This video feels inspired by comment conversations in the last one. I was up before the sun again today, opening curtains and turning on grow lights. Misting the ones who like a good morning dew. I have a strange growth on my Aglaonema since I put it under a light, that looks like it's going to have a flower, not a leaf. I check every morning and not much is happening, no leaf emerging.
@@SheffieldMadePlants the bud keeps getting bigger, but it hasn't opened yet. When I originally bought it, it was very large & struggling. I made 3 plants out of it and they're all 3 doing well. Only this one has a bud. I'm going to let it go to see if it ever opens.
@@SheffieldMadePlants HEY! My Aglaonema "bloomed" today! Of course, it's not an actual flower, just that white bunch of seeds. There's a second bud in the same plant right now.
@@waskelweewabbit1453 it's not the prettiest flower and it's recommended to snip them off so the plant devotes all its energy into growing big, beautiful and healthy. I have 30 Ags... their leaves are so pretty, no need to keep the "flower".
I really enjoy your videos. You now have a style of your own, and I drop everything I am doing when I see you have dropped another video. Love your channel! Also, buying a moisture meter was the best advice ever! I can't keep my Sansevierias in check, as they keep making babies. I hand these out to anyone who wants them (and still I have too many), and give them a 1-sheet manual on how to care for them, with a moisture meter! They all enjoy going around the house and plonking it into every plant pot - "oooh, this one's way too wet!" Such fun, and so useful. Thank you so much!

I liked very much your Sansi bulb set up with the black IKEA lamp, so I copied that in my home - instant success :-) Plants like it and I think I might sit there throughout winter with them too 😀 Here in the Czech Republic, we get hardly 8 hours of greyish light in winter and that sucks
I have growlights on a timer, but I set them on 4 hour timers as a way of compensating for the lack of sunlight, so for the most part, they receive sunlight, but for the hours they still need light but don't get enough, the growlight turns on. Sunlight is and will always be the best kind of light
Most of my windows have a heating vent underneath, so I bought a little humidifier for my plants, it may help a bit. My plants that spend my summer outside are now inside and some will have to go in areas of my home that are not in front of the windows (I ran out of room). My grow lights are coming today, can't wait. Thanks for your videos, love them.

I think the warm and dry air of my heater actually fixed my humidity issue, since I can't just keep my window open during winter. I have a humidity absorbing box thingy and the aforementioned heater in my room and I'm now finally down to ~60%, yay. The cause of my high humidity: ~100 Plants in a ~2x2 meter space in front of my window xD and no, I can't put plants in other rooms, my family would kill them/ find them annoying/ relocate them
I live in northern Norway and can confirm that keeping the plants happy during the dark season is a challenge. Midnight sun during the summer does not seem to make up for it
As an Aussie near Sydney, I’m shocked that you get 7.5 hours of light on the winter solstice. We are not subtropical but we still get 11-12 hours of light in winter. The other factor with light is the changing position of the sun. I get more sunlight through my north facing windows in winter. During spring and summer, the light is more overhead and concentrated in the east and west windows. I move my light loving plants around to ensure they keep getting the bright light they love.

