You can find the new kind of traveler right here on TH-cam. It's estimated that as many as 3 million people in the US now live on the road. Their home is literally on their back. There are really some inventive ideas on how to live/travel now. Most people live in standard RV's and motor homes. And these people stay in one place until they get tired of it and then move on. You can rent spaces in mobile parks and such. They are a new breed, once again.
I remember that police attack on women and new born babies. May those officers answer on judgement day. It must of boosted their grossly oversized ego,s.
Hardworking people just trying to get by in a world of crooks. May be judgemental but do you notice how ugly the police officers and council are? And though the traveller may not be the 'cleanest' or 'neatly dressed' they're full of life n bleddy good looking. The inside shows out
Really liked this documentary. I'm sure I know some of folk who were living in Scotland. Forgot their names but know the faces. If this film crew is still together you should think of coming to Scotland and make a film of Scotland's path to becoming an independent nation as this is about to happen soon.
The police and upper classes were already well on the way to bullying and stereotyping those that won't conform out of existence by this point, my parents lived on travellers sites up until the early 80's, I tried doing it in the early 2000's but you spend most of your time in conflict with police and everyone is paranoid and sketchy as fuck, I cycled to Switzerland a couple of years ago and met a fair few travellers and you could tell they weren't as hated and bullied, they were all much more relaxed and you could tell they weren't all burnt out and exhausted as many people trying to live a similar life in the UK are.
I can remember trying to get a place on one of the leominster sites back in the early nineties but they had a list of rules a mile long and wernt the most welcoming of people a group of us used to do quite well by moving onto the carparks and grounds of recently closed country pubs as around this time lots of them were closing and most times the police would put it to the owners to apply for eviction order and we came across a few owners who if you left the building alone would leave you there until they got planning to do something with it good times

Yeah - there were plenty of rich kids and young people from middle class and upper middle class backgrounds plenty of graduates, kind of playing at being oppressed. Alongside the older traveller festival tyoes who’d been doing it from the free festivals of the 70s. This was mixed with the real marginalised people rejected by neoliberal society, ex-cons, ex squaddies, people unable to find work, people on the run from the law, those struggling with severe mental illness and with drug and alcohol problems as well as those fleeing personal problems and disappearing into drugs and alcohol - and the committed hedonists who just wanted to be off their heads 24/7. It was kind of an odd mix - usually all got on and sometimes not, the ‘brew crew’ always raised tensions.

Good lord .... the idea that the authorities in fort William at the times main concern was that these travellers would be landing in the town , supplying the local youth with drugs is just hilarious 😂. There is either a severe amount of delusion on the authorities part going on there or they are trying their hand at humour but let’s be honest here it seems to be that more the case that the fort William authorities are exploiting the situation in their home town and are making scapegoats out of the travellers for the drug problem that was more than prevalent there ...... the idea that new age travellers go to fort William to supply the youth and locals with drugs and moral corruption, possibly even inspire them to not wash is just too much to take . I mean really ?!? He sounds childish and terribly informed by the local media at the time . Fort William has had a drug problem there looooong before the arrival of these New Age travellers . What on earth did they buy from the travellers at the time ? magic mushrooms that already have been growing in abundance in the area for centuries ? home brew ? A pirate cassette of an Ozerik Tentacles gig ?😆...... if there was any king of drug deals going down back then I would think that it’s more than likely the travellers were scoring from the locals and it wasn’t mushrooms . Interesting documentary tho and of course there are always many sides to any given story especially this one . The film feels like it was really just beginning to warm up .
My issue is that they have no real philosophy to an alternative lifestyle. '' we wanna libe man'' and ''we wanna be free man'' are signs of not fitting into the system but what's a realistic solution?

Nowadays this is classed as VANLIFE. Not as frowned upon and more accepted as the cool thing to do. What has changed really? Some Vanlifers having either sold up their properties and live from the money of that and some just seem to be young and privileged. A small percentage that make a living via TH-cam and perhaps some who find work on their travels.

