I have dual citizenship but raised and lived mostly in Canada some years in Boston I was shocked I couldn’t ever find blue rodeo or tragically hip CDs there our northern lights hehe it’s what we call our famous ppl eh 😆do luv Maine well New England
Jean Marc, the lead singer, was on Behind the Vinyl talking about the song. It was actually commissioned by the society to fight leukemia for kids. He talks about it here and provides some great info about the song th-cam.com/video/jJJ-iFZ2UqI/w-d-xo.html
WHAT A GREAT CATCHY SONG THAT HAS WELL STOOD THE TEST OF TIME,SASS JORDAN ADDS SO MUCH TO THE VIDEO WITH HER YOUTHFUL EXUBERANCE.THIS VIDEO SHOULD HAVE 10 MILLION VIEWS.
I saw Doug and the Slugs on Galiano Island in the 70s before they even became famous. The last Ferry left waaay before the Band finished so Doug and the Slugs must have spent the night on the Island.
This song doesn't grow old to me, it grows newer. It's fresher and more enjoyable with each passing year. Whatever happened to harmony, positive messages, and good ol' having fun?
I haven't seen or heard these songs for over 20 years. I've tried searching online but no sucess. Thank you!!! I saw these guys in Halifax in July 1990: they sounded just like you hear them here on TH-cam. The Box are truly a part of Canadian history and culture.
Turned 58 today. The ‘kids’ asked what my favourites were from back in the day….. This immediately came to mind and we CRANKED IT several times as we danced through the house. Good times! Merry Christmas from Canada ❤
I swear, when this virus mess is over, I am going to PLAY THIS AT FULL VOLUME to remind me of how valuable a GLOBAL LEVEL PLAYING FIELD actually is for us all - & how much we should ALL truly respect this moving forward. Until then, a HUGE VIRTUAL KUMBAYA BEAR HUG to everyone... be safe & play this tune for a quick smile in the interim..
Now that it's four years later since you posted your comment, I hope you had the opportunity to blast this at full volume as you wished. I just did! Take care everyone and rock on!!
We need this song now more then ever....wish they could bring it back so people could listen to the words....but still a cool tune...hope you had a good summer!! Enjoy the coming fall
Hey man, check out the band Frozen Ghost then. The song " Should I See " should fkn get you jakt up . And when you hear it you'll want to play it for every politician and news personality out there !
I have not heard this song in many years, and didn't know if I knew it until it started playing then just lifted my mood instantly. Such a great song even today.
The sweet, uplifting vocals from Sass Jordan and Marie Carmen give this happy tune a jingling , boogie dancing quality. Its absolutely fun! I am re-discovering "The Box" after loving all their music as a child- the artfulness of their style and the gentle lilt in Jean Marcs voice sort of feels Metis- Irish to me. Alot of their songs have a warm, but upbeat Canadian folk feel to them. So glad I have re-found them in 2021!!!
Just thinking that shorter female backup singer would go solo and blow everyone’s minds with her amazing vocals. And in THIS band, she is one of a VERY talented group of musicians.
Saw The Box (either Toronto or Hamilton-memory a bit fuzzy, may have been some alcohol-related amnesia 😂). As soon as the opening of this song, the energy in the concert just jacked right up. Everyone having a great time but you could just FEEL the anticipation from everyone wanting to hear “the backup singer”. And when SHE stepped forward and let’er rip, the place went wild!!! A star was born and Sas Jordan was her name 🥰. An incredible experience to this day.
Love the Box! I have seen Jean Marc and crew several times over the past few years and they still have it big time! Get out there guys and girls and support this awesome Canadian band! You won’t be disappointed!
Cool video filmed in Dominican Republic...we were there on holidays and saw them filming. The fort scenes are Puerto Plata and street shots are in Sosua...those kids were so excited to be in a music video!Sass Jordan on backup vocals went on to become Canada's greatest female rock singer....Sass rocks!
I think it's one of the greatest horrible songs of all time. I love it to pieces, but I don't think it'd sound any good at all without the nostalgia. It's pure 80s awful and it's gold.
The Box were hardcore new wavers when they first started out, but they mellowed as time went on. I mean, these are the dudes who once bragged about dancing on the grave of rock n roll! That's hardcore new wave right there.
A couple of decades too slow, but welcome to the experience! (Fan since their first album, back when it first came out.) Pity that their name makes searching for their videos so obscure.
I just discovered this song only lately despite growing up in the 80's. I wonder how I missed this. It is so upbeat and a really infectious tune. I love it. Definitely a great mood enhancer. If there is such a thing as a happiness pill, well, this is it!
Love it!!! Another gem from the 80’s… no better era of music than this period. It was a special and memorative time. If America can only find what it forgot!
I spent the spring semester of 1987 at McGill as a visiting student. This song always takes me back. I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to it if it received any airplay in the U.S.A. However, it was one of the only 8 or 9 songs on CHOM's painfully short playlist. Never mind it already being in heavy rotation on Much Music. I got to watch it every night of the week on every screen in Peel Pub. It eventually grew on me. I had no choice in the matter. :-)
lmao...good story..the song grew on me too but I grew up in the great white north so I heard it ALOT more. But who would think that the shorter of the 2 blonde back up singers, Sass Jordan, would surpass the Box in popularity....and music. She's closer to a Melissa Ethridge if you haven't heard her solo stuff. Check out the song Make You a Believer.
I’m a 2000’s kid, but this song makes me think of being alive when it came out driving down a neighborhood with friends and with a warm summer breeze blowing
J' ai fait le party la veille du jour de l' an 1987 avec Jean Marc et son band THE BOX au bar LE PASSEPORT, rue St- Denis, Montréal WE WERE CLOSE TOGETHER
I have been singing the chorus of this song at work a lot. Makes some guys laugh. Love seeing Sass Jordan and Matrine St.-Claire together. It's like a fantasy.
An amazing Canadian band. One of the best bands of the 80's...saw them in concert in a small venue in Cambridge Ontario in 86....fantastic show...Sass Jordon was singing back up for them then too!
I love this band ever since I saw them in concert in Ottawa in the 80's. I believe they deserved WAY more credit and recognition than what they had... rock on.
I Live in Grand Rapids, MI. and everytime I've visited Canada, it's been great! God Bless
Canada! May we always we good neighbors!
Tim ...I'm north of you and God Bless you for saying that.....America and her people like you are Number Uno! Love you guys...!
Tim Mit lets hope so friend !

