I was just coming to the comments section to say that is an idiom we use in England too! "In spitting distance". Also, if it's a direct path with not many twists and turns, then it's "As the crow flies". I'm sure we get all these phrases from the native cultures of far off lands 😊❤

I think you did the right thing by showing them Ethno Mongol with Batzorig and Chinba as it is beautiful music, traditional throat singing is beautiful, Indian music is beautiful, Aboriginal music is beautiful, however the music is for the different Nations is unique and beautiful. Just sit back and listen to all the different qualities and instruments that are in a piece of music then listen to the singing - become one with all of that and you get peace.

    Huduu Nutag (English lyrics)
    The golden sun rises
    Over the striated hill
    The herd grazes in peace
    Countryland is tranquil
    The full moon glows opaque
    Faraway, horses neigh
    Birds bobbing in the lake
    Countryland is gay
    Vocalizing, chanting.
    Mirage cast on vast steppes
    Long song notes stir me
    Rain murmurs on mountaintops
    Countryland is awe-inspiring.

Showing them concepts separately so they can appreciate them and understand them before moving on to fusion is absolutely the right choice! It's very clear how much respect you have for these people and the projects you're showing them, and how much you are actually trying to enrich their lives with education and cultural exchange.
Are they familiar with hard rock? They may need that exposure before getting to heavy metal. After showing them metal and The Hu, you could branch out even more with Jpop + Babymetal, traditional Japanese music + Wagakki band, and Maori hakas + Alien Weaponry! There are some great pop/rap/hip hop artists making fusions with traditional music these days too~
I could go on forever as fusion is my favorite thing these days, so I'll just leave off there for now haha. I'm really excited to see who they get to meet next time!!

Hi from Mongolia! It’s so shameful that we are slowly losing our traditional heritages like this. And yet so thankful to you guys for introducing our cultural heritage to these lovely tribal people. We’re heavily urbanized and 90 percent of younger generations don’t know much about our own heritages. There’s no srict duties to keep our heritage, even in countryside. No one tell us to learn our culture. Not even in school, there’s no one to teach us how to dress properly in traditional way. Keeping these cultural heritage is so hard and we keep losing it. Thank you for showing them this beautiful song. I almost teared up.

I noticed that some of the younger generations in other eastern countries (and their diaspora) have taken up ancient cultural dress as a fashion statement and that has led to them learning more about their ancient culture. For instance, many young Chinese Americans have taken up Hanfu, and have starting learning about ancient Han culture based on their interest in the fashion and how it changed through the ages and why. I hope that Mongolian youth can learn the same way. That they can see things born in the past that interest them and learn from there.

Originally non-white people didn't practice their culture because of European oppression. Now however non-white people don't have to be forced to not practice their culture, they do it willingly. This is partly because of the years of European oppression and manipulation, but also due to the oversaturation of information from everywhere other than their own people. Cross culturalism and globalization are actually hindrances to cultural preservation. Yes, I understand that I'm saying this while engaging in a form of globalization myself, however globalization is a reality that non-white people can't escape. What we can do however is minimize those outside influences. Other than occasionally interacting with or partaking in other cultures online, when we're not connected to the internet we should be soley surrounded by our culture. Eating our traditional foods, listening to our traditional music, reading the written words of our ancestors, speaking our native languages, wearing our traditional clothing and just overall living our lives in accordance to the constructive teachings from our ancestors.

The Sindhi saying mentioned by one of the men is most likely a very old one, going back to the times when the area was controlled by the Mongol empire and later turkomongolic successor states, there was definitely a whole bunch of cultural diffusion, and regardless a major part of the history like that always stays in the common consciousness through stories and whatnot.
More interestingly, though, the practice of posting soldiers from one end of the country in the other (not to mention trade, natural migration from overpopulated northern china and razed Khwarazmian Empire) which lasted over 100 years led to a huge amount of Mongolian men (and related like Khitan, Manchu etc., most of them were considered Mongols back then; let's not go into details) settling down and intermarrying with the locals, so the whole "Mongolian brothers" might be more literal than he might've thought :D

I love seeing the reactions of people whose experience is so different from mine, whose culture is so alien to me, because it reinforces how much we are all human together, how alike we are. Human beings appreciate beauty, and we don't need to be from the same culture to feel the same emotions. We can share joy and sorrow and excitement and compassion, and we can share it because music has the power to transcend the boundaries of language and location. Thank you so much for sharing this. I speak some Mongolian and have been a throat singer for 15 years now, I double checked the "chanting" with one of my language exchange partners and it's most likely just "хөдөө нутаг" = "countryside" (title of the song) distorted by the throat singing technique (tension and forced position of muscle and jaw makes it impossible to clearly pronounce some vowels and especially consonants).
The alternative made my friend laugh because I suspected it might be gibberish that's not even in Mongolian (no vowel harmony lol) so I scrapped it.
