- Freddie Kraft, Brett Griffin, T.J. Majors & Casey Boat are back in studio to discuss all the action from Talladega, and they are joined the winner of this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race, Jesse Love. Jesse shares his excitement for being locked into the Xfinity playoffs and tells the DBC crew how much fun the Xfinity cars are to drive. They talk about how the majority of the Talladega Cup race is run at half throttle to save fuel and whether anything can be easily changed to fix that.
The DBC crew also discusses the Toyota pit strategy that both worked and didn’t, Michael McDowell’s last-lap block, and the planning that went into RFK’s race strategy, which somehow ended up with T.J. and Freddie in a heated argument because of course. Also, why are the scoring pylons going away? This weekend’s race brought some hilarious Reaction Theatre calls and the DBC hosts fielded fan questions.

Larry Mac was calling the throttle out the whole race and showing graphics throughout the race. You can also tell from the way they're sitting 3 wide for 15 laps with practically no pushing.
Save the scoring pylons!
more power, less downforce.
I used to love Superspeedway racing. Not so much anymore. Short Tracks are not all that great either. Except Bristol. That race was interesting. I know there is not easy cure, but I would rather watch them run wide open not matter what.
This is why I love this show 😂
I LOVE LOVE LOVE a fired up TJ!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks Jessie for a good Xfinity race 🤘🏻🏁
Damn I wish Brad would have won. This show would have been even better.
Well. He lost.
@@ricksmith1382Well, DUH!

I totally enjoyed this episode!!! You guys rock.
I think Jessie need to added permanent cast member. It just elevates the show. Love it!
Jesse is a class act !!
Agree
Yeah
Jesse is the man!!
I am an old Nascar fan they got me. I can't look away, but the future is the young fans and they are not interested . The stage breaks and the slow cars are not going to draw new fans. The TV coverage is confusing and they do not show enough cars . The camera shots are too tight. Make the race exciting.
If Fans would stop crying about every little thing they do, maybe Nascar might start listening
It’s a imsa sports car. Not a stock car. Stock cars have a shitload of HP and tiny spoiler. Take 35% of that tire away. Maybe it will go in the right direction
they havent been ever stock cars try again
@@NickyDThese cars are 💩.
It was visually slower, I love dega and Daytona!! This car has killed every track I love!! Nascar needs to fix this quickly
Same, I guess they don't need a longtime fan like me anymore, and I'm not even old I just have watched since I was a kid.
I just hope Jesse survives the episode!
Congrats on your Xfinity win! Got #1 done! Good luck, the rest of the season! Happy for RCR!
The worst superspeedway package we ever had was all those years where the cars would ride the high line nose to tail and nobody even attempting to pass till the last 20 laps. I’ll take this package over that one all day long
I'll take the tandem over either of those
Ya think NASCAR really reads our comments? Maybe they should they should listen us fans
Same. I don't know why people are up in arms about this at all, because I genuinely find fuel strategy racing vastly more entertaining than the unpassable high line train that we had for most of gen 6.
Who are you guys kidding ?… it’s because of who won you guys are fine with this package … if Hendrick would have won like Daytona you all would have flooded your basement with tears ..: when logano Elliot and chastain couldn’t go anywhere and the all have multiple wins at talladega you have a shit car
To me it’s a bigger miss then martinsville
Glad they brought up JHN,
2 super speedways in a row,
4th in a line, giving bad bumps and wrecking a pack of more competent drivers.
Freddie all worked up about the last lap, but his team wasnt on the track the last lap 😂
They weren't? Oh, crap...
Freddie full of himself just like his driver😂
This episode is an example of how frustrated everyone is with gen 7.
I hated the fuel saving stuff at first but the more I think about it at least it does add a real strategic element to plate racing. The Toyotas proved there is a viable counter strategy so going forward this could actually get pretty interesting.
Glad you came around!
Jesse Love doesn’t speak like he’s 19. High level of maturity, future champion in the sport 💯
I was in the stands drunker than a sun of a bitch it was a great race
I agree it sucking not running full throttle! I race at our local short track in the bomber/any car division, (where Dale Junior just raced a couple weeks ago) and if we run a lap under 20.5 we get a warning, do it again and we get disqualified!! It sucks having to run 3/4 throttle if your car can run faster than the 20.5 just because there are cars in the class that can't run that fast!
I watched the race alone in my house. You could definitely tell they weren’t going hard. You could hear it in the engines. It seemed like they were running a little faster than pace laps.
I've been staying in Turn 2 in the infield for 20+ years... Not having a scoring pylon completely changed how we had to keep up with the race. I feel bad for folks that didn't have access to the TV broadcast at their camps...
