- Today we return to Medieval 2 in 2020, the video initially was meant to see if it's still a great Total War game but I've found one of the most overpowered strategy's in the game ever. It's glorious!

Same. It was a worthy entry to the franchise after Rome 1, which was hard to beat. I was 17 at the time Med2 released, and completely and utterly broke. I had no money. I had to pirate it to play. Made up for it later though, since then I bought a physical copy + a STEAM copy.

My dad once started a battle in campaign, and had catapults. He shot the first round and it hit his own king "Our king lies slain in the battlefield"
I only use general cavalry as shock cavalry against weaker units, that way you keep your general alive and plus get an experience :D

Iam from germany and my Vather played this game were i was 7 Years old and now iam 16 and i love this game sooo much its the only Strategy Game what i play cause its sooo cool 👍👍
English Infantry before Fortress:
Levy Spearmen: Basically Militia
Billmen: Counters knights and only beats knights
English Infantry after Fortress
Armoured Swordsmen: Knights for the upkeep of armoured sergeants
English Knights: 21 attack. Pierces armour.
Heavy Billmen: Billmen but with armour
English archers:
Peasant archers: Basic
Longbowmen: crossbow with fire rate of bow and wooden stakes
Yeoman Archers: Better longbowmen
Retinue Longbowmen: Better Yeoman Archers
Sherwood Archers: You won't have a lot but great. 2 hitpoints too.
English Cavalry:
Hobilars: Basically scouts
Mailed Knights: Knights
Gunpowder:
Good. What else? Technology.
Englands roster is pretty mediocre tbh. Their greatest advantage is their starting position.
Try the submod for Third Age, Divide and Conquer.

Hey Alex I have a good idea. You should maybe start doing proper campaigns as these vids are so entertaining. It will also mean you can produce tons of vids really easy too!
This game is such a nostalgia for me. I remember I used to play it when I was 14 years old, not knowing a single word of english and conquring the entire eastern world by Russia.

When you think about it, medieval 2 doesn’t have that bad of graphics, especially since there are thousands of soldiers on the field at times
I always play Scotland when I need to unlock the other factions. English genocide best day of my life.
Just finishing up my first campaign and wow, why did CA ever go away from this style i will never understand, the recruitment is spectacular, making u try out all the units not just symetric armies, and for some odd reason ive grown attached to generals, spies, assassins and even units in this game unlike any other.
I always come back to medieval 2, mostly because of the fantastic characters. The game is honestly more about raising great generals and kings than it is about conquest. I’ve literally paid off factions with 8-10 regions before just to get particularly great kings married off to princesses worthy of them

There are so many things that Med 2 have that they should bring back general speeches, cutscenes, a proper family tree, cheat codes, etc.
I think it is really sad that you have to censor what you say ABOUT WHAT IS IN A DAMN HISTORY TEXTBOOK FOR A 3rd GRADER!
Saddening that TH-cam is at that point of history being too “triggering” or whatever is the cause for them demonetizing

I thought you could get the 1212 ad mod for medieval 2 but you cant so I spent like 25 dollars on a the wrong game because you can only get 1212 A.D with attila

Wow this game its realy good i mean i buy this game ,and think this pribBly looks or feel junky but now all feel even better than some new games like troy like in one of my frist battles the terrain are uselfull and the sieges looks nice this its a good game and now i lnow why many people rant about troy and i steel like troy xd
Darthmod and advanced mods make it the best total war game. The vanilla is abit poo tho I think once you play the different mods
MTW2 still holds up quite well, despite aging graphics, politic system and shitty diplomacy

TBH I think the battles in this are best in the series. The units had so much more weight behind them,

Best thing about this game with I sorely miss is the actual visual change of armour as you upgraded a units armour rating

I haven't played Medieval Total War 2 since 2007,I'm yet to play Medieval Total War 2 with the DLC,I'm playing Rome Total War right,I got as far as 166BC.

This makes me want to re-download the game. The graphics really do hold up and I can imagine with mods this game looks great now.
Chaos Thierry if you want to mod medieval 2 I would definitely recommend stainless steel or if you want something different then third age(lord of the rings) with divide and conquer(submod for third age)

Pathfinding on huge scale is horrible. I was playing huns in Barbarian Invasion and it is just a pain.
I just bought a new iBuyPower pre built gaming PC. Guess what I’m playing? Medieval 2: Total War. Lol. Also playing Wolfenstein: The New Order. I’ve spent well over 300 hrs in M2TW. Amazing game.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for other games since I love M2TW?
I still think it's the best total war. I spent thousands of hours playing this game and don't regret it
ISSUE: I love this game but it is so glitchy.
1. Calvary are the worst. Every time I move or charge them they change their formation to a long skinny line. Extremely frustrating.
2. Chasing Routers: When chasing down routing enemies with your Calvary, they mostly escort the enemy to freedom vs. killing or capturing. Also they never ran direct at the routers...they would run behind the first....WHY!!!!!!!!!!!
3. Calvary often get hung up. You try to charge and only 3 run while the rest freaking walk!
4. Diplomacy was pointless. Enemy armies would always just walk through your lands as if it were theirs. No option to warn them.
5. Pope sucked. They would always threaten me with excommunication for attacking the French who kept attacking me. I hate the French.
6. Sicily and Milan always attacked you. But it is Total War..
7. Walls were super glitchy. So tired of retreating archers just stopping and standing still every time that wall got hit. Really required to micro-manage.
8. Bastards never created a 3
Wait, I came to this video because of the GIANT RED ARROW in the thumbnail, claiming that this particular thing was unbeatable.
But now I am watching the video, and there is no red arrow?
WHERE IS THE ARROW THO?!? It points to the thing which I have been informed by the video that I cannot beat.