I've learned that you also don't have to spend tons of money on grow lights. I've got some of my best growers under a 100W LED "sunlight" white lightbulb. Just the type you'd put in an overhead kitchen light.
I'm in IL and found the same I am now up to three Croton's in my collection that are thriving no matter the season. I also take my pation door plants on a winter vacation on a cart to a sunny room away from the garage door for a few months lol.
I enjoy your videos as well. I'm in central Connecticut - glad I can repot any time. I was losing (tossing) plants like it was Madi Gras . Though I'm shifting to cactus, I just can't grow like used to. Your lighting is amazing, my home? No to much. Thanks again.
We usually heat with pellets, but due to outrageous prices and a limit of 4 tons, we are keeping the garage heated minimally, use a 50,000 btu water line heat exchanger for the house that generates humidity, and the rest of the plants are rammed into my sewing room. 70-71°, lights on timers, and a tall piece of hardware cloth as a cat barrier. The mandevilla, dwarf lemon, lime, ice plant, are all blooming in November. Unfortunately the purple passion is also blooming and it smells like a$$🤫 TMI
I have three huge south facing windows that are shaded in summer but the sun comes in strong during the winter. I am hoping this works for my plants. I have them a few feet back from the windows. Hoping this works.
Same here. I'm in the UK, and my plants all end up gathered around my big south facing windows in the winter - to the point where I can barely reach the actual windows myself! They did well last year, and I even had some new growth. Everything else gets grow lights.
Greetings from Norway 🙃 we are entering the dark time. Still our olive trees and bergamotto tree survive winter. Bold but they come back 🙈 and we have some grow lights at home.
The amount of times that someone asks on plant-help reddit if their plant is "salvageable" and the plant is a melted calathea or baby monstera left outside in the snow for a week because they "forgot it when they got it from the supermarket while storing the grosseries" On another note, I've never seen snow in person, so now I imagine it's deadly to the touch
I have been worried about using grow lights because the potential harm the UV radiation could cause to my sensitive eyes. However, I've recently learned that most modern LED grow lights no longer emit UV radiation! I've asked Sansi, Mother, and Soltech, and they have all assured me this is the case for their products. I placed my order at Sansi two days ago, and I can't wait to see how my plants will react!
The worst thing about winter for me is the shorter days too, and ours are still over 10 hours. Can plants reincarnate into people? Lol, I think I was a houseplant in my last life.
Lol you show the thermostat and I look to mine and it's 18.1 😬 it goes between 18 and 21 in here through most of the Fall and winter but summer is usually about the same! So despite the cooler temps they do get that nighttime to daytime slight replication and thanks to Sansi they get the same light year round, so I am wearing layers and more blankets and my alocasias are putting out leaves like nothing happened. My Azlanii did go down to one leaf out of 3 plants but the plants never seemed to take, I recently unpotted and got about 20 corms and repotted the 1 leafer in a small pot to fit it's roots and I can feel it's preparing a leaf. I find it interesting that so many ppl upsize or stay the same size when doing a repot even if the plant is struggling or doesn't have much for healthy roots left. Smaller can be better for these strugglers BC they don't stay wet as long, especially in winter!
I added transparent plastic curtains outdoors it's now like a green house and my plants are doing well even though there is no heat source and also most of the time it's freezing

This is good to know! I was getting worried b/c we've just had unseasonably cold weather this week! My central heat is out & even w/ a room heater set at 72°F, my room has been getting down to the mid to high 60's at night. I'm normally cold natured but even I was feeling the cold! Now I'm not worried any more! Thank you! I have 2 new babies since last time. Philodendron hope & Hoya krohniana Eskimo. They are "starter plants", but they look really great! I wish i could share their picture w/ you!
My husband tells me I have so many grow lights, our house can be seen by the International Space station.... of course he says the same thing of my Christmas lights ;-)
i've been getting nervous about my plants outside in winter! i live in socal so it doesn't get too cold, but there will be nights i will probably have to bring them in. i'm already noticing a few plants, mainly the alocasias, looking sad from the lower light levels. all of these are great tips, best of luck to everyone's plant babies over the winter!

