Robin DiAngelo, the author of White Fragility, is a white woman Okay some of my recent favorites are I'm Still Here by Austin Channing Brown, Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, and The Boy in the Black Suit by Jason Reynolds! (honestly anything by him!)
Yes! You are so right! When I was talking I was thinking of White Fragility when I said White Rage. The titles are so similar that I mixed them up but thanks for pointing that out. Also thanks for the recs. I definitely love Jason Reynolds. I haven’t read a book by him that I haven’t liked.

this is the first time I'm hearing about Punching The Air but it sounds soooo good, I'm putting it at the top of my list for the next time I buy new books! I also just bought Clap When You Land and The Vanishing Half and I can't wait to read them, I've heard nothing but incredible things about both of them for months now.
Thanks for the recommendations. I think one also worth reading for your historical section is called Stamped:Racism, Antiracism and You by Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds . It is a very easy read and entertaining. He ( Reynolds) calls it a remix version .It centers of the evolution of racism broken into simplistic terms and includes recommended reading list . Definitely a must for anyone without knowledge and those seeking more knowledge on the historical inception of racism. Controversial also some school systems are petitioning to ban it. So it must be good.

All great books! I have quite a few of them on my tbr. Have you ever read A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry? It's a play, but it's one of my all time favorites (I dream of seeing it onstage someday)

My tbr for February so far is When the Reckoning Comes LaTanya McQueen (the audio is stunning), Don't Cry for Me Daniel Black, and Razorblade Tears S.A. Crosby. I didn't intend for my reading this month to be so..sad. I need Black joy stories.
✊ I have seen Punching the Air everywhere but wasn't sure if it was something I would like - but you definitely make it sound interesting. I'll have to check it out. And The New Jim Crow - my husband and I watched 13 last year and it was really eye-opening. This year I read Legendborn, and really enjoyed that, and I loved Genesis Begins Again - so heartbreaking and so powerful. I really want to get to The Vanishing Half and probably The Mothers as well. Maybe I'll read The Mother's first lol.
And I also agree with the lack of black Muslim representation, we deserve better representation 😤
