  • Gnosticism as a complete system does not appear until after Christ, although some elements of it appeared earlier. And they are the result of good questions but bad answers. Check this out!

How about you don't do the NPC thing and say some trucking blithely piffy praise " oh your doing the good work" I know fuck all about gnosticism but I see the same fucking entitlement to the way they speak to atheists
In fact atheists have to turn to gnosticism cause Christians gatekept humanity's high cosmic ideas "how would an atheist know morality, they'll just kill people. We can't have an atheist society. They just borrow what's ours(the same person who believes morality comes from the spirit)"
It's crazy to see people comport themselves this way in front of an obvious signpost.
Gnostics are right, this world, down to it's very core, is evil
      Imagine weaponizing good Samaritan praise's.
He's a guy gabbing on the internet. You shouldn't get too excited. Judging by the way it he talks, outside of this topic, he's certainly not bringing anything in Vogue for Christians.
Just because you have this community doesn't me you get to do this construted thing

To explain the trinity in words that can be understood by a secular mind I'd say, think mind - body - and soul (inner person). Have you ever had a thought, then acted or not acted on it? That's like 2 people. If you had that thought the the inner person argued with the mind even while your body still wanted to act, or not act? That's the 3rd person. Of course it isn't the same but it gets closer than some I've heard. I really appreciate the teaching on this channel. I've learned so much and it has sparked so much inner thought process. Gone too soon, man. So glad for these videos❤

If this is incorrect may God forgive us and help to change our minds, but it could also be that the Trinity is simply not real nor is it found in the New Testament.
All the confusion about trying to understand it may be needless. Jesus may be what the gospels present him as, the son of God and the Messiah (two terms essentially meaning the King of Israel).
If you are interested in investigating this please search up "Biblical Unitarians". One youtube channel is called "21stonegod" and another "focusonthekingdom" and another "BiblicalUnitarianPodcast" and lastly "BiblicalUnitarian".

The soul is NOT an inner person. That is Gnosticism. The Bible teaches that a living person IS a soul. Read Gen. 2. God didn't take a pile of dirt a shove a soul in it. It says that He breathed life into the dirt, and it BECAME a soul. A soul is physical matter that can and will die!

Not necessarily. Some people like he said just struggle with genuine questions about seeming inconsistencies in orthodoxy. There are of course those that want to feel special about having secret knowledge and it appeals to their vanity, absolutely. You’re right about some of them. But this isn’t the case for everyone interested in these sorts of questions and alternative interpretations.

Gnosticism has mostly been more popularized in recent times by Dan Brown's Da VInci Code, which Dr. Heiser discusses in the full lecture this was excerpted from, as well as movies like The Matrix. I encourage people to watch that full lecture, it is extremely informative.
However, I'd like to draw attention to recent analyses that Marxism and communism drew a lot of ideas from Gnosticism. This is mostly from the work of James Lindsay of New Discourses. There is also this article titled Elements of Gnosticism in Dialectical Materialism (Marxism), something I'd recommend that people find. And there is also Eric Voegelin, who made among the earliest connections between communism and Gnosticism.
    There are parallels:
    - Gnosticism claims to be the dominant view at one time, but there is no support for that. Marx implies in his work that communism was once the dominant lifestyle of humanity, but it was lost; yes, there is little support for this notion either.
    - Gnosticism claims to be the "oppressed" religion that was suppressed by mainstream Christianity; in the same way, communism claims to be for the "oppressed" as a cover story, a disguise for taking power.
    - Gnosticism claims that the normal world we know, physical, with limits, with people who are individuals, with differences and distinctions, is an aberration and therefore evil; individual existences must be extinguished and remerged into the supposed one true god. Communism uses "capitalism" to refer to the same thing, the free world where people are able to live as individuals and according to what they see fit, as evil. It seeks to force all people into a hive mind and remove all distinctions and differences, making all people into drones - that is very similar to Gnosticism. Both Gnosticism and Marxism seem to have the goal of destroying the normal, free world.
    - Gnosticism claims that people with gnosis or special knowledge will not only become God, but have the right to rule over others; Marxism has "critical consciousness" which also means special knowledge that justifies the right to rule. This is actually where "woke" comes from, woke is a modern version of having special knowledge justifying being listened to and obeyed by others.
Sound unbelievable, but look around, there are more and more resources being made about this.

