  • Guitar, bass and drums. It will always be my favourite musical setup. A three-piece. Nowhere to hide. If you haven't got the chops, then you will sink. Thankfully, 'The Warning' are sailing high and mighty. Off into the sunset. Murdering pirates and stealing treasure. I've got no idea what I'm talking about.
    You can check out the full live set at Bush Hall, West London (recorded in May 2023) here: • The Warning UK Private...

      I try and research and get some of my facts straight before I listen to bands for the first time. I'm a music fan first and foremost, and its about having respect for the fans. I don't always get everything right, but when you don't the fans always make sure to correct you 😁 That's what's great about making these types of videos. Three sisters from Monterrey, MX. They started in 2012. They became The Warning in 2013. Today they are Dany, guitarrist 23, Pau, drummer 21, and Ale, bassist 18.
    In 2022 they did over 100 gigs in North and South America along with Foo fighters, Halestorm, the Pretty Reckless, Three Days Grace, and Guns ‘n Roses. Earlier this year they did four shows with Muse in Mexico and finished 18 shows on the first US leg of their world tour. They just finished concerts throughout Europe including opening for Muse five times in the UK and France. Many of these had 30-60 thousand fans in attendance. They just completed the second leg of their US tour. They will open for Guns N’ Roses in September and also have shows planned in Mexico for the Fall. In February of 2024 they will play during a rock cruise and in August 2024 they will play the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany.
    All three are classically trained pianists and Dany & Ale can play sax. All three sing lead and background vocals; but Dany is the principal singer. They were inspired by the video game Rock Band and two of their songs are available on Rock Band IV. They appeared on the Ellen Show in 2015.
    They are fully bilingual as they attended a bilingual Catholic school in Monterrey, Liceo de Monterrey. But later they all graduated high school through home schooling due to their touring schedule. They attended Berklee College of Music Summer Program in Boston in 2015.
    They started as a cover band. Their cover of Enter Sandman launched their career. They now have 47 original songs in an EP, three albums, and two singles. No bad songs. Their newest single, More, was released May 12th. They have a rich collection of live videos, music videos and lyric videos on their channel. There are also vlogs and individual performances. Any video from last August’s concert at the Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City is perfection!
    When not performing they are humble down to earth individuals. Dany is a goofball and sweetheart, Pau talks with passion like a machine gun, and Ale is an introvert and a perfectionist.
    When you fall down The Warning rabbit hole, you can’t go back!

After following their progress for 3 years, reading and watching their interviews,

    One of the best "first timer" Warning reactions I've come across! The sisters went to a bilingual academy in Monterrey before finishing up with homeschooling; to me they speak better English than 95% of Americans their ages despite being native Spanish speakers. Elizabeth at "The Charismatic Voice" reacted to the studio version of "Evolve" and remarked on Dany's enunciation as well.
    You're not the first to compare Paulina to Animal LOL!! It's generous to say she's five feet tall, and as a teen she was flailing her sticks all over to compensate for her stature. She still gets the same "Pau"-er, but from a more efficient technique, and she's trained for vocals by singing on the treadmill. I'd recommend checking out one of their two Spanish songs, "Narcisista", from their show at Teatro Metropolitan... Pau's drum mentor takes over the kit to allow Paulina to front the band... at 7,300 ft. altitude after pounding the drums for an hour and a half! She's truly a force of nature.

      @@melvinthinks Hahaha, I hear ya. The problem is it won't be a happy song. A previous song she wrote about a friend with which she had a falling out contained the brilliant line "If karma doesn't hit you then I will." From 'Animosity'. You'd love it. You could do that one next? Just a suggestion.

    • @GreedyLittleFokker
      @GreedyLittleFokker 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@melvinthinks It could happen! "Animosity" is Paulina reliving a time when a friend wanted to "hang out" and when Pau said she had to go practice with her sisters, the friend replied "C'mon, your band isn't going anywhere." Supposedly "Unmendable" off their first album "XXI Century Blood" recounts the experience they had with a "hotshot" producer who wanted to cut all their songs down to 3:35 and make them some sort of female Jonas Brothers or Hanson. Aaaannd... the single "Narcisista" was a retort to some Mexican music "journalists" who slammed them for performing in English (funny how journos in Germany/Sweden/Norway/Netherlands never slammed Scorpions/ABBA/a-Ha/Golden Earring for doing the same)
      So to make Beatles analogies, if I may, Pau is definitely the "John" of the group: the social conscience with a pen in one hand and the other fist raised, Milan Kundera books on her Kindle. Dany is half-Paul, half-Ringo, the gregarious frontwoman with a goofy side, and Ale is George, whose quiet persona masks the fact that every bassline she contributes is the glue that holds each song together.

