[4.1] The Truth About Furina Is Found In Childe - A Genshin Impact Theory

  • Furina is weird and so are all of the circumstances surrounding her, and dissolving all this weirdness is difficult because there's really not a lot to work with...
So let's approach this topic from a DIFFERENT angle, a more CHILDE-ish angle. Believe it or not, this little orange harbinger has a lot to tell us about Furina although not much of it was said out loud.

    **NOTES**
    - Re: not showing blue under elemental sight thing --> there are three probable reasons for this. 1) It would be a MASSIVE spoiler if you accidentally used elemental sight and everyone was blue and that would destroy the twist. 2) Playable characters would always be infused with hydro which would be... problematic for many reasons. 3) It's possible that since this event should have happened hundreds of years ago that these eidolons have started to accumulate non-water materials... and maybe they've just inter-married with other humans from other regions in the most confusing biological bloodline I could imagine. Either way I don't think it should be taken as gospel that beings like eidolons always need to be elementally infused. It's like how trees are not green, but white.

Actually point 3 is supported by the NPC we talk to early on in the Fontaine AQ, the guy sceptical of Lyney's efforts to prepare people for the prophecy. He believes in the alternative take that humans originated from the sea but developed blood vessels to hold the sea in order to live on land. This could very well be a foreshadowing of what happened with Fontainians, a myth based on Hydro Eidolons becoming humans over time.

So to answer your question about whether or not a hybrid between a hydro eidolon and a human would be immune to primordial waters, the answer would be yes because of how cells work. The new humans born between oceanids and humans would be more human.

I think it’s possible that Fontainians aren’t traditional Hydro Eidolons, but are special beings created by Egeria specifically from the Primordial Sea. They are humans and flesh and blood, but are “different” from the “original” humans.

Something I'd like to add is Furina's constellation, Animula Choragi. The literal translation is "conductor of little souls", and the original Chinese text means "organizer of odes". There isn't a lot to infer from this, but I did some digging and the word _choragi_ is Latin equivalent of the Greek word _choregos_ , which was a historical role in ancient Greece that was given to a wealthy financer to organize a public theatrical play, *appointed by the archon* .
Before we proceed, a reminder: Genshin derives from myths, philosophies and histories of all around the world, and it's very likely that a *lot* of terms in Genshin were translated _to_ Chinese from whatever local language the term originated from, such as Archon (the Chinese version's Zhizeng literally being the Chinese word for the Greek archons). And the localizations refer to both the Chinese text and the "intended original" words when translating.
So why do I think _choregos_ is the intended word? Because I looked through the constellation names in all four main languages and noticed that the Korean version's translation says "코레고스", which is _choregos_ written in Korean. As in not translated but transcripted. This is significant because this is one of the very few instances of the Korean name of a character's constellation not being a translation, and the only previous examples I remember are mythical animals like Manticore and Leviathan that don't have Korean names. And 코레고스 is NOT a word in everyday Korean. I would say it's a very plausible theory that the word _choregos_ was the originally chosen word and _Animula Choragi_ and 司颂 are translations to Latin and Chinese for the English and Chinese versions respectively.
So. We have "financer of a public play appointed by the Archon" and "organizer of odes" and "conductor of little souls". Whatever Furina is doing, it's Egeria's master plan of some kind. Like can we also get attention to the added _animula_ part in the English version? As always, the localization team knows things beforehand so that also has to be a deliberate choice. So what little souls is Furina a conductor of? Why "little souls"? Maybe because she's organizing a play of Hydro Eidolons? Or shall we call it a Masquerade of the Guilty Hydro Eidolons?
Also, whether or not all Fontainians are really Hydro Eidolons I definitely agree that Focalors has been split to Furina and the Oratrice because Nahida's description of Focalors applies to both Furina (enjoys the atmosphere) and the Oratrice (reserves the right to influence the final verdict) separately. Considering Nahida is the avatar of Irminsul and has never been outside the Sanctuary of Surasthana till the end of the Sumeru Archon Quest, she must have Irminsuled the information on Focalors and just reiterated the search results, which must have been about Furina and the Oratrice combined.

This "conducting" would also fit with one of the quests in the Bottleland. We had an Eidolon play that was put on by the Eidolons themselves, but "controlled" by a dude who wrote "code" for them. So, both Furina and the citizens would be playing roles in Egeria's grand plan.

When you mentioned the words derived from greek words, I already suspected that the ancient language from Enkanomiya, which is obviously greek, plays a role of the truth of Teyvat itself. And I’ve been already suspecting that Childe was playing a bigger role since his real name, Ajax, is a greek name itself like Teucer’s. Now what if his destiny was like the greek story itself but changed cuz of the Traveler?

