เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 มี.ค. 2020
Shamrock Banks Observatory is based in N. Michigan and is run by Bob the Science Guy from TH-cam. It is an official observatory of the Minor Planet Center at Harvard and does research on Comets, Asteroids and Near Earth Objects.
We live stream a variety of telescopes and provide instructional videos on all aspects of astronomy, earth science, navigation and mathematics.

Aurora and the ISS
We are experiencing a massive geomagnetic storm and the aurora is being seen as far south as Florida. The show in Michigan was amazing. This was a live view of the aurora and a pass of the ISS using my iPhone.

Can you help me with collimating my 8”RC? It was dropped by FedEx and I’m unable get it back in collimation. I used your video and even the same laser. Is their any way you could help me? Thank you.
Unless you are local to Michigan, no I can't help you do the collimation. I use a special collimator to do my RC as you need to align the draw tube to the primary then align the secondary to the primary. There are other ways to do it, for example th-cam.com/video/vxviegvQns8/w-d-xo.html is a good playlist. You may need to order a tilt plate as well.
Thank you sir for your uploads. Showing me a world that I want to be a part of. :)
Welcome aboard!
You should consider becoming a patreon- we have a major upgrade coming and you can support that effort
Very nice! How would you go about collimating the secondary during the star test?
you use the collimation screws on the back of the secondary mirror. There are three of them generally and they use hex heads or something called 'Bob's Knobs' to adjust by hand.
@@ShamrockBanksObservatory Thank you for your answer. I meant with regards to the image on the computer. Can we use the out of focus ring to collimate the secondary mirror as we do with the primary?
absolutely
@ could we get a video explaining how??

I was wondering if you could offer an opinion. My astro club is trying to set up a remote telescope and I know you have some experience with that. We want to use CPWI to control the scope because it is compatible with the Celestron CGE mount. But I am beginning to wonder whether that will be possible. How do you go about remotely aligning a scope? So far, I have been aligning the scope manually with CPWI. Then, once it is aligned, I can turn it over to a remote session via anydesk. But I can't imagine how anyone could align it from scratch remotely. With your setup, can you align it remotely, or do you have to be physically present with the scope initially?
You don’t align it remotely. That is part of the initial set up of the scope. Then you do it periodically as circumstances allow. My alignment holds for a few weeks. Recall that minor errors in alignment can be handled with guiding.
Dr.bob.420.mmj. At g mail send me a note and we can exchange numbers and chat
@@ShamrockBanksObservatory Ok, Thank you. We have a guide scope but don't have the proper mount for it yet. So we haven't been able to play with guiding yet. But that was the piece I was missing. Hope you caught the comet!
Great run down Bob
Thank you. You can remove the secondary from the edge 14 and collimate it easily. You should get one
That 2 minute sub of M31 made me miss having an OSC or DSLR.
slept through my alarm to watch and it seems it was cloudy anyway. thanks for this excellent observation.
Happy for you! My sky got misty, nothing visible.
Cloudy here in WA.
It is amazing how small and insignicant we are. Totally humbling to know we are ants... no bacteria... no viruses on a cosmic scale...
Very nice work.
Awesomely beautiful! And terrifying, realizing some of those solar flares are as large or larger than Earth.
They extend out 6-8 earth diameters
Great images with the new camera. Thanks for sharing the first light.
Did you watch the launch of Polaris Dawn mission?
No
Hi Bob just looked in for a moment lets hope you Catch it when it flares?
Very helpful. Thanks!!!
I guess the real question is whether the asteroid is coming for us?!
yep
Apologies if i missed it but why do it twice? why do it without your image train only to have to re-do it after adding that gear? Thanks for the video!
just to make sure it is still right.