I may get some of those grow lights for our greenhouse. I followed your link and they're actually very affordable...and some are already on sale! Hoping your code is still active when next payday comes...next Wednesday. I'm a first year gardener in the US zone 8a. We don't usually get horrible winters, but I still have beautiful Dragon's Breath plants and other Celosia that don't look like they wanna die because of winter time...I want to see if I can keep them alive all winter long. I have them in containers in the greenhouse now because it's started to get chilly here at night. I would bring them inside, but our Nigel kitty is a nibbler and would make a cat salad out of anything we bring inside. I've insulated the outsides of the pots with bubble wrap and made some mulch out of fallen leaves to further help insulate the roots of not just the Celosia, but of all the plants out there. I did worry about it getting too cold out there and am hoping that the sun helps to warm the inside of the greenhouse enough to at least keep everyone relatively warm. The coldest we usually get is 30 degrees F (-1.11111 degrees C), but that's still pretty cold for heat loving plants. Anyway, yes- I will be getting some of the LED grow lights next week. Thank you for all of your videos! They're incredibly helpful- especially for a newbie like me :)
@@SheffieldMadePlants I was researching heating mats yesterday. I know those would help everyone survive the cold. Luckily it's been warmer here than usual so I have some time to save money for the mats in addition to the lights. Yay! But the warmer weather is confusing all of my plants. My rose bush thinks it's Springtime still and is blooming like crazy eventhough I stopped pruning it 2 weeks ago!
One thing I am doing is keeping my water as highly nutritious as possible! I collect my rainwater, I will also use leftover rice water and additionally, I will add a little bit of fertilizer. I shake my water before I use it, to get those oh-so-good oxygen bubbles in, and it's good to go. That's how my plants enjoy and stay healthy when it is a bit chillier out. :))
a rather heavy hand of mycorrhizal fungus for soil and especially leading up to the winter makes a big difference. Once established you have a cake of insulating heat generating life in soil fighting to keep itself and the roots alive in temp swings and a number of other benefits. Will also drastically shift the fertilizer game more toward feeding the fungus that works with the plant. Can water your plants with a non-alcoholic beer (an alcoholic beer i forgot about and found days later), cooled pasta water... in nuclear mode you make an open aire liquid culture similar to how you would brew a mash and feed it myco fungi rather than yeast and water with that after its bubbled its tail off a while and is swimming with churning myco... feed the fungus feed the plant.
Thanks, just what i needed to know. I can't keep the heating on much so needed to know what is the minimum temperature... I move all the 'delicate' plants to my bedroom (which i keep as heated as possible during the day) and the outside plants I've brought in can live in my living room. Got a new boiler that can keep the house above a certain temp at all times so have to see what this winters costs will be like 😊
I've found that cooler temperatures are beneficial for overwintering most plants. The warmer it is, the more light they require. Low light and warm temperatures leads to leggy growth.
I'm not stingy , Mr S, just very poor! The heating only goes on if I'm freezing. My fiscus and monstera really don't care about warmth though, they seem to have thrived on the cost of living crisis. The new alocosia has moved upstairs where it's warmer , and a bit brighter. 🤞🥶

nope! the plants do not care. as long as they get their 12 hours. you can also get grow lights with a timer function, which allows you to set it for 7am until 7pm for example and not have to worry about being around to turn them off. hope this helps.

Already have 2x 15w Sansi,using one already. About to buy a higher wattage..perfect timing on the offer,mucho appreciated. Holding back from switching on heating just yet,currently 17 in main room,will probably invest in a humidifier this winter. Ran the 2x 15 w 12 hrs p/d last winter and also did not notice any difference to energy cost.
I can't say I have problems with my plants anymore in winter than I do in summer. My aglaonema silver bay grew so much last winter and so did some of my other plants. I try to keep the temp in the house the same year round so they won't get shocked or anything and I don't like more than 68 most of the time and no more than 72.
Plants just appreciate a consistant temperature, not fluctuating all over the place, like one setting when you sleep, another setting when you go to work or grocery shopping etc. All 50 of my plants thrived last winter...my 1st winter as a plant parent! And I keep the house at 67 degrees. All my plants are under vents and they did great over summer with air conditioning, thermostat set at 84 degrees. Seems they've all adapted to their surroundings...or maybe I'm just a plant whisperer. I am one with my plants...but I do have my favorites!

Thank you for the video, Richard 👍🏻 I bought a couple of cheap four-winged red and blue LED strips a couple of l years ago, but I never noticed any difference... I now own four of the clamped (x2) growlights from Sansi and they makea huge difference especially in these dark months. My chilli plants keep growing and producing new peppers even now 👍🏻 I'm not affiliated with Sansi in any way, but they make amazing and affordable grow lights
Jeez, in my Georgian house it’s 80%+ . I have a dehumidifier to prevent mould growth in the building. You could purchase electric humidifier though and place them close to your plants, keep them going whenever you can.
I live above the Arctic circle, and my plants get "showered" by a grothlight in wintertime. As a general recommendation, the plants should get 12 hours of artificial light per day. My question: should I differentiate between shade loving plants and others? If so, what would be the right amount of light for them?
I have all my plants near the awindow with a heating heater 😂. And somehow survive but a change them and i am realy realy careful all winter and my temp its btw21 24 C each day and never hits under 10 C even if i leave for few days . I have new plants and i know i have so little light with no growing light bc of how expensive the electricity is here very expensive comparable to the money that enters. So i always hope for the best and almost every winter i get them at the living room where indirect light is a bit longer and temperature is more stable. 😅
Some are quite hardy and overwinter quite well outside in the garden, others prefer to move indoors and take up residence on shelves and in center pieces. A few rare varieties like to be carried around in a pocket and played with during the day. Most will benefit from an occasional bath and regular dusting. Hoping you enjoy your new friend, naming is optional. Oh wait, did you mean living stones? Because the care is completely different for those, I accidently drowned mine and they kind of went pouf! Sort of exploded 😕😔
Dreaming about your plants sounds familiar.. I keep dreaming that I have to move house and that I have start over designing my garden 😆 As long as you don't wake up with a scream of agony at 3am, followed by a sprint to the plant you dreamt had minor browning on the leaves🧐😋