For enemies of God, his judgment is evil, cause they are losing their goods. If you read the earlier verses in this chapter, you would learn that God will use Cyrus to administer justice to the nations. Continuing your fallacy as you assumed that evil must mean only particular thing, which begs the question. If that's the case, that for example word love is always in the same context, so if u say that u love ur girlfriend/spouse whatever, and u would say that u love u parents, that i'm gonna say that u are propably sick person cause u have sexual attraction to ur parents :). I have theory (just speculation) that Gnosticsm has more distant roots in Budhism. The Gnostic idea of "salvation through secret knowledge" (gnosis) is similar to the idea of reaching enlightenment (Nirvana). Not to mention the Gnostic worldview of "the flesh/ physical world is corrupt" is similar to Budhist idea of "Existence is suffering". The Macedonians made it as far as India and Its entirely possible that Budhist ideas could have spread from the east via trade routes but got altered by the time it (centuries later) took hold in the Greek world, before getting falsely paired with Christian ideas.
Correct me here if I'm way off because this is pure speculation.

I’d like to offer a third perspective, although if I’m being completely honest, I’m still not entirely sure what to call that third perspective. But I’m convinced it has something to do with the Zoroastrian magi that although were not Jewish somehow possessed an understanding of the promised Messiah and what that meant for all of humanity. I think it’s important we keep them in mind when analyzing this issue.

Gnosticism has a lot in common with all forms of mysticism, much older and newer. Many many cults, including Christian offshoots we're all familiar with, are Gnostic, Hermetic in their structure and in most of their symbolism. It's really fascinating and beautiful, and I keep trying to develop discernment about it. Gnostic systems provide genuine psychological tools and direction but they tend to turn people into wicked caricatures

I'm not sure why Europeans are being credited in your theory for introducing these ideas given the periods of Jewish exile to Egypt and to areas where Zoroastrianism was the dominant faith. That is enough to introduce a variety of "Eastern" ideas into ancient Jewish/Christian history & thought.

@@obaaneatyChrist was a Zoroastrian, he was raised and educated by the three Magi that came from Persia to find him. Also had claim to the Parthian throne, so yes you are absolutely correct. • @obaaneaty
      @obaaneaty หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@A_Stereotypical_Guy There were several Jewish sects at the time whose views were different than what you see in the Old Testament. John the Baptist was the leader of one. The Essenes, who stashed away the Dead Sea Scrolls, was another. They lived communally and didn't believe in personal property or wealth. Jesus didn't have to be Zoroastrian to be different from the old testament view of things, he could've just been raised among a different Jewish sect than say the Pharisees. He was still Jewish. We just don't get to learn much about the variety of Jewish beliefs at the time so it seems incompatible.

You get strong muscles by resistance. The trials of life are what forms character. How you deal with it is important. You can use it to become stronger or it can use you to make you bitter and defeated. It is up to you. Life is harsh enough; we do not need to make it worse. Peace comes through strength. Gnosticism today seems more like a conglomerate of world religions. They seem to absorb other religious world views that eventually point to "self" as God. I listened to a Gnostic speech and it sounded eerily similarly to a modern day Christian speaker. The scary part is they will even use scripture and refer to Jesus in some cases. "The Two Powers in Heaven" book that Dr Heiser brought to my attention, really does a deep dive into Gnosticism and what the rabbi community thought about it.

I have 'the' THEODICY and can 'teach the teachers' - but nobody will hear what I say because I do not come in my own name. Pity.
I would ask these questions. Whose name do 'you' come in? Who is 'your' Father?
Is it just to show partiality? Then how could there be any without evil?
Use 'evil' for 'good'. Use it to 'forgive', or even to 'lie' as Rahab did. When you open your eyes you might see 'evil', but 'evil' is just an opportunity for the works of God to be displayed. If you judge it... then you are 'gods' and you will fall like men. But if you shine a light into it - with love - then you are a repentant son of man, and thus being led in ths 'spirit'... a 'son of God'.