Thank you
I wish all Americans were like you. God bless you, too, Tim.
This is so Canadian 80s perfection. The optimism is healing

Canadian I'm 55 and I remember this song and brings back so many great memories. And this was Real music compared to what they have today.
Almost 2025 and this never fails to bring smiles and happy memories.
I really liked The Box in the 80's, and I'm rediscovering this awesome song again in 2023!
I just love the way music videos were made in the 80's. You can't not love this tune.
theres just nothing better

Proud to be Canadian....
The Box and Doug & The Slugs are, in my opinion, the most under rated Canadian bands of all time.
I saw Doug and the Slugs on Galiano Island in the 70s before they even became famous. The last Ferry left waaay before the Band finished so Doug and the Slugs must have spent the night on the Island.
So many more. 84 40, Chilliwack, Gowan, the Spoons, The Arrows, Trooper, Red Rider, Prism, , Harlequin
54-40 ....
Fun bands ...
.... Ian Thornley is a God.

I STILL LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! (Your Friend from Grand Rapids, MI. USA) !!!
This song WAS SUMMER in the late-80's! The video STILL HOLDS UP today and the song STILL sounds as fresh as it was back then!
I swear, when this virus mess is over, I am going to PLAY THIS AT FULL VOLUME to remind me of how valuable a GLOBAL LEVEL PLAYING FIELD actually is for us all - & how much we should ALL truly respect this moving forward. Now that it's four years later since you posted your comment, I hope you had the opportunity to blast this at full volume as you wished. I just did! Take care everyone and rock on!!
I can’t describe how much I love this man’s vocals. I don’t know what it is.
Sass and Marie are two beautiful blondes, and the Box rocks, been a favorite of mine for over 25 years. Rock on, world.
Is that Marie Carmen with Sass in the video?
The Box got it right. It's up to all of us! The song is good, too. Blessings! "DON'T GIVE UP!!!"
saw these guys at the ontario place forum... charisma charisma charisma....awesome live!!
This is the song of the summer and I am 52 years old so there’s a lot of summers that this song is the song of the summer..... beginning now
We need this song now more then ever....wish they could bring it back so people could listen to the words....but still a cool tune...hope you had a good summer!! Enjoy the coming fall
This is the year 2020, and I'm loving this tune!
Hey man, check out the band Frozen Ghost then. The song " Should I See " should fkn get you jakt up . And when you hear it you'll want to play it for every politician and news personality out there !
I'm loving it in 2021
2022 ✌⚜
The anti-social distancing anthem! 😀
October 2023.
Killer tune to this day.
You know what?? My life really did kick ass in the 80's !!
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to All of My Canadian Friends all over Canada!!
Very fun Montreal band back in the day. This was a great CD. Magnifique!
Let's all smile together, and dance together listening to this..even if we have to be 6' apart. what a great song!
AHAUUMM!... AHAUUMM... I love the beginning of this song; I think of it when it comes to mind when I'm at work sometimes...! (:D !!)
Un groupe de chez nous...Le Québec!!! Salut Jean Marc et à ton groupe!
2021. Such an under appreciated group. Always loved their music.
I have not heard this song in many years, and didn't know if I knew it until it started playing then just lifted my mood instantly. Such a great song even today.
Saw The Box, pre-covid. Really good.
no shite, right on bro.
Love this band. I remember when they were performing at the late Bourbon Street in St-Sauveur, Qc. Just great memories, Merci la gang.
classic 80's Canadian pop rock. love it!
+Jamie Ford No need 2 think OUTSIDE da Box.There is NO box!!!!
A lot like Doug & the Slugs !😎👍🎶
A great song by an underrated band I had never heard of, they werent known in the UK at all.