The biggest flaw in this theory is that in the summer event it was stated that eidolons or oceanids that take human shape all have blue eyes and blue hair, as we see now with the girl in the current poetry event. Speaking of which, we learned from her that it takes energy to maintain human form. It isn't long lasting. If the people of Fontaine were eidolons they likely would have lost their human shape long ago due to the energy consumption.
It's far more likely that there's something else that's special about Fontainians.

    • @ZaneLoehr
      @ZaneLoehr 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +78

When we drank the primordial water they said we felt more attuned to the hydro element. The reason I guess for fontanians being dissolved is that they are already naturally attuned to hydro so they end up becoming hydro itself. As for why the Primordial water does that probably has something to do with the whale (they did tease it at the end of 4.1 AQ) Also if they really were eidolons and get dissolved then Furina would get dissolved as well so that can't be true since the prophecy states she would be the only one left.

    • @kieran1129

Yes and even then, they would not stay in human form after death either. I do think Fontainians are humans made from primordial water tho, as that would explain why they can be dissolved and turn into Oceanids. There's definitely a connection between them and the sea.
I also don't think Egeria made the Oratrice, since it was apparently made around 400 years ago when she was already dead.
Furina's seeming immunity to primordial water makes it unlikely for her to be an Oceanid, as well as her name not being from an actual Oceanid like all the others and her appearance being so different (and that would also be redundant after two events with similar reveal imo).

@@RihoramaTbh, I don’t think that Neuvillette apologizing towards Celestia is that far fetch if people view the line more as a plea and not a sincere apology.
Look at it this way. Neuvi is the Hydro Sovereign reborned, freely walking in Teyvat… And Celestia is doing nothing about it (on the surface at least)? Lol Would certainly make more sense if Neuvi is able to live his life as long as he does nothing to threaten Celestia’s rule. So if the Primordial Sea pressuring upwards in the prison is the results of Celestia’s doing, then Neuvi’s line can easily be read as “Look, I know I’m suppose to not overstep, but please don’t do anything rash. This ruling is too harsh.”
Now, am I SAYING that it is Celestia controlling the sea? Not necessarily, cause the only thing we do know for certain is that the sea existed even before the Primordial One’s ruling (aka, a product of the Old World), so we can only speculate who can control the sea. With that said, Celestia stole the Elemental Authorities from the Sovereigns. Not really a wild concept then that Celestia thus have control of elements from the Old World and refashioned it to fit their purposes. But I can also see it being the act of the Abyss, I do not know how exactly when it was “supposedly” Celestia that gain control of powers and the landscape of the Old World, other than a gut feeling mainly since I still suspect that Celestia and the Abyss have a more symbiotic relationship than it first appears (if the parallels to Imaginary and Quanta actually holds significance for Genshin).
tl;dr I suspect you’re not suppose to take Neuvi’s line about forgiveness quite literally.

If the whale is an abyssally corrupted dragon-adjacent creature that is the embodiment of the primordial sea, then it makes sense why Neuvillette is the only one who can control it.
My theory is that the purpose of the indemnitium/oratrice is to return Neuvillette's full authority as hydro sovereign, and only when he has that authority, he can wrestle control over the whale fully, and end the prophecy.
Furina has to maintain the act because obviously Celestia doesn't want dragon sovereigns regaining their authority, particularly if it undermines their plans.
I personally don't think that the prophecy was set up by Celestia, because Neuvillette apologises, seemingly genuinely, that he must override the judgement of the prophecy.
It only makes sense for him to apologise IMO if the origin of the prophecy is draconic.
Given that the original inhabitants of Teyvat were the dragons, and the primordial one stole their celestial authority and Teyvat as a whole, I think that the Primordial sea actually predates the primordial one, and was originally part of the domain of the dragons. So it makes sense that both the whale and the sea as a whole would answer chiefly to a hydro sovereign who has their full authority.

The game itself states that Sovereign Hydro is the heart of the Primordial Sea and that this primordial water was the origin of the entire race of Teyvat (including the Dragartos who exist long before Phanes). I don't understand why this part of the lore wasn't mentioned in the video, because this part practically confirms that the prophecy has more to do with dragons than Celestia, and after all, Neuvillette himself states that if he recovered the Hydro Authority he could end the prophecy.

