This is amazing 👏 Dr Eddie is my epileptologist in Kenya. He's been an amazing doctor as well as a mentor for me as a person living with epilepsy and interested in pursuing epileptology.
Eddie, it's always impressive to hear you address the experiences of epilepsy in Kenya, and your appeal to people to take their responsibility, to provide support and equal opportunities.
I lost a friend to epilepsy 22 years ago which was so upsetting. But it made me determined to raise epilepsy awareness and money for epilepsy charities too. So i could make a positive out of the tragedy of his death.
Ive had epilepsy since i was 7. Im 43 now. I was lucky to get support but its sad when people dont get the right support they need Well done for helping so many people in Kenya with epilepsy. Ive had people discrimination eg been accused of being drunk during a seizure. Its so upsetting.
Thank you for another excellent and important episode. Epileptologist Eddie Chengo is a great advocate. The whole discussion is illuminating, and I appreciate how you note the importance of person-first language, or "person with epilepsy," in the context of overwhelming stigma.
This is amazing 👏