@@ruthiemax3229 I love this! This is exactly what I was into in the eighties and still find amazing today! Playing it now with the speakers on!!!
Sass Jordan is in the video, but didn't sing on this track, from my understanding.
Martine St. Clair did the female vocals on Closer Together but didn't go on the video shoot so Sass Jordan did.
The two blonde female singers in the vid are Sass Jordan and Sylvie Daviau (not Marie-Carmen).
United we stand, divided we fall
Just thinking that shorter female backup singer would go solo and blow everyone’s minds with her amazing vocals. And in THIS band, she is one of a VERY talented group of musicians.
Yep!❤
Saw The Box (either Toronto or Hamilton-memory a bit fuzzy, may have been some alcohol-related amnesia 😂).

Most Classic 80's Music Video ever! Love the Steady-cam too. Thanks Marc...

One of the greatest, horribly under-rated songs of all time.......
Box Rocks!!!!
It was written originally for the leukemia foundation
Yes! indeed
I think it's one of the greatest horrible songs of all time. I love it to pieces, but I don't think it'd sound any good at all without the nostalgia. It's pure 80s awful and it's gold.
@@samhhaincat2703 lyrics still resonates today still just put USA vs whomever at the time...
I saw them in concert back in the late 80's - they were the opening act for Chris De Burgh and they put on a fabulous show.
At my company it is mandatory to sing all you want when great tune comes on the radio. But you better know the words that you sing 🎤
The Box were hardcore new wavers when they first started out, but they mellowed as time went on. I mean, these are the dudes who once bragged about dancing on the grave of rock n roll! That's hardcore new wave right there.
So that's what "Dancing on the Grave" was about! Thank you!
Finally saw The Box last summer (2019), now a fan!
A couple of decades too slow, but welcome to the experience! (Fan since their first album, back when it first came out.) Pity that their name makes searching for their videos so obscure.
Canadian music has got a lot of gems from the 80s but this one shines as one of the brightest.
That's the first time I'm listening to this.
Just by the look of the thumbnail I knew it would be great!
I always dug this song. This and Ordinary People.
Why can't we make good music like this anymore?
Time flies...brings me back to a more innocent time
Doesn't this song make you want to give an air hug??
Beautiful tune that represents a wonderful era! Thank you for sharing!

This song ALWAYS makes me happy!
Great Canadian music over the years if you just go back and think of the bands you will be shocked at what you hear!

Ahhhh...1987 at CFB St Jean as a young 2Lt...This song brings back the memories.
And it was at this moment in time that I fell in love with Sass Jordan! :)
A joyful community. The video really captures the spirit of this song. Great camera work.

my name is Jamie, this song always brought me closer to my parents when I was growing up in the 1908s.
0:15 A young Sass Jordan right there!
Thank you! I didn’t know which blond was her
My first date with my eventual wife was to see the Box at the Western Fair in London, Ontario in the late 80s. Divorced now but still a happy memory!
They all just look so dang happy!
I love this song as a kid, still do! Awesome!
Greatest video ever made
Dude had a great original voice.
I saw them play at Ottawa U in 1987. Great show and a great band!
Using this for my eighth grade grad slideshow, its so genius. Plus, the parents will probably appreciate some 80s music
One of the greatest Canadian pop songs ever!
The Box is it!!! Sass too!
FANTASTIC song ! A song with BOTH a MELODY.......and a MESSAGE ....NOT about BOOTY CALLS !!
I’m a 2000’s kid, but this song makes me think of being alive when it came out driving down a neighborhood with friends and with a warm summer breeze blowing
It was a magical time growing up in the 80s. 😊
I refer you to the TH-cam channels Genx Talks and the dadbod veteran.
this song rocks!!!!!
I'm Canadian! Why do I not know this band?Remember a couple songs from back in the day but never heard of The Box!Good tunes!
brings back wonderful memories
+anne marie Marchand Indeed. I made an extended version of Closer Together.
I love the box. Grew up watching them on Much Music. ♥️♥️ the good ole days
Never knew Sass Jordan is a support singer in this video!
Sass Jordan rocking the acid-washed jeans and green t-shirt teleported me right back to circa 1987!
and those two female singers are the best ever
I love this song. I just recently found it again, I remember my dad playing this in the car when I was a kid. I still remember most of the words
Saw them last week they still have it
Such a sweet sound of high school....very talented group of musicians. 80s rock!

A positive song for all to enjoy
Excellent song. And a very wise decision to start with the chorus.
LET'S UNITE THE WORLD WITH LIGHT LOVE PEACE
Sass Jordan et Martine St-Clair comme background vocals, c'est vraiment solide !
Woke up singing this Summer 2024!

Another great song with a positive message from the 1980's! What's not to like?
Us Gen X'S were lucky to Be in this Time!

Very underrated French Canadian band. I saw them twice in concert. GREAT!
Terrific. The Closer Together album really excelled. Enjoyable from start to finish.