Funny this Heiser guy was probably a Gnostic himself.
This Heiser guy really no different than Joel Osteen, clever with words and no Gospel message, so many are lead astray with Fancy talk to draw a person into a bunch of nothing......clouds with no water. Heiser is so much in error on his view of Psalm 82, he tries to answer the "gods/elohim" as non human when Jesus says the "gods/elohim" are human in John 10, Jesus answers this question long before Heiser was even born. Heiser writes a book the unseen realm arguing against Jesus. Osten writes books about prosperity and self gain,
People like Hieser or Osteen should not be teaching becasue they do not point a person to Jesus and teach/preach the true Jesus, so many different forms of error within Christianity that people are unaware of. A person never hears of sin either from them two, they just lift themselves up with their own theology and people eat it up.
Heiser was wrong on his view of Psalm 82, Heiser NEVER included Jesus, Heiser deceived many with his teaching of the gods/elohim.
Jesus holds the answer of the gods/elohim of Psalm 82 in John 10.
Israel are the "gods" in Psalm 82, the "gods" are human NOT nonhuman meaning angels/spirit beings.
Israel was unique from the pagan nations that surrounded them, Israel had the law of God, 10 commandment, prophets and a Levitical priesthood. Since Israel had the law of God, it put Israel in the position of being "gods," (elohim), because God chose them, Israel was God's chosen people. They were chosen because of Christ. Christ would come into the world through Jacob's descendents (Israel>>>Tribe of Judah)
    Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;
John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),"
    1. >>>>"I said, “You are gods” >>>>>ONCE by the God (Father) in Psalm 82. Aspaph is the Author and Psalmist of Psalm 82. Prophets of the Old Testament like Asaph the "word of the Lord" would come to Prophets like Asaph. Prophets were the "Voice" of God. God (Father) would communicate His words through the prophets, God does that here in Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;">>>>>>>>Israel, Psalm 82 uses the word "all". This clearly is not about a bunch of watchers/super angels of a divine council. The Psalms were written to and for Israel.
    2. SECOND time Jesus in John 10: 34 Repeats >>>> ‘I said, “You are gods” >>> Exodus 4:22 You are to say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Israel is my firstborn son." If you know your bible Jacob is Israel and there would be 12 sons borns to Jacob, which make up the 12 tribes of Israel. When a person reads Psalm 82:6 when it mentions "sons" it is referring to the 12 tribes of Israel in the physical world.
In reality what a person can get from scripture is that Jesus tells us who the "gods/elohim" are in Psalm 82 when we read John 10 34-35. Jesus is the One who fulfills the words of the prophets from the OT in the NT, that is why Jesus REPEATED the exact words " I said, “You are gods, from Psalm 82 (God/Father) in John 10 (God/Son).
The gods/elohim/divine council in Psalm 82 are not disembodied spirits, angelic or nonhuman spirit beings, they are Israel, all of Israel (Jacob's descendents) would be human, which includes judges, elders, rulers, kings, and the common Isrealite citizen.

      Part 1
Paul mentions two specific points in which the false teachers of his day were mistaken. These are both consistent with the heresy of Gnosticism. Gnostics believe that all physical matter is evil; therefore, the human body, all forms of sexuality, and pleasant food were labelled as evil. As a result, the Gnostics rejected marriage and taught people not to eat certain foods.
While Paul was unmarried (1 Corinthians 9:5-6), Christianity has never prohibited marriage. Nor has it upheld celibacy as a "holier" approach than married sexuality. This ascetic practice was a false teaching arising from those at Ephesus who held to early versions of Gnostic teachings (Colossians 2:20-23).
A focus on Jewish law would have promoted kosher dietary restrictions upon Gentile Christians, even though the early church had rejected this (Acts 15). According to Paul, the physical things God created for our benefit should not be rejected. Paul's reference here is not to the early church, but goes all the way back to God's creation in Genesis chapters 1 and 2. No food is to be rejected out-of-hand (1 Timothy 4:4), but should be embraced with a grateful attitude. The ability to thank God for good things, instead of rejecting them, is credited to those with correct understanding of God's Word and His will.

There are too many unanswered questions to dismiss Gnosticism or Marcionism to be more specific. It’s one of those things that when you see it it’s almost impossible to unsee it.
Description of leviathan in Job is the same description of Yahweh in Second Samuel chapter twenty-two. The story in First Chronicles chapter twenty-one is the same story in Second Samuel chapter twenty-four except one says satan is the cause and the other says Yahweh is the cause as if to say there is no difference between the two they are one and the same being.
Moses wrote that the law was given by Yahweh but Paul wrote that it was angels. Jesus said no one has ever seen God but in the Old Testament there are multiple instances where people allegedly saw God, or someone pretending to be God. The NT says God can’t lie and doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands and lives in unapproachable light and demons are chained to darkness but in the OT Yahweh is lying and deceiving people and lives in a temple made with hands and always appears in clouds of thick darkness.
The OT says Yahweh flooded the earth but in Revelation it says it was the serpent/satan who sent the flood. In Revelation chapter thirteen a verse describes the beast as a leopard, and bear and lion and in Hosea chapter thirteen Yahweh describes himself literally as a leopard, a bear and lion in a passage and as if to leave no doubt finishes the passage by referring again to himself as a beast.
Jesus said the thief came to steal, kill and destroy and all who came before Jesus were thieves. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. In the OT we see Yahweh stealing, killing and destroying but in the NT Jesus is giving freely, creating food from “nothing” healing, and building people up, never once did Jesus kill or destroy anyone or anything with the exception of a fig tree but plant life is not considered to be equal to animal life or human life in the scriptures.
Jesus said if they knew his Father they would be on Jesus’ side but they’re of their father the devil and that’s why they opposed Jesus. It makes sense because Jesus made it a point to oppose Yahweh on multiple levels, changing his law of eye for an eye, and not stoning people that the law demanded.