How do the plants that have lost their leaves know it is time to start putting energy to grow again? Like if I just put them under a grow light will they start to put out new leaves even if they don't have any at that time?
I have SANSI lights for my tropical carnivores and I have on my other plants that sit next to my glass door, specifically my jade that looks like it’s on death’s doorstep, I followed your instructions. Mind you I live in south Florida but my neighbor has big palm trees that block some of the lights from the sun. But unfortunately people forget that the earth moves away from the sunin the winter , low light and moves right back in the summer.
Looks like you've been listening to my comments😊 I would add humidity and ventilation. Along the equatorial line, we have higher humidity than what you get from indoor heating. A humidifier at 40% or higher is important to keep the leaves from drying. Equally important, is to have a fan to avoid mold growth due to a dedeficiency in light and ventilation.
Any thoughts on moving plants around? Local garden centre says "don't move them too much!" but I've got more plants than grow lights (or places where the wires won't be a hassle): is there a rotation schedule that might hit the balance?
Ngl i saw this little mint plant at Walmart for 3 dollars. It was dying so i kust said why not. Now it's thriving. Every now and then i make mint tea. How ever i do end up pruning it from time to time
I'd like to point out you have to place your normally indoor Thanksgiving cactus or Christmas cactus outside in the cold in order to get it to bloom. (2:02) So...I'm THAT guy. Technically, because of a quirk in the Earth's shape, no place gets 12-12 exactly. They get 12-hours and 8 minutes of "day". Also, while "day/night" is simple and convenient, you're forgetting about twilight. So it's 12:08(d)-2:22(t)-9:30(n). And yes, the plants care about twilight.
Maybe a weird suggestion that I have not tried out myself: spray some water over the radiator. While the relative humidity goes down when air gets warmer, it goes up when the water on the radiator gets evaporated.
@@nicoleperron3315 yeah it's not electrical in my home. though you could also try to think of a barrier you can put on top of the heater on which water can be thinly spread I guess. Still, only a suggestion to try out, and easier than trying something out is just eliminating the problem by removing the plants as was suggested in the video :)
@@megustAslagt where I used to live it was old cast iron rads (hot water heating system) so I put a glass shelf on them and my plants on top. You could put a pot of water on it and it would cause more humidity, but honestly never had a problem with it being too dry there my plants were huge, here first and second winter I lost all my big tropical floor plants with the electric heat, so much drier and much less comfortable.
Many people think so because they stick it into water directly and say it doesn't say "wet" but it doesn't work like that. Read that multiple times in the comments already 😅 I've used mine for 4 months now and I'm happy with it!
moisture meter saved my plants. just don't leave it sat in anything like water or soil. the only issue I've had is that sometimes if the soil gets cold it might read it as more wet than it actually is
My plants are making a small leafs I by them they have a huge leaf but when they grow a new leaf in my house it is smiler than the older ones please help I don't know what to do
I have a humidifier near one of my plant areas that I use year round because my climate is pretty dry to begin with. In the winter, I also put small glass bottles of water on the radiators, lol. I don't know if I'm achieving much with that, but it makes me feel like I'm at least trying! Have your Sansi lights lasted you a long time? I have a different LED grow light that is on the fritz after not very long at all!
I leave the heat on as usual when I go away. XD But then I don't have a house. Still, I couldn't lower the temperatures even if I did, because I think it would get too cold for the snake.

