    Great vid, with one exception. You should NEVER groom a hairless dog before bathing it, because the bacteria in the little hair that you buzz off can get on their skin and raise the risk of infection. I heard this from a professional dog groomer who specializes in Chinese Crested Dogs. Wonderful video 😊

    Thank you so much. Not enough good info on Chinese Crested available. I have 3 and still trying to master the grooming.

      Im glad you liked it. We agree, not very much information out there. My wife wants to make a few different videos showcasing some of the other care tactics that she uses.

    Hooah! Active Duty Air Force Mom here! We just got a Hairy Hairless puppy. She's 8 months. How long until her mane or hair fully grows in. It is sticking out a bit, but not as full as I thought it would be.
    Also, can you post links to the items you use?

      Awesome! Air Force is the way to go. I’m about to retire in a few days after 23 years…wouldn’t change it. Our Crested’s main came in fully at about a year. She is almost three now and her hair is really nice. I’ll ask my wife what products she uses and post it.

    How do u know how far to shave into for the mane? I took my girl to get groomed and they shaved everything off her. So now I've been doing ot on my own. But her mane hasn't grown back to as long as it was before they butchered her

      We just stop right and the shoulder blades while holding up the mane. Their hair does grow really slow.

      It will probably take at least 1.5 years to come back fully. I'm judging it by my powder puffs' hair who is in a 'pony cut'. She is like half grown back right now because life got hard and I didn't clip her for 8 months. She will go for a groom somewhere else for the first time in her life next week. I was her only groomer, but I can't do it now - broke my ankle.

      You call them chocolate color, chocolates can have blonde or brown hair but their skin color tells you what color your dog truly is.

      We use Dermabens for their body, Pantene pro V shampoo and conditioner (smooth and sleek) for their hair.

      I use LBR brandI baby shampoo, then condition skin with LBRI brand Aloe Vera Gel, it's nice, not oily so it's fine if your dog wants to cuddle on your bed covering immediately afterword., coconut oil is great but just be sure to let it soak in before allowing your crested on furniture or blankets, ALWAYS WASH EVERY DOG BEFORE SHAVING, TRIMMING OR CUTTING.

      Shaving the whiskers is part of the grooming process on Chinese Crested.

      @@ActiveDutyOutdoors i used to have one, i think thats more of an asthetic thing or more for show dogs. usually dogs dont like getting whiskers cut because how how sensitive they're, and it can interfere with their ability to navigate their surroundings.

    Hi! I do have a question. But before that, let me just say how beautiful your Chinese Crrsted is! My question is: do they have to use body lotion and sun screen lotion on their skin constantly? Like daily? And if so, can we use products made for humans on them?

    • @ActiveDutyOutdoors
      @ActiveDutyOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! We use Aveno non scented moisturizer about once a week when we give them a bath. We use sun screen if we know we are going to be outside a lot, like going to the beach.

      I have a CC and I bathe him as needed and apply coconut oil. We use a little doggie swim shirt with SPF coverage or don't take him out on super hot days. I use an antifungal shampoo on him because they are prone to fungal infections