Her theory is pretty good as always, but I think besides the loose ends she mentions at the end, the one that you mention about Neuvillette apologizing is a big one.Maybe the prophecy was set up by the former hydro sovereign himself and the whale could also be like a remnant of his power that was corrupted by the abyss maybe because of his resentment towards Fontaine, and maybe it was set on motion when the hydro sovereign was reincarnated as Neuvillette, so that's why she looked for him and brought him to Fontaine. There is also the fact that Neuvillette mentions in his trailer and his quest that he has missing memories which is kinda sus, maybe Egeria have something to do with it or maybe is the corruption in the whale that you mention that somehow affected his memories due to his connection with it

    • @BrunoVilaNova86

"Furina has to maintain the act because obviously Celestia doesn't want dragon sovereigns regaining their authority"
If you return to the Travail trailer (we will always return to it, aparently), in the Fontaine part Dains says that "the god of justice lives for the spectacle of the courtroom, but even she knows not to make an enemy of the divine", and I think that both your afirmation and dains fit together perfectly. It's all an act created by Egaria so Neuvillette can regain his hydro autority and stops the primordial waters, however they can't let Celestia know it, so Furina pretends to be the one in charge as the new archon.

    • @TheGeekyRedMage
      @TheGeekyRedMage 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

What confuses me about this theory is the aftermath. I don't know how Furina and Neuvillette would create this plan when eventually Neuvillette will regain his powers and thus, making it impossible for Celestia to not know about it afterwards. Unless you think this will lead the a big change in the story to where Celestia goes to war with Neuvillette and probably Fontaine as a whole because of this, I don't see how this plan won't alert Celestia at some point. It seems incredibly short-sight of them, not to mention Neuvillette states that he rather not retake his Authority if possible, so at most it sounds like a plan z type of deal.
I am in agreement for now that the Primordial Sea is an aspect of the Old World/The Light Realm rather than Celestia (at least mainly cause perhaps it's one of the many things that Celestia decided to steal and take control of for themselves like Elemental Authority). I'm not confident in the rest of the theory though or that I don't think Ashikai's theories don't have merit.

What doesn't convince me about the idea that Fontaine people are eidolons is that they seem to have physical bodies. And I'm not talking about the elemental sight thing, but that every description of what happens to the people dissolved in primordial waters seems to be something along the lines of separating the consciousness from the body, while for oceanids (and I assume eidolons too) their body IS their consciousness.
Also, how do eidolons just... live normal human lives? In the sense that they have the same lifespan as a normal human? How do they die? How do they reproduce? Though it's not above hoyoverse to leave such plot holes up in the air, so I don't think this serves as an argument against the theory lol

One thing that catched my attention since 4.0 on one fo the notes found on the philosophy institute (the same note that says egeria cried the tear that gave birth to the first oceanid) is that it mentions that for oceanids to give birth they basically need to ask the hydro archon for them to "divide" or procreate, and during ACT 1 on the AQs we are specifically shown that the people of fontaine go to the fountain of lucine (a place were all the water merges into) to ask for a blessing of the hydro archon whenever they want kids, soo... I speculated since then that fontaine people might all be hydro eidolons so when I saw that and made the connection with that scene I was like "oh, that makes sense"

Also in the current event, the poetry one... we saw that the Fontaine girl callirhoe is actually and eidolon AND an ocenid, AND the fairy of springvale. She used to listen to the wishes and dreams of all springvale people, yet we had one guy "old finch" who got more attached to her after he talked his heart out and vice versa. That got me confused for a bit as to why she left then, but then I also noticed that she could've left because she knew she doesn't have enough power to be a human and act like a human.
But since now she understands that emotions matter more than kid making, she gave him a "heart" made out of pure water to be with old finch, that'll let him meet her in her dreams
So what I could gather from the event here, is that... Callirhoe ran away from springvale in fear of not being able to understand Finch (and probably knowing she can't be like a human) and went around the world learning about different emotions. When she came to understand such emotions, she came to terms that "she can't be like human, but ahe can give her heart in exchange " out of love for a human

If the hydro eidolons created in Bottleland are Idyia's creations, and they're as simple as we see, I think it stands to reason that Egeria, the presumed queen of the Oceanids, the strongest one, would be able to make eidolons that are much, much, much more complex, practically human for all intents and purposes. Unable to change shape anymore, functionally human in every respect, just different on a molecular level.

Also, there is one thing I'd really like to note. *(Spoilers for the current Windborne Poetry event)*
When Callirhoe's human transformation is undone in the final act, she does not return to oceanid form, instead she becomes a Hydro Eidolon. Only once she is in proximity to her own spring, she assumes an oceanid form, which was visibly much more taxing on her.
This, to me, indicates that Hydro Eidolons can be classified into two types: 1. Weakened forms of Oceanids (the power of water is it's ability to take any shape after all), or 2. Shards created by Oceanids that have the power to become Oceanids themselves eventually.
I'm not that good of a theorist, but this is what came to mind after the event.