Alex, PLEASE play the THIRD AGE MOD with DIVIDE AND CONQUER in a regular campgain, i swear you wont regret it. If you make a series out of it, i will make sure you get enough views, if it has to be a bot klicking for me all the time

Coronavirus challenge
. Play as communist China 1936 start date
.use console commands and make regular China annex japan so you have more time to prepare
. Use a mod that everyone declare war on you
You can only fight from September to June
.you can use road to 56(might be broken)
.you have to start the war before 1940
. If you get to a enemy's airbase/navybase in a month of the battle you can TP 10 divisions anywhere in the world, although you cant spread those divison out, once you pick a spot you can only put those 10 divisions there.
.last but not least you have to take all of mainland china
. If you think your good enough you need to also attack Japan, as you will need a navy

My favorite TW game. Unfortunately I American so if I wanna play as "my country" I have to look to my family roots : England and Ireland. (Because Cherokees aren't in medieval 2. I mean they fought the first english colonists but nooo the Apache get to that in Americas . Pft. West North American Indians get all the fame)
I'm old. I've been playing Total War since the original Shogun was first released. Empire II is a massive and reliable title, perhaps #2 only to Shogun II. Both of those titles remain in active rotation for me.
HRE is the best campaign faction in my opinion, way better than England
- They start the game with the most settlements
- Vienna can make 3000-7000 coins per turn alone if you invest into it
- Right at the start you can rush Denmark as they leave their only settlement alone with only their king to defend it
- You can take out France and England early on in the game and pretty much clap the rest of the game
- They can EASILY double their size at the start without starting any wars with real factions
- They start in the middle so the distance to the capital public order effect is pretty even
- If you don't prepare for the mongols you have about 2-3 countries of buffer space and if you stick to the West they don't reach you
The best total war game by far. Would be brilliant if the map was like stainless steel and more cities and castles were added to the map especially In Britain as Scotland only has two cities, England has three and they should make independent houses with there own crests and colours etc. Also I didn’t like how quickly the family members would die maybes do a 12 turns per year to make it last much longer.

Honestly, the screwed up ageing makes the game unplayable for me... and if you fix it, then the timing of events vis a vis player development is completely out of whack (and I play slowly). Still, I liked the rest of it.
I know this video was a from a year ago but for anyone who sees this after my comment should know that feral interactive is working on releasing this game as a port on iOS and android which has sparked speculation of a remaster by them for PC Mac and Linux so let’s keep our finger crossed for that in the future

AI never just walks to me, they either never come to me, they push and pull back to make me push, or they always charge me with flanks. WTF did I download?
Always wanted this game but I got shogun 2 for free, if I like shogun 2 should I pick this up? Haven’t tried a total war game yet.
M2TW is the best
medieval 2 is really polished its always fun after years again but i hate the old diplomacy system..your allies always backstab you for no reason. another thing which i do not like is that missile units are rather weak in this total war game ( compare it to archers in shogun 2 , rome 1 and three kingdoms)

Long Bow was nice but not best. Long Bow arrow cannot broke plate armor, but Bow shape can. On east Europe and Asia bow shape were really dangerous. Was easier to reload and shoot from horse.
Tbh I don’t know why so many people are saying “Scotland bad lol” i was actually really happy with how mine turned out, took out France and England.
because in an unmodded game vanilla scotland's roster is complete and utter shite. Crap cavalry and range units. Which are the units that give you the greatest victories. Melee infantry are just there to hold a line. And pikes fucking blow, the only good use for them is at a chokepoint. And they are just marginally better than a heavy spearmen when dealing with cav on the field. At least a spearman has mobility and can survive better when they get blasted by a range unit.
There are work arounds of course. Get a crusader guild for actually decent cav, and hire xbows. But merc xbows are expensive, suck in melee, and get crushed by good archery units and pavise xbows. And getting the crusader guild takes a bit of time to get, and retraining becomes a nuisance.
To prevant excomunication you have to send a diplomat to the papal state, make alliance with them, and give him some gold for free when is needed to prevant excomunication and inquisitor
With mods, it’s a good game - one of the best.
But without HUGE love and care of the modders, its code is a CA mess.

I always hated how the family tree worked in M2TW, sometimes inheritance just didn't make any sense. The simple mechanic of choosing your faction heir got taken out for god knows what reason.
Indeed its a stupid decision from them.
And do you know that longbowmen can build a field camp from stakes? Mongols cannot beat it :)

In third age my eleven siege Armies used to be just full stacks of archers with a single cav unit and some spear unit