🤣🤣🤣! Play the long game. Do it gradually over time! ie every time it gets its trim, snip a bit extra off one of the tall bits! It might take a few years but you will see the difference without any effort! 🤣🤣🤣
Wait your heat only comes on twice a day? 😂 Come to Canada ours is from fall until spring 😂the grow lights look interesting but unfortunately most are only available in UK or US.

NO. You take the meter and use it only before you consider watering a plant. One moister meter is enough for one house/person :-) If you leave there constantly, it might damage the meter - that´s at least what the manufacturer says.
Use only one device - don’t forget to wipe it before stick it into the soil of the next plant, this way you can prevent cross contamination if there’s any pesky bugs or larvae in one of your plant pots. X

We usually heat with pellets, but due to outrageous prices and a limit of 4 tons, we are keeping the garage heated minimally, use a 50,000 btu water line heat exchanger for the house that generates humidity, and the rest of the plants are rammed into my sewing room. 70-71°, lights on timers, and a tall piece of hardware cloth as a cat barrier. The mandevilla, dwarf lemon, lime, ice plant, are all blooming in November. Unfortunately the purple passion is also blooming and it smells like a$$🤫 TMI

I have three huge south facing windows that are shaded in summer but the sun comes in strong during the winter. I am hoping this works for my plants. I have them a few feet back from the windows. Hoping this works.

Same here. I'm in the UK, and my plants all end up gathered around my big south facing windows in the winter - to the point where I can barely reach the actual windows myself! They did well last year, and I even had some new growth. Everything else gets grow lights.

I have been worried about using grow lights because the potential harm the UV radiation could cause to my sensitive eyes. However, I've recently learned that most modern LED grow lights no longer emit UV radiation!
I've asked Sansi, Mother, and Soltech, and they have all assured me this is the case for their products. I placed my order at Sansi two days ago, and I can't wait to see how my plants will react!

Lol you show the thermostat and I look to mine and it's 18.1 😬 it goes between 18 and 21 in here through most of the Fall and winter but summer is usually about the same! So despite the cooler temps they do get that nighttime to daytime slight replication and thanks to Sansi they get the same light year round, so I am wearing layers and more blankets and my alocasias are putting out leaves like nothing happened. My Azlanii did go down to one leaf out of 3 plants but the plants never seemed to take, I recently unpotted and got about 20 corms and repotted the 1 leafer in a small pot to fit it's roots and I can feel it's preparing a leaf. I find it interesting that so many ppl upsize or stay the same size when doing a repot even if the plant is struggling or doesn't have much for healthy roots left. Smaller can be better for these strugglers BC they don't stay wet as long, especially in winter!
Ooo I’ve just got an Azlanii. Already seems to be struggling but I think I messed around with the roots too much when transferring him to perlite.
I added transparent plastic curtains outdoors it's now like a green house and my plants are doing well even though there is no heat source and also most of the time it's freezing

This is good to know! I was getting worried b/c we've just had unseasonably cold weather this week! My central heat is out & even w/ a room heater set at 72°F, my room has been getting down to the mid to high 60's at night. I'm normally cold natured but even I was feeling the cold! Now I'm not worried any more! Thank you! I have 2 new babies since last time. Philodendron hope & Hoya krohniana Eskimo. They are "starter plants", but they look really great! I wish i could share their picture w/ you!

I may get some of those grow lights for our greenhouse. I followed your link and they're actually very affordable...and some are already on sale! Hoping your code is still active when next payday comes...next Wednesday. I'm a first year gardener in the US zone 8a. We don't usually get horrible winters, but I still have beautiful Dragon's Breath plants and other Celosia that don't look like they wanna die because of winter time...I want to see if I can keep them alive all winter long. I have them in containers in the greenhouse now because it's started to get chilly here at night. I would bring them inside, but our Nigel kitty is a nibbler and would make a cat salad out of anything we bring inside. I've insulated the outsides of the pots with bubble wrap and made some mulch out of fallen leaves to further help insulate the roots of not just the Celosia, but of all the plants out there. I did worry about it getting too cold out there and am hoping that the sun helps to warm the inside of the greenhouse enough to at least keep everyone relatively warm. The coldest we usually get is 30 degrees F (-1.11111 degrees C), but that's still pretty cold for heat loving plants. Anyway, yes- I will be getting some of the LED grow lights next week. Thank you for all of your videos! They're incredibly helpful- especially for a newbie like me :)

Luckily it's been warmer here than usual so I have some time to save money for the mats in addition to the lights. Yay! But the warmer weather is confusing all of my plants. My rose bush thinks it's Springtime still and is blooming like crazy eventhough I stopped pruning it 2 weeks ago!