    Paulina's actions also reminded me of Keith Moon. In fact it was my original impression when I viewed Disciple at Teatro (first Warning song) I saw Keith in 1970. He was a great drummer and amazing showman. She's got "it", something that you can't teach nor learn.
    I have to add that Daniela's voice was made for rock and her guitar play fits the song. I would love to watch her play an improvised solo. I believe it would kick ass. Finally, Alejandra is a master technician on bass. She pulls it all together. I especially like her syncing riffs with Daniela. They're simply amazing.

    Great 1st time reaction to The Warning Melvin!! I love that Bush Hall The Warning concert recording!
    The Villarreal Velez sisters are amazing songwriters and performers from Mexico who live in Monterrey, San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo Leon. Each one of their original songs is great. Their second album, "QUEEN OF THE MURDER SCENE", is a concept album. It follows a girl's journey into unrequited love; from infatuation and obsession on into stalking and murder, then madness and the fight over her soul. It is a masterpiece. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2019 Independent Music Awards.
    Their 1st full-length LP, "XXI CENTURY BLOOD", is also very good and is packed with many great songs. The video for the title track, "XXI Century Blood", was nominated for and won many awards.
    Their very 1st released recordings are from their 6 song EP, "ESCAPE THE MIND"; and it is amazing.
    Despite being courted by numerous offers from many major record labels, The Warning have stayed independent through the years; relying on crowd funding to finance their projects. They refused to give up creative control over their material ... down to even the clothes they wear on stage.
    After 7 months of negotiations, The Warning signed a 5 album recording contract with Lava/Republic Records/Universal Music Group in the fall of 2020.
    They decided to release 1/2 (6 songs) of their completed 3rd full-length album in an EP called "MAYDAY" October 8th, 2021. The entire album was released June 24th, 2022: called "ERROR". "Disciple" is my favorite track!
    The Warning do not come from a family of musicians, however, their parents are huge fans of classic rock.
    Both parents are professionals (recording engineer and dentist) and they enrolled their daughters into a private Catholic English Bilingual school Liceo de Monterrey, Mexico.
    They also started the girls with classical piano lessons at ages 6, 4 and 5 years old.
    Regular family functions included gathering around the TV with popcorn and watching LIVE concert dvds of legendary bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen and AC/DC.
    When their parents got them the video game Rock Band at ages 8, 6 and 3, they went nuts playing it obsessively. Shortly thereafter they got real instruments with lessons from professional teachers: and the rest is history. Amazing they are 23, 21 and 18 years old and have already written, arranged, and released #46 original songs.
    I was fortunate enough to get to meet them after their show January 16th, 2020 at The Whisky a Go-Go in Hollywood, California. I had the opportunity to meet with them 3 more times during the 10 shows I attended on their 2022 North American MAYDAY Tour and 2023 ERROR WORLD TOUR.
    Aside from their music, they are just normal, sweet, intelligent, and fun-loving young ladies who are truely grateful and endearing to their fans.
    🗣 Thank you for sharing your reaction! Welcome to the rabbit hole! My favorite TW song is the last one I heard: they're ALL bangers!

    Nice to see that you have done your reading and have learned about the band. Super fun to watch and listen. Especially that part where you picture Alejandra Ale. You are in to them and react like a real fan. The Warning is the only band whos music i can listen to on repeat without getting the least tired. It only takes looking at a picture of the band and i instinctively start hearing a song or start to hum on one of them. This is a band that one day is going to be huge and in the Rock´n Roll hall of fame. They are making a huge contribution when it comes to give new life to a genre that has been slowly loosing its life. TW have brought life and passion back to Rock. Three sisters giving everything when they perform. Look when Pau sings in Narcisista and watch her cockiness when she tells the audience "we do what we please". And look at the expressive face of Dany as she sings and plays her guitar . She is a one man show to and her guitar playing is off the charts. This band has got everything. Oh, and of course Alejandra "Ale" letting her thunder loose keeping the band on the track! I really enjoyed this, keep it up!