2 Samuel 22 and Job 41 are 2 totally different chapters. 2 Samuel 22 describes God in his majesty while Job 41 describes Leviathan. The difference is very clear. I don’t know why you think that those 2 are the same.
Exodus 19-24 shows God gave the laws to Moses.
Acts 7:38, Acts 7:53, Galatians 3:19, Hebrews 2:2 shows that behind the scenes, God and angel were both present, God handed the laws to the angel and the angel handed it to Moses for him to hand it to his people. God spoke the laws. Someone was bound to write them, be it Moses or an angel. God also wrote the 10 commandments using his own hand. Depending on the versions you read these verses, they also meant that angels were present when God handed the laws to Moses. Deuteronomy 33:2 points out that angels are also always around when God does something. Also, if you read Exodus 23:20, it talks about how God will send an angel to continue to accompany them in their journey to the promise land. But nevertheless, the laws came from God. It’s not something the angels made up.
Exodus 33:20-Lord told Moses that “no man shall see Me, and live”
John 1:18-“No one has seen God at any time”
If you check these verses, they also reference to the full glory of God which again, no man has seen,
Both in the Old Testament and the New Testament, no one has seen God…ever. What the people saw in the Old Testament were theophanies. Theophany in Greek means “God appears”. This is in reference to the various forms God used to communicate with man in a more accessible manner. He used the forms of a man, an angel, a burning bush, a pillar of cloud, a pillar of fire, etc. People in the Bible will say they have seen God face to face to describe that they encountered God but not that they encountered him in his true form because if they really did see the true form or the full glory of God, they would’ve died.
So Jesus was right. No man, either in the OT or NT has ever seen God.
Genesis 7:11- God flooded the earth.
Revelation 12:13:16-And then from his mouth the dragon poured out a flood of water after the woman, so that it would carry her away. But the earth helped the woman; it opened its mouth and swallowed the water that had come from the dragon's mouth.
Those 2 verses are not the same at all. Genesis 7:11 talks about Noah’s flood which is something that already happened. Revelation 12:13-16 is an event that will still happen in the future. OT physical is the NT spiritual. I don’t know why you think these 2 are the same things.
There are many Bible verses in both the OT and the NT talking about how God cannot lie i.e. Numbers 23:19, Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18, I could go on. God never lied either in the OT or the NT. He never deceived anyone either. But did he hold people accountable to their presuppositions? Yes. Then people whine and say God lied to them even though he never did. He told them the truth but they chose to go with their own presuppositions instead of believing him. If you don’t get what I’m talking about, go read your Bible. God created everything including the laws that governed everything. He cannot break his own laws. That is part of his nature. To refresh your memory, he included a commandment about “not lying” which Moses expanded into several laws. If God lied, he would be breaking his own laws. See? This is why everything God does must be in accordance to the laws that he set. This is how he sent Jesus, his only son to legally bamboozle the rulers, powers and authorities to set us free from the laws that enslaved us. If God broke his own laws, he wouldn’t be a fair and just God.
2 Chronicles 2:6-“Who is able to build Him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain Him?"
2 Chronicles 7:16-“For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually"
It was God’s presence that dwelled in the temple, related with people, communed with people but not God himself because no temple could hold him. The temple is just a place that God favored and graced with his presence but he did not live there. That place would shatter if he tried to live there.
Acts 17:24-God does not dwell in temples made by human hands.
Jesus is right once again. God never dwelled in temples made by human hands either in the OT or the NT.
I could go on, but clearly you need to read the Bible more or use the logos app or something so you could understand what you’re reading. This is why Christians need to study the Bible, otherwise, they can easily be tricked by the lies of Gnosticism.