One thing I am doing is keeping my water as highly nutritious as possible! I collect my rainwater, I will also use leftover rice water and additionally, I will add a little bit of fertilizer. I shake my water before I use it, to get those oh-so-good oxygen bubbles in, and it's good to go. That's how my plants enjoy and stay healthy when it is a bit chillier out. :))

a rather heavy hand of mycorrhizal fungus for soil and especially leading up to the winter makes a big difference. Once established you have a cake of insulating heat generating life in soil fighting to keep itself and the roots alive in temp swings and a number of other benefits. Will also drastically shift the fertilizer game more toward feeding the fungus that works with the plant. Can water your plants with a non-alcoholic beer (an alcoholic beer i forgot about and found days later), cooled pasta water... in nuclear mode you make an open aire liquid culture similar to how you would brew a mash and feed it myco fungi rather than yeast and water with that after its bubbled its tail off a while and is swimming with churning myco... feed the fungus feed the plant.

Thanks, just what i needed to know. I can't keep the heating on much so needed to know what is the minimum temperature... I move all the 'delicate' plants to my bedroom (which i keep as heated as possible during the day) and the outside plants I've brought in can live in my living room. Got a new boiler that can keep the house above a certain temp at all times so have to see what this winters costs will be like 😊

I've found that cooler temperatures are beneficial for overwintering most plants. The warmer it is, the more light they require. Low light and warm temperatures leads to leggy growth.

I'm not stingy , Mr S, just very poor! The heating only goes on if I'm freezing. My fiscus and monstera really don't care about warmth though, they seem to have thrived on the cost of living crisis. The new alocosia has moved upstairs where it's warmer , and a bit brighter. 🤞🥶

nope! the plants do not care. as long as they get their 12 hours. you can also get grow lights with a timer function, which allows you to set it for 7am until 7pm for example and not have to worry about being around to turn them off. hope this helps.
I think it helps to have them on during daytime cos you’ve got ambient daylight too and then proper dark for 12 hours which helps

I can't say I have problems with my plants anymore in winter than I do in summer. My aglaonema silver bay grew so much last winter and so did some of my other plants. I try to keep the temp in the house the same year round so they won't get shocked or anything and I don't like more than 68 most of the time and no more than 72.

Plants just appreciate a consistant temperature, not fluctuating all over the place, like one setting when you sleep, another setting when you go to work or grocery shopping etc. All 50 of my plants thrived last winter...my 1st winter as a plant parent! And I keep the house at 67 degrees. All my plants are under vents and they did great over summer with air conditioning, thermostat set at 84 degrees. Seems they've all adapted to their surroundings...or maybe I'm just a plant whisperer. I am one with my plants...but I do have my favorites!

I bought a couple of cheap four-winged red and blue LED strips a couple of l years ago, but I never noticed any difference...
I now own four of the clamped (x2) growlights from Sansi and they makea huge difference especially in these dark months.
My chilli plants keep growing and producing new peppers even now 👍🏻

Can you talk about humidity, I think that a problem for me, my humidity is around 10-25% and my basil dries up. btw I have grow lights.
Jeez, in my Georgian house it’s 80%+ . I have a dehumidifier to prevent mould growth in the building.
You could purchase electric humidifier though and place them close to your plants, keep them going whenever you can.
Bowls or pots of water under plants needing humidity...
Plant grouping also helps with the rise of humidity...

I live above the Arctic circle, and my plants get "showered" by a grothlight in wintertime. As a general recommendation, the plants should get 12 hours of artificial light per day. My question: should I differentiate between shade loving plants and others? If so, what would be the right amount of light for them?