      Another addition to your theory:
In the description of one of the tainted Hydro Phantasms, it states that Oceanids can also be naturally born from pure waters, so when the waters of Fontaine got "corrupted", Oceanids can no longer be born from pure waters and the tainted Eidolons began to exist.
I'm leaning more towards the latter that Eidolons are fragments that can become Oceanids

Didn't the primordial water exist before the primordial one arrived? Like Neuvillette said that all life was created and nurtured by it, which is why he is suprised that it is harmful for the people from Fontaine. Or something like that. It was when we talked to him at the end of Act 2 I believe.
I also believe that Childe somehow awakened the Whale when he fell into the abyss which caused the primordial water to appear again/go active (outside of Meropide?) and was then found and used by Marcel, which is was made him guilty in the eyes of the Oratrice.
I agree that Furina somehow split apart. I first thought about that possibility after I finished Narzissenkreuz Quest with Mary-Ann and Ann and thought that something similar may have happened with Furina. That Furina is the one we see and Focalors is in the Oratrice.

Two extra tidbits to add on!
In Neuvillette's "More about Neuvillette III" voiceline, he says: "I went to see an opera recently. It was about a lady whose personal charm and manipulative schemes allowed her to continue to dominate the affairs of the grand mansion where she lived even after her death, like a ghost that refused to be exorcised. The acting was impeccable, and the story exceptional. It also reminded me of the current state of affairs in the real world."
When I first read this, I also wondered if Egeria hadn't fully died in the cataclysm-- if somehow her ghost had been haunting Fontaine or if she was puppeteering everything all along with the Oratice and Furina and now it seems it's all her all along except she's not puppeteering... it's just... actually... her!
Second, in Neuvillette's character demo, he walks through a sea full of drowned people and if your theory is right then this scene makes so much *actual* sense!

One point that you didnt talk about is Neuvilette himself commented on the verdict of the sin in the stoppin water cutscene, which imo implied he agreed to condeming the people. This create a weird contradiction between hydro sovereign who agreed to condem fontaine to the primodial flood, and your theory of hydro sovereign helped Egeria sealed primodial water.
Also Neuvilette sensed Furina being sad and literally spaced out made me think theres more to their relationship, you dont just look at a doll and space out like that.

I'm pretty sure it was Remus who changed the DNA of the people in Fontaine with the Golden Symphony. He was the first to perform experiments with melting people in Primordial Water and his version of it - the Golden Ichor.
The theory that Fontainians are hydro eidolons doesn't make sense, because eidolons are already water spirits, they wouldn't dissolve, nor would Egeria have the power or the reason to do something like that.
Remember that Fontainians only melt when they come in contact with pure Primordial Water, if it's diluted they either get high or get sick and die depending on the concentration. Which implies there's a specific (annihilation) reaction taking place between the pure Primordial Water and the unique DNA of Fontainians.

I've had a crack head theory for a while that I think Furina might have a split personality it's been pointed out by the game a while now that Furina randomly acts different and more mature and serious at times (Act 2 when Navia enters the court she points this out and it's brushed off as maybe she's embarrassed about last time and Act 4 pointed out during her conversation with Arlecchino she seemed very serious out of nowhere but then went back to normal, the traveler comparing her to a "popped balloon") anytime it happens people have brushed it off as Furina being quirky but thinking of it as a split personality kinda makes sense. I don't know what this adds to this videos theory but I just wanted to throw out if anyone was interested

I don't think Furina changing her emotions is necessarily a case of split personality. That's just how she is because of her insecurities. She's just putting up an act (her "normal" self, faking confidence) to maybe cope or show everyone that she's in control with the situation she's in. Her "serious" side is her being self-conscious or self-aware.
Maybe she does have another personality or side, but it hasn't manifested yet. Like a dormant thing waiting for a catalyst to awaken. Or she's split in a different way, like two separate clones of her or something like that.
Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if she does have a separate entity inside her because of the oceanid's whole "merging" thingy they have going on rn

One thing I'm really curious about with the whole idea of Fontaine being filled with predominantly Hydro Eidolons including the Archon is if there's a consequence to splitting yourself that many times. Idyia maybe could have had a hand at creating the eidolons in Bottleland but that kind of move looks so small compared to if you were to clone what could be an entire nation. I mean sure Egeria is an Archon and Oceanid but I feel like there may be some consequences to creating lesser copies of yourself which in themselves could multiply more (assuming we put aside the hydro eidolon reproduction stuff) to create more people that could be themselves eidolons. The only way I see there being no real consequences is if Fontaine's people pulled evolution gymnastics to somehow become thier own species and cut ties with their original creators bar the part where they turn to water which would be their fundamental thing that they can't evolve out of.
As a side note, maybe mixing with other humans from other nations could be a thing, but the offspring would still be either part eidolon which makes them susceptible to primordial seawater or they won't be able to mix at all because I can imagine mixing the genes of what's basically sentient water and that of a human probably won't end well outside of having Archon intervention (which would be a problem if the mixing of genes happened after Egeria's death).

