I was able to collimate with precision, lining up the visual back, secondary mirror and centering the secondary mirror on the primary. The result was I was able to improve my focus from a dismal 4.0 HFR to a crisp 2.5.

This is a VERY complex and intimidating process. Is there anything that can be done to make this easier?
Actually it isn’t that bad and the results are amazing. It is much easier if your secondary can be removed (edge fast star)
@@ShamrockBanksObservatory I have an EDGE HD8 and to be honest, I'm scared sh*tless to do anything with the primary mirror and corrector plate.
@@Safestassets don't blame you. can you remove the secondary by unscrewing the retaining collar (faststar system). If so, you can't mess it up
Yeah don’t do this. Terrible idea. So many better ways to collimate
I would love to see a pencil move across that field instead of your hand just to see if your image is getting Schilerin type air currents, not heat.