@@SY-Rhyana Thank you for replying and getting me to clarify! Why do I think Job 41 and 2 Samuel 22 are the same? Job says about leviathan, Its snorting throws out flashes of light; its eyes are like the rays of dawn. Flames stream from its mouth; sparks of fire shoot out. Smoke pours from its nostrils as from a boiling pot over burning reeds. Its breath sets coals ablaze, and flames dart from its mouth. And 2 Samuel says, In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears. The earth trembled and quaked, the foundations of the heavens shook; they trembled because he was angry. Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.
You said Yahweh never lied or deceived anyone but the OT says Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee (1 Kings 22:23). Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee (2 Chronicles 18:22). Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul (Jeremiah 4:10). O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me (Jeremiah 20:7). And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel (Ezekiel 14:9). But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis 2:17).
The Hebrew word yohm is used for day in the bible, meaning a 24-hour day, as in the Earth created in 6 days. Adam ate of the forbidden fruit and died over 900 years later.
These are examples of Yahweh breaking his own commandment of not lying. There is a plethora of examples of Yahweh killing and breaking his own commandment of not killing. You’ve provided good answers but to only a few of the issues I brought up while not addressing all the other points. Also Yahweh gave all the kingdoms to king Cyrus of Persia saying all the earth’s kingdoms belong to him (Yahweh) and the devil who brought Jesus up to a high mountain offered all the kingdoms to Jesus so OT says Yahweh owns all kingdoms but NT says Satan owns all kingdoms.

Hi! Nick, I appreciate your effort in presenting arguments in favor of Gnosticism. However, I would like to suggest considering the viewpoint put forth by Heiser, who points out that Gnostics often engaged in flawed exegesis. This means they didn't adhere to a set of rules governing biblical interpretation or approached it haphazardly.
To put it simply, they would selectively choose and piece together verses that supported their arguments while disregarding the larger context. It's akin to searching for statistical significance after an experiment, rather than stating a hypothesis beforehand.
This tendency leads to a saying that one can support almost any claim by carefully selecting bible verses while ignoring the broader context. It's important to be cautious of falling into the allure of belonging to a secretive group claiming exclusive knowledge that hasn't been properly evaluated. It would be beneficial to study basic principles of exegesis before fully embracing Gnosticism and potentially misleading an audience, as Heiser's audience tends to be well-informed.

@@winglau7713 I agree that one should never ignore the broader context or bigger picture and all texts are to be taken into account, and I want to point out that I believe that the true God and Father of Jesus is presented in the Old Testament albeit scarcely and most of the stories of God are about a fallen angel. The prophets were receiving messages from both fallen angels and the Father but for whatever reason these messages were presented in a way that makes it seem like it’s all from the same Spirit. This is the view that I’ve heard that makes the most sense of how to interpret both old and new testaments.
Another thing I find hard to ignore is that most of what we know about the Gnostics and Marcion comes from their enemies who were victorious. This isn’t to say that the victors were dishonest in representing their opponents, it’s just a weird unfortunate thing that we have stories of gnostics like the Cathars being literally wiped out by the RCC which if I’m to compare history to the teachings of Christ, Jesus never told his followers to wipe out an entire population of unbelievers but on the contrary he said that a time will come when his followers will be persecuted and maybe even killed for their beliefs. Makes me wonder why so many were tortured and burned at the stake or suffered in some horrific way.

    1) Gnosticism was never a "System" nor was it unified.
    2) Second or Third Century? You can say that for the entire NT Cannon. Date is irrelevant here, as cannonization was at the end of the FOURTH Century.
    3) Conflation of Hermeticism and "Secret Knowledge" (i.e. Christ says he is NOT the son of God, explicitly and repeatedly, while condemning those who call him Son of God as Evil.)
    4) Paul was a [Gnostic] Serpent lover.
    5) Arianism (Anti Trinitarian) is not what the Gnostics had issue with. They full on state there are Two Gods. The Creator, and the God of Genesis 2.
As a note, Genesis 1 is YHWH and Genesis 2 is 'El.
    6) So called Gnostics believed this world was a transitional place. This is Sheol. If you conquer material, you descend into heaven. If you succumb to Melancholia, you ascend to Oblivion.
    7) Orthodoxy is Dualistic. (The entire concept of believing in Good and Evil is a Sin, See Genesis. Seeing the world as a binary is against God.)
    8) Is a "God" that actively Floods the world "Good"? No. And that is why he came to earth, submitted himself to the hell he created, ans allowed *us* to judge him.
    9) Silly to call it bad exegesis, when YOU LITERALLY MISUSE THE TERM, CITE A FICTION WRITER, AND ADVOCATE AGAINST GODS WORD!?

There are many doctrines held by trinitarian traditions today that are wrestling with these same concepts. In order to reconcile these seemingly contradictory characteristics of God and stay within orthodoxy they confuse their congratulations.
There has to be a central set of doctrines that can bring an ordinary person willing to dedicate themselves to loving God to saving faith. Or else there is a risk that everyone who misunderstands God, despite their willingness, will miss out on his grace. Not to mention the many who have cognitive limitations to understanding these complex concepts.
