I just found this. My Mother was a wonderful person. She passed away on August 8th 2008 at the age of 81. I'm so proud of her for doing this. And now I can see her whenever I want. Thank you so much......Edna Gottesman Sternberg
The interview is breaking my heart! All the atrocities done by humans, still at this very time everywhere in this world. I ask myself where all this hate is coming from. Got a cousin in Vlotho and will forward it to her. Your mother was a very special strong woman Edna.
Marion told her story with great clarity and she remembered so many names. She was a very intelligent woman. Her outlook on life and why she survived is so telling as to what kind of individual she was. It does bother me when the interviewer asks "what time did you get up" or "what date was that?" It's not like they had clocks or wristwatches or calendars.
Wonderful interview. The interviewer is just perfect. We can see how Mrs . Marion Gottesman was a bit tense in the beginning and how he made it so nice for her to immediately relax and feel confortable speaking with him. Just the opposite of the previous interviewer he is relaxed, respectful and easy going. The lady is a sweety and she gived a great testimony. Thank you so much !
I think the interviewer did a fine job. Keep in mind, he was doing this interview for people who may not have any concept of just what it was like for a survivor in Europe at that time. So when he sometimes seemed to drill down on something that most of us didn't think needed to be explained or that made us or Marion uncomfortable, he was doing that to drive home a point for those who are hearing about the Holocaust for the first time and he wanted them to really understand and think about what Marion was saying. I don't think he was trying to be insensitive at all.
Exactly. These were meant to be a part of the historical record of what these survivors went through. As horrific as their experiences were, they needed to be recorded for posterity.
When I hear these stories and they say they “stole” food from the Germans, I get so upset. It wasn’t stealing, it was survival. I hope these dear people didn’t feel like they were thieves, because they weren’t. They were fighting to survive.
Edna, it's Hans Japelj here. I grew up with you at 61-61 Woodhaven Blvd. My last name is Von Rittern now. I just came across this video and am absolutely haunted. I adored your mother. I am assuming if the interview took place in Rego Park, it might still have been at 61-61 Woodhaven Blvd. We lived in the same apartment on the 4th floor. I would love to catch up.
I kind of felt the same. . . But I got to thinking about it. I think the reason he asked so many 'picky' details was to shut any Holocaust deniers completely up. He even asked her for her exact physical address in Vlotho, Germany. The more details people can recall, the harder it is for people to deny it. And it illustrates the awfulness of it. But I agree, it was hard to hear him prying with those questions. . .
These were filmed two decades ago with the best equipment at the time. I’m so glad your life is so perfect that you can write to complain about the sound quality on a Holocaust survivors story. I hope you’re proud of yourself. You should be ashamed.
He wasn't bad but he was pressing her on how she got the knife through the sauna etc a bit much - Likely she did NOT want to discuss where one would hide a small item through showers etc
I DID cringe a few times at the questions he asked. I felt like he wasn't being very respectful, but I wondered afterward if he was asking those questions to educate people who know nothing about this subject?
OMG THIS INTERVIEWER IS ASKING QUESTIONS THAT SHOULD NOT BE ASKED! Wtaf I mean there are things you just don't ask someone who's been through this kind of trauma and with such a cold tone....I wish I could slap him.
I would expext the interviewer to have heard about SA (Schutzabteilung - strom troopers)! He also asks a lot of irrevalant questions. The testimony is interestoing though - sorry Marion I cannot say thank you to you any more.

You should be proud. What a remarkable woman you mother was.
I like the way she presented her testimony. She’s honest and straightforward. May God bless her.
I also thought Joe was a good interviewer. He asked direct questions that needed to be asked.
Very nice lady. One of the best interview which I have watched until now. God bless

It's hard 2 even contemplate what this lady went though. .she's a tought lady God bless her 💖
God Bless Dear Edna Beautiful Lady So Strong And brave❤️🙏🌹
My grandmother was also a grandmother. Her job was to be queen of her house, love on everyone, grandkids, especially, and to cook delicious food.
Audio is very low for most of these videos. UP THE MICROPHONES on the suject and the person doing the interview.
Sometimes I think these interviewees get off on the misfortune of these survivors. They ask the most ridiculous questions.

Nonye Business I don’t understand: I do frequently see this complaint: the reception is perfectly fine on my phone.
Beautiful strength in her story .

What a nasty interviewer, so disrespectful

cc please!
Joe should've let her talk instead of constantly interupting her. It really bothered me when he asked: why did you do that.
I live in Vlotho.

Well, he might know., But what about the people listening to these interviews? He must make sure that the people listening understand as well.
This interviewer is ill trained.
I agree! I heard him state she was given "beautiful clothes" referring to her Auschwitz attire.
Cant Tue interviewer stop asking and let her talk. Bad interviewer