    Awesome Melvin! The Warning are one of the few bands that is even better live than in the studio! They opened 4 shows for Muse in Mexico, and Matt Bellamy and co. were so impressed they invited them open more shows in Europe. Not only that, but Matt gifted Dany a custom yellow Manson guitar while in Europe! When I was in college, it was the heyday of the classic guitar bands, Cream, The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin. I saw all of them live, except LZ, and The Warning has a bigger, beefier sound and actually put on a better show. The came to prominence with a cover song but now they are writing great tunes. Band Maid has more technically accomplished musicians, but who hums a Band Maid tune to themselves while making dinner or taking a shower? Because of The Warning, rock and roll is back in a big way!

    • @madmex123
      @madmex123 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Band Maid’s music is faster, but that doesn’t mean they’re better musicians. The girls from the warning are just as technical, if not more. They’re actually classically trained pianists, and they all play several instruments. Two very different musical styles, so comparing them is like comparing beer with vodka.

    • @robertkrawitz8237
      @robertkrawitz8237 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@madmex123 Well, they all play piano in addition to their primary instrument, and Dany and Ale play (or at least played) sax.
      Virtuosity for its own sake is whatever. They don't play wild extended solos because that's not what their music calls for, but watching Dany in their early cover days, it's apparent that she has the chops. But none of them are going to sacrifice the music for the sake of personal glory. All for one and one for all is their musical philosophy.

    • @MrSudeepdas
      @MrSudeepdas 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@madmex123 Well said. Didn't expect that statement from a Warning fan TBH. Technical ability, virtuoso always get thrown about while discussimg the girls for reasons I fail to understand. It shows that most music listeners get swayed by instruments going at 100 kmph. Subtlety, selection of tones, composition ability, the philosophy of less is more go unnoticed unfortunately. No band over the past 3 decades had the virtuosity to rearrange Enter Sandman like the girls did. That is technical ability at its peak.
      And I am not even talking about the intellectualism in their lyrics which is unmatched even by their idols from the 90s.

    Pau is most definitely a little badass, and you can bet she gets off on that little spiel about everyone getting their hands in the air, and then the 'scream of destruction' afterwards!🤣 These gals are the real deal, and just as sweet as can be off stage, but on stage, the claws come out, and they're all business, while having the time of their lives! They were born to do this.😉 I think you'll definitely want to check out their pro-shot performances from Teatro Metropolitan from last fall. There's plenty to choose from, and you'll soon realize that they're not JUST a rock band, but also have some soulful ballads, and even a 'poppy' sounding track here and there! You can be sure that whatever they do, they will do it very well!😍 🤘😎🤘

      @@melvinthinks Don't be too sure about the ballads. I'm not a ballad type myself, but Revenant, Black Holes, The End, Fade Away, and Escape the Mind are definitely songs I'm (much) more than happy to listen to.

    Very good reaction. Each of the girls have a super power, Pau is the creative force also the power and energy of the band. Danny is the good vibes and humor of the group. Ale is the one who keeps the order in the stage and in the rehersals, is a human metronome and keep her sisters in time, is very shy but she only need to talk a little in a interview, sing three words or smile a little to make the fans go crazy. You have to see the early videos, like Enter Sandman viral cover or the Liceo presentation to watch the evolution of the band. They don´t have a bad or filler song and also are better playing live.

    This is a very small venue, approx. 400, and it wasn't even sold out, about 350 I believe.
    Even so the young ladies still gave all they've got. They had just opened for Muse 2 days earlier in front of approx 15,000 people and then came to London for this show. As Dany said, this was the first time most of these songs had been performed in Europe.
    What a privilege to have been there and got some of the exclusive merch.

    Welcome to the wonderful world of The Warning! I see the rest of The Warning Army has already been by with the necessary details and lots of requests. With close to 50 original songs already and a new album in the works, as well as a lot of vlogs, interview, documentaries, and other YT content this is one very deep and very rewarding rabbit hole to get completely lost in. They just don't write any bad songs, so I'll leave the suggestions to others. I'm here to enjoy your journey into The Warning.