@@Spirit-Of-The-Age i was at peace haven ?? in a tk bus watching outside my window a group of brutal paid thugs who were smashing up hawk wind Dave Brok bus and i was offered birthday cake while patrolling ny bus with my doberman BOD had to watch this Beautifull bus be carved up with chainsaws as our diesel had been syphoned out the previous few nights back/could not get out of there fast enough/// great days mixed in with nightmare situations.but our spirits were high and hearts were pure/ never again will we see the likes of people and buses that made those days magical, surrounded by the evil gnomes i called the Babylon barbarians// Thatcher's government were brutal towards us at times//x2022 wish i could live like that again i was so much happier but now my knees could not keep up with getting the firewood fk old age x 2022 love to all who made thoses times rock fk we had the best of times miss it badly xxx
@@racheldoesacrylic4089 absolutely...different times (pre mobile phones and PC's etc🙂) .....I myself went to an off grid community and that ended up becoming a bit of a safe haven for a good while to many on buses etc too, who'd been targeted by the UK gov thugs (met so many amazing and wholesome folk...and a few that were dodgy..but I reckon they were 'UK gov' undercover plants trying to stick a spanner in the works👀) ,........Many folk ended up escaping to Ireland, Portugal etc....The struggle goes on for me as I'm back in Scotland now fighting the UK system as a Scottish Independence activist but also involved in positive eco activism too (as both fights go hand in hand) ..Scottish Indy should finally be happening soon , and it will not only help free Scotland of the corrupt UK system / establishment, it'll also act as a badly needed catalyst for complete political reform in England and Wales too......So the battle continues on (a bit like the Led Zep song The Battle Of Evermore🙏💪🌎🍀🌱🌲) ...I do believe we are on the verge of a positive revolution and we are now seeing that corrupt UK system / establishment (which has always been run by a psychopathic, selfish ruling class) on it's last legs and death throes) ..the whole Peace Convoy movement and free festival scene may have not fully lasted forever back then , but it was hugey important to and sowed many seeds that are coming to bear fruit now .😎🌳🌱🌎 Community is returning and the green technology is here to help people live a more egalitarian life, and one whereby we can source the things we need more locally without wrecking Mother Nature in the process. We can all learn a lot from Nordic countries (Iceland have done amazing things since the World Banking Robbery of 2008 onwards as have other Nordic countries with progressive and sustainable policies and enpowering local councils / communities as much as possible etc..and we can all keep learning too from indigenous peoples' too.🍀💚💙✌✊🙏😎

8:30 You know. You know. You know. You know. No. No I don’t know…
My issue is that they have no real philosophy to an alternative lifestyle. '' we wanna libe man'' and ''we wanna be free man'' are signs of not fitting into the system but what's a realistic solution?
Could they be anti social?
They were a great gang of geezers and gals
Rebelling against the council house they currently reside in.

I think i know what u mean...i am a traveller....i live in a ford transit smiley horsebox it has mold and gaps where wind blows through...i used to cover the matress with a tarp because when i got back from work the condensation would soak the bed through lol....then i got a burner so there were less drips...anyway as i was saying ive met other people who have vans and go away for a few days or weeks maybe even a month at a time in them...new shiny expensive they have second homes they rent out sorry i got bored towards the end of writing this basically van lifers are different from us travellers....enjoy
I do hope Edward came to terms with his heroin addiction, it's hard to film and take heroin at the same time. Also, he still owes me twenty two pounds.

total repression from government ..
It’s muddy and ugly. And I bet they have the same hassles , in a way, in the corporate world. Cheating, lies, selfish people, but I don’t have a solution. Go to a better climate.
Machines did away with the fruit and hop picking etc and cheap foreign labour now post brexit they cant get enough of the foreign labour anymore lots of travellers were very hard working
35:35 "We are deserving people like". Wtf they chose to live like that he is perfectly fit and healthy and all he wants is money for him self. He needs to get a job and help out. Just proves they are scroungers.
Sean Doherty they getting thousands to make the film, they asking for a bit in return for being the subject matter.

No good documentary - didn’t really learn anything
it's people's lives, they don't owe you anything. the documentary format isn't just about creating explicit educational source material. if you can't muster up some empathy that's your issue
If you didn't learn anything then the failure is within you, not this documentary.
