@@samuelmartinez2639, I ran the codes last night and got PO351, PO352 and PO353. Good news? certainly not but at least it's not a PO301 misfire code. Now, I tried purchasing a new coil pack but Autozone, Advance Auto and Oreillys all want over $240. That's a bit hard to swallow especially if the current codes are hiding some other underlying issue. So, there is a local u-pick junkyard with one 2011 prius in stock, I'm running there this morning and pulling the coils (hopefully they are available) and i suppose we will see.

Gotta say I had little hope of this working. Sunday my Prius starting knocking. 2012 with 170K miles on it. Monday I changed the spark plugs and cylinder one was wet. Error codP0301 Cylinder 1 misfire error. I went out and bought this stuff and put it in. First day did not work. Followed the instructions and was still banging every time I started the car up after half an hour. Did this a few times and drove around. The next day no more knocking in the morning. 3 days later no knocking. So far so good. When you put this in the reservoir it just sits an the bottom so I guess it takes a while to works its way into the Radiator. 4 days after putting it in the Reservoir I can still see it laying there. My radiator fluid is pink but this stuff is grey and I can see the grey about 1 inch thick on the bottom. Thanks for posting.

From what I understand, it’s a failing water pump that causes engine temps to rise enough to cause the gasket to fail, but not enough to trip the engine temp code. People who replace their water pump before 100k / before the gasket fails don’t have any issues in the future.

⚠️🚫ATTENTION 🚫⚠️ I watched another video where they actually did the head gasket, after someone had tried using the seal sauce that you showed. They reported that it does temporarily work, but the also clearly showed and demonstrated that the gasket seal sauce gets stuck and gunks up all the ports where the coolant flows. You can clearly see the gasket seal stuff hardened on the head gasket where it was leaking (where is temporarily fixed the issue), but you can also see it clogging holes where coolant flows around through your radiator and engine. You’ll need to replace radiator too if you use gasket sealer.

The product he is using has sodium silicate which is legit stuff. It hardens to a glass like substance when exposed to heat and can handle high temperatures and high psi.
Scotty Kilmer and other mechanics recommend using this stuff for head gaskets and it’s been used for decades for this purpose. I’ve read that it can last years. According to Scotty, it was used to destroy tanks because if you put it in oil it hardens around all the bearings, etc and seizes the engine. It was also famously used to destroy used cars during the Cash for Clunkers program.

I have seen the stop leak fix a head gasket for six months. Others claim longer. Obviously it has to be a very small leak and ideally has not caused overheating. Overheating will warp the aluminum heads compounding the problem. Sometimes the coolant will suck into the cylinder during a off period and causes issues since its incompressible. On Prius it is common on gen 3 engines, especially 2010-2015 along with oil burning. How is your car doing?

Question: did you use the whole bottle or only half?
I bought the same thing, followed the directions and according to the box with the coolant capacity of the car, it should only use a half bottle. Did it a little over a month ago on my 2012 Prius V. It fixed it, but last week I noticed the check engine light flashing when I was accelerating at highway speeds, P0301 according to my scanguage.
I also noticed it was low on coolant again, so I added more. It’s not shaking at idle like it was though, and driving around it seems fine.
Should I do the other half and redo the treatment, see if it lasts? I still owe over $6,400 on the car, and it’s my only vehicle right now.

I had a 2010 Prius with 240K miles when a check light came on while driving in fast traffic on a very hot day.
The car overheated and began to misfire. So it seemed.
A motorhead neighbor mentioned a gas station mechanic he'd reccomend. I trusted the suggestion and ignored the messy shop.
The problem was misfire on cyclinder #2 -- his computer said.
He'd repair it in a flash by replacing its coil. He tested it himself, charged $300- then quickly left - abandoning his reputation.
    It solved nothing.
I'd long ago learned that Toyota dealers are killing their brand with smooth personal relations and outrageous repair.
I'd discovered that shortly after I bought my first Prius from a dealership. It was a year old and "certified", which meant nothing.
It looked like new, but I soon found it had been in a major collision that required frame straightening.
Their technican agreed, but the dealer didn't. The car looked new and ran well, but overtime small issues grew because of the collision.
The overheating occurred after I added 200k miles.
Head gasket they said. They'd replace it in a day. But, when I told them that I wanted to see what what the gasket showed, the repair required two days and a weekend.
Toyota corporate, I learned, has no control over how dealerships make their money.
After awhile, I decided to replace my Prius with another 2010 that had the same options but with 50,000 fewer miles.
A small RI dealer promised to fix any problems at his expense, and half the cost for a year after that.
But then I realized he was playing a game of waiting out the lemon law limits. 1,000 miles.
On my own, I tackled the problems according to severity.
The EGR problem was easily solved with Rislone cleaner,
And BARS Head Gasket Fixer solved the headgasket problem in 20 minutes.
The gasket fix continued to improve the more I drove my car.
Two solutions saved several thousand dollars.
Some easily solved problems --an ABS light and an engine check lite.
The speed sensor connector wire to one of the wheels was disconnected. Reconnecting fixed it.
The car also has a metalic rattle because of an exhaust pipe hanger. Otherwise it's quiet.
Some DB high temp iron adhesive should fix it, if not some wire wrap probably would.
My engine runs smootly, power and all, but now it's time to address the 43 mpg
where I'm hoping to find 5 mpg more.