      @@melvinthinks They have released several tour behind the scenes videos this year that they call Aftermovies and are available on their YT channel. All of them are great - endearing yet hilarious. There is also a Tidal Rising documentary about them that is about 20 mins long and gives great insight from the band members. One last one is the Mayday in the Making docuseries that is on their YT channel. It is 6 videos about 5 mins long each featuring interviews with the band, their parents, manager, producer, label execs, and others. FYI, they released the Error album in two parts. The first was a 6 song EP with most of the big singles on it that they called Mayday. When Error came out with those songs plus the rest of the album Mayday kind of went away, but remained as the name of their 2022 tour and some other things.

    Well Melvin, that was a fun reaction video. You obviously enjoyed it. And you obviously did your homework before watching the video. Thank you for sharing your insights into what makes the band work. And your obsevations about them.
    Tbh, I've never noticed an English twang to Dany's voice. Though if there is, maybe this is due to English being her second language?
    The Bush Hall show, well I was there and it was pure awesome from start to finish. (The area looks it would be an interesting place to live, and Bush Hall itself had a really nice vibe to it.) As you say the show was originally a kick-starter back in 2020, I wasn't involved, this was before I really go into The Warning, but come 2023 tickets to the show went on general release . . . and wow!
    I enjoyed your observations, and generally agree with them. Though one thing I agree with you 110%: You do have a weird imagination. 😀

      @melvinthinks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there. I try and do a little bit of research before I listen to bands for the first time. Out of respect for the fans tbh. But it also makes the reaction and I insight a little bit better I think. Especially if someone hasn't heard The Warning before.
      Must have been a great gig. And you'll always be able to say "I was there" because I doubt they will play venues this small that often anymore.
      And yes. We both agree re my imagination 😁👍

      @@melvinthinks Thanks for replying. Yes it was a great gig. An 'I was there' gig? Possibly. The first time The Warning played a gig in the UK as headliners. Will it be the last time they play small venues? Well they sold out the 800 capacity O2 in Islington. But further than that, I don't know.
      If you're deep diving into TW you will probably encounter the documentary 'Mayday in the making.' In it the head of Lava Records (Jason Flom) talks about The Warning becoming the biggest band in the world. He says, "It sounds crazy, but it's actually possible. It'll take a ton of hard work . . . and some lucky breaks." I've no doubt that The Warning can deliver on the hard work, but the lucky breaks? Who knows?
      Either way I think they're great, and that you're going to have fun discovering their music.

    • @melvinthinks
      @melvinthinks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No need to thank me for replying. It's the least I can do when you've watched my video and left me a comment 😁 I've now got the documentary you mentioned saved in my watchlist, as well as a few others some other viewers recommended. Will keep me occupied.
      I think the only thing preventing TW from hitting the top is gonna be themselves and potential burnout. When you've been in the limelight since such a young age, and not only that, as a big family (believe their parents are heavily involved) there is going to come a breaking point. But they seem like grounded and determined individuals so fingers crossed for them 🤞

    I saw them last week in a small venue where I started a few people back but was eventually able to get right up under them. Dany is a fantastic frontwoman and knows how to work a crowd with just a tilt of her head or a smirk. Pau is a fantastic frontwoman as well; her magnetic charisma and searing intensity are _not_ restrained one bit by being behind the drums. Ale is definitely more reserved on stage. If you watch her for one song, she cycles through her moves (crouch, hair flip, wide stance, sway while singing backing vocals) and you've seen everything she's going to do for that whole set. I'm not saying she was disappointing in any way, not at all, but she simply isn't as dynamic as her sisters. Still, she's a damn good musician and a solid bass guitarist. It was a great show that went by really fast. I would love to see them again.

    I love The Warning, especially live. They're very much a "what you see (and hear) is what you get" band. Yes, they use a backing track to fill in the otherwise missing elements from some of their songs, but they're very much warts and all on stage. They've had plenty of technical glitches and other mishaps along the way, which they just take in their stride, and Dany, especially, is prone to hitting wrong notes on her guitar, or on a bad day straining to reach higher notes vocally, but most of the time they are right on que. And did I mention no autotune? They're raw as raw can be, which, for me, makes them (aside from Muse) the best hard rock trio I've come across since the 1980s, when my live rock trio of choice was Rory Gallagher and his band.