I have all my plants near the awindow with a heating heater 😂. And somehow survive but a change them and i am realy realy careful all winter and my temp its btw21 24 C each day and never hits under 10 C even if i leave for few days . I have new plants and i know i have so little light with no growing light bc of how expensive the electricity is here very expensive comparable to the money that enters. So i always hope for the best and almost every winter i get them at the living room where indirect light is a bit longer and temperature is more stable. 😅

Some are quite hardy and overwinter quite well outside in the garden, others prefer to move indoors and take up residence on shelves and in center pieces. A few rare varieties like to be carried around in a pocket and played with during the day.
Most will benefit from an occasional bath and regular dusting.

How do the plants that have lost their leaves know it is time to start putting energy to grow again? Like if I just put them under a grow light will they start to put out new leaves even if they don't have any at that time?

I have SANSI lights for my tropical carnivores and I have on my other plants that sit next to my glass door, specifically my jade that looks like it’s on death’s doorstep, I followed your instructions. Mind you I live in south Florida but my neighbor has big palm trees that block some of the lights from the sun. But unfortunately people forget that the earth moves away from the sunin the winter , low light and moves right back in the summer.

Along the equatorial line, we have higher humidity than what you get from indoor heating. A humidifier at 40% or higher is important to keep the leaves from drying.
Equally important, is to have a fan to avoid mold growth due to a dedeficiency in light and ventilation.

Any thoughts on moving plants around? Local garden centre says "don't move them too much!" but I've got more plants than grow lights (or places where the wires won't be a hassle): is there a rotation schedule that might hit the balance?

Ngl i saw this little mint plant at Walmart for 3 dollars. It was dying so i kust said why not. Now it's thriving. Every now and then i make mint tea. How ever i do end up pruning it from time to time

I'd like to point out you have to place your normally indoor Thanksgiving cactus or Christmas cactus outside in the cold in order to get it to bloom.
(2:02) So...I'm THAT guy. Technically, because of a quirk in the Earth's shape, no place gets 12-12 exactly. They get 12-hours and 8 minutes of "day". Also, while "day/night" is simple and convenient, you're forgetting about twilight. So it's 12:08(d)-2:22(t)-9:30(n). And yes, the plants care about twilight.
Maybe a weird suggestion that I have not tried out myself: spray some water over the radiator. While the relative humidity goes down when air gets warmer, it goes up when the water on the radiator gets evaporated.
You have hot water heater? Because that wouldn't matter but I have electric and either I would short out the rad or manage to electrocute myself 😂
@@nicoleperron3315 yeah it's not electrical in my home. though you could also try to think of a barrier you can put on top of the heater on which water can be thinly spread I guess.
Still, only a suggestion to try out, and easier than trying something out is just eliminating the problem by removing the plants as was suggested in the video :)
@@megustAslagt where I used to live it was old cast iron rads (hot water heating system) so I put a glass shelf on them and my plants on top. You could put a pot of water on it and it would cause more humidity, but honestly never had a problem with it being too dry there my plants were huge, here first and second winter I lost all my big tropical floor plants with the electric heat, so much drier and much less comfortable.

Many people think so because they stick it into water directly and say it doesn't say "wet" but it doesn't work like that. Read that multiple times in the comments already 😅 I've used mine for 4 months now and I'm happy with it!
Yeah I’m happy with mine too 👍🏻 Don’t leave it sat in the soil or the metal stick will start to rust. I recommend them to all my friends and family.

I have a humidifier near one of my plant areas that I use year round because my climate is pretty dry to begin with. In the winter, I also put small glass bottles of water on the radiators, lol. I don't know if I'm achieving much with that, but it makes me feel like I'm at least trying! Have your Sansi lights lasted you a long time? I have a different LED grow light that is on the fritz after not very long at all!

NO. You take the meter and use it only before you consider watering a plant. One moister meter is enough for one house/person :-)
If you leave there constantly, it might damage the meter - that´s at least what the manufacturer says.
No, the moisture meter that Sheff (aka Richard) recommends says not to do that.
Use only one device - don’t forget to wipe it before stick it into the soil of the next plant, this way you can prevent cross contamination if there’s any pesky bugs or larvae in one of your plant pots. X