Great video. I think many people do this but never talk about it. I being one of them. I have a 2010 prius basic. Paid $1500 bucks for it with 250k miles. Had a suspected blown head gasket. I'm a tinkerer so i pulled the egr system and intake and cleaned everything in hopes it would fix the intermittent shudder. It stopped shuddering for a week or so and then it's back. Still losing coolant so at that point I know it's the HG. What do I do? well, I did what you did, except I went with K-seal. Just pour in the reservoir and literally seconds later the car stops shuddering. 8k miles later it started shuddering again. Now from cylinder two. I actually did a quick test and unplugged the cylinder two spark plug and it stopped the shudder. I haven't tinkered with it yet but hoping its a fouled plug or bad wire. Like you I too like this little roller skate of a car. How many cars can go, anf go, and go and get 45-50 mpg. Granted it's not a hauler but it's a work mule. Wish I knew someone in South FL that did these head gaskets relatively cheap. In case anyone in South FL is reading this and you're that person, respond, please.

231K 2013 Prius. This problem pretty sure is due to in whole or in part of the EGR cooler/pipe/valve getting clogged over time. Toyota did not make this part to last. I think I have a small leak on head gasket. I also am reluctant to try the stop leak fluid because I've heard from multiple places that it is temporary and only a matter of time until it fails, unless I suppose one gets lucky on a very small leak. But then there is also more concerns that it has a good chance of causing more trouble down the road if the stop leak fluid clogs up in other places it shouldn't (which is maybe why as you mentioned the other person put the stop leak in a diff location). Your logic makes sense though when weighing the cost to benefit/value of car.
You just confirmed one of my suspicions - The gurgling of water or coolant i thought, and it happens usually on the first start of engine or at certain temps. It gurgles for a few seconds. I also think my coolant level has a very slow leak going into engine causing the misfire briefly to happen a couple times every 100 miles I drive. If I replaced or cleaned the EGR cooler every 100k or sooner I believe it would have avoided the head gasket failing from the pressures over time. I don't get the cold abrupt starts, never did, which I think I prevented by cleaning out the EGR cooler, actually I replaced it the second time at 231K now, and cleaning the EGR valve/pipe along with the manifold. The symptom I get is on slow accel only, slight misfire then goes away quickly (there's a youtube video about this, slow accel misfire)
I want to keep my prius as long as possible so I may have someone replace the head gasket or I may try it following a video, but it looks like too big a job.

I know your comments are only a week old, but I thinking of following your lead.
How many miles have you put on yours since?
Does the K Seal change the color of your coolant or lives debris in?
2013 with 180k miles is showing some those symptoms. I.e. rattle at cold start, hesitation at slow accelaration, excessive water vapors off the tell pipe even when engine is hot. But my coolant is clear pink/red colored no oil residues in the expensuon tank and no coolant in oil either. My obd2 reader is not returning any misfire code and the check-engin light is not on. I cleaned the EGR cooler and intake manifold(yes was very dirty but not totally clogged...i would say 25 to 30% clogged). But the cleaning and new spark plugs didn't make the issue go away.

I don't have experience with other gens but all 2&3 gen Priuses will need head gaskets at some point. It's just the nature of the vehicle. Because of how the coefficients of aluminum vs steel in the engine, multiplied by all the stop starts, so the more stop starts generated by an individuals driving style the sooner the need for a head gasket. There's a cottage industry of people replacing them more affordably than shops.

  • @OnlyTruthLove

interesting this is, I have coolant leaking under the car in my 2011 prius. I thought it was the head gasket, then a mechanic told me that if it was a blown head gasket, I would have coolant seeping into the engine block, and the coolant would mix with the oil, and the oil level will rise, and be creamy in color. Well my coolant is leaving, but my oil level is stable, and its not creamy.
I wonder if the misfire I'm having is related in some way to the coolant leak. . . I filled up my tank, and a week later, without driving the car, the tank drained 2/3rds. I get that misfire shake prius have on every engine start.
I wonder what else it could be if its not a blown head gasket...

Actually, you don't pour it in the resevoir. Pull an upper radiator hose and pour it in there. There is a restrictor in the small line to the resevoir, and if you plug this with leak stop, it can build pressure and blow coolant hoses off...ask me how I know!