This Vill-V chad also has European steampunk aesthetic and orchestrated the grand plan to save her "world" from being destroyed by the antagonist, doing so while she worked from the shadow. She used lots of trick, deception, lies and backdoor mechanic 😂.

"The true story is always different."
If you selectively pick theories to make this seem like the case. lol Yeah, many theories turn out to be incorrect, but there have been theories that ended up being true, like how people figured out that Scaramouche was someone related to the Raiden Shogun before Yae revealed this, or that the Gnoses actually belong to the Dragon Sovereigns before Neuvillette officially revealed that they are basically the Sovereign's Elemental Authorities. And of course, there are theories where aspects of it turn out to be true, like a number of Ashikai's theories for example.
Let's not lie now. lol Yes, it's important that people don't treat theories at face value. They are theories for a reason at the end of the day. But Hoyo literally design and formulated the storytelling for people to theorize aspects of the story, and they're not that subtle with it either. lmao This literally what happened with Neuvillette's true identity for example, where even people that don't bother theorizing aspects of the story theorized that Neuvillette was the reborn Hydro Sovereign, because Hoyo was as subtle as a brick being thrown at your face. lol

Mmmm I don't know about this one... normally, I'm in agreement with most of what Ashikai says, but this time it feels like too much of a stretch, and it doesn't fit in with several raised points from the archon quest: why wouldn't Neuvillette sense anything off with Childe? Why would Childe's vision act up, when we know that the archons don't actually give the visions? How could, if Furina is in fact a part of Egaria (and i agree that she probably is), could Furina be so unaware of everything else happening? If the hydro vision is in the Oratrice, which it most likely is, why would it have a problem with Childe, when we now have evidence that the gnosis are created by using the dragon sovereigns' power? If everyone really is dead in Fontaine, and they're hydro eidolons, wouldn't anyone coming in from outside of Fontaine have spotted something off about them? Wouldn't Neuvillette say something? Wouldn't the other archons that we're friends with? You'd think Nahida at least would have given some kind of indication, considering the entire game story has been planned out for years. I have other questions as well, but my head is too full to ask them right now. In any case, 4.2 will definitely be a trip

I agree with most of this theory (with the exception of the idea of everyone in Fontaine being Hydro Eidolons), and based on that and my own assumptions, the timeline of events probably goes like this:
    - Egeria becomes the Hydro Archon after the War and rebuilds what was left of Remuria, which would later become Fontaine.
    - At some point after the War, Egeria commits some great sin that marks all of her people as Sinners.
    - The Primordial Sea was used as punishment so she blocked it, or the very act of blocking the Primordial Sea was the sin she committed.
    - She encounters a young Neuvillette who, due to the impurity of the Hydro Vishaps, was reborn in human form.
    - Having sympathy for Dragons She takes care of him.
    - During the Cataclysm she creates Furina from herself (Intentionally or by accident?) and goes to fight against the Abyss in the desert, where she dies.
    - Right before leaving or right before dying she speaks the prophecy as her last words, which would haunt Furina for the next 500 years.

as far as I understand destiny cannot be changed in Theyvat the voice in Sumeru says so, destiny is said to be closely tied to the vision. However if the vision is a roadmap for a destiny that means whoever gives out visions controls the development of the future. But if Kazuha can have two destinies doesn't that contradict everything we know so far. I believe it is at that moment that Ei decided to get out of plane of Euthymia and not something the traveller did. Now this is not an accident from Hoyoverse because Childe now apparently can have two destinies as well. Ei is only shown surprised when Kazuha can meet the blade and survive it. It may of course be the influence of the traveller that makes that possible, and Ei may already have calculated that possibility. If humanity can fight the influence of a vision Inazuma may be ready to go to war in the loving memory of her sister Makoto. Otherwise humanity is enslaved and cannot control their own destiny some would call that cruelty.

Since the traveler is considered as threat to eternity, that's why the kazuha scene happened at all. She's merely surprised that there's ordinary human who can withstand her strike.