Jesse is a hoot. He needs to be on the show all of the time.
We took down the scoring pylons, but you can just look at your phone instead of watching the race! What legend came up with that idea?
Yall's Little Nascar Hero, Fail Earnhardt Jr!
The most hilarious part about the TJ & Freddie argument is both things did happen. Brad definitely push the 34 wayyyy out but at the same time the top lane broke up. I still think Brad would have cleared them but not to the level they did.
It’s because they can’t sell sponsorships on that pylon. They want eyes going to the scoreboard for the ads they sell.
The worst thing about all the commercials is it is same ones over and over again! With all that fuel savings, maybe they can add some more practice!!
It was crystal clear, the 4 car lifted. A Ford was not going to help the Toyotas beat another Ford. Also, Im a Jesse Love fan now. Kid is super smart and I like his confidence.
I'm glad I slept through the race I was tired from work that morning but I was awake for the last 28 laps
1:03:56 was SPOT ON... 😂😂😂
💯
Corey was 4 wide leaving pit lane and chase Elliott almost spun in front of corey.. please rewatch highlights before talking about it on here.. just like the argument about the restart no one really knew if if was berry or gragson behind the 19 come on guys
Get rid of stages yellows. Give the points. Reduce size of the tire width.
Anything else on the wish list?
@@roberthevern6169 Yes, besides no stage break, give them 4 stages to run for, like the 600. Would reduce, "ride around" laps.
Or move the fan seating back 100 feet, let them race at 240. 😆
Ummm the 600 has the extra stage. Try again
@@scottseese13 If there are 4 stages at Daytona/Talladega, and no stage breaks, they will race hard, not conserve fuel. I only mentioned the 600 as an example of NASCAR having a race with 4 stages, and it's only because it's a long race. Try to think about it again.
@@mattthacker9120 Unless they fix the car them "racing hard" will just result in 2x2 lines of people stuck. Whoever started in front on that last restart was gonna finish there
Definitely missed the scoring pylon at Texas. At every restart I was counting quickly to see where my driver was because they only listed the first five on the screen, and it took too long to cycle through the rest of the field five at a time. It was annoying, but at least the driver I was watching was in the top 10 most of the time.
Change .... it takes a while to adapt!
@@roberthevern6169 But it sucks to take a scoring pylon. How would NFL/MLB/NHL fans react if there wasn't a way to watch the time and score, other than a device in your hand? Could you imagine a football game, with nothing to tell you what was going on, unless you held a damn phone. I like to go to events, and put my phone away for awhile. For once.
TJ backing up their plan and not backing down to loud mouth Freddie is awesome! You could see Brad was counting laps down till he sent McDowell ahead to allow him clearance to make the move. Tj 100% right and his record on supers backs that.
You want to get rid of half-throttle at superspeedways? Remove the stages so nobody knows when a good time to stop even is again.
I got a potential fix: lead a lap, gain a point. You lead 50 laps, 50 extra points. You lead all 188? 188 points.
Yes I know its out there, but they'd all be fighting for the lead all day.
the scoring pylons will come back but they will have sponsors.
6 minutes in and jesse is finally able get a word in.
Put larger fuel cells in them for Superspeedways
They showed the throttle constantly on TV. Indycar drivers had to save fuel too, but the race was more interesting to watch.
IndyCar drivers were actually logging laps to get to the pit stops so they could race...running barely 170 gridlocked packs with no passing ain't racing! Only DARFs who see side by side cars start drooling and go OMG such great racing guyz! First NASCAR ruined the short tracks and the road courses, no the teams themselves figured out how to ruin superspeedways, all that's left is cookie cutter 1.5s and I hate them even when they put on good races, just the most boring, uninteresting track type.
Just a naysayer opinion from me, the car and stages are putting the super speedway racing in this spot. Listened to Denny and these fellas, and my conclusion is that it’s an ARCA version of the older IROC series. ALMOST the same exact cars on track, just multiple manufacturers, all built pretty much the exact same, and just a 185 mph pace lap. I love NASCAR, been a fan my whole life, but Xfinity was a more entertaining race to watch than Cup.
No matter whatever they change, it raises some sort of safety concern in some capacity. I say all that to say, I think NASCAR is in a difficult position. Hope they pull together and find a solution.
feel like there's plenty of opportunity to improve the nascar racing.
(besides cleaning the airflow up off the back of these..)
push to pass would def improve the racing,
could be: temporary adjustable restrictors, adjustable downforce/drs, adjustable radiator venting, gas/NO2 ....
or a push to pass with hybrid electric support:
could have fixed battery life, or it could regenerative capacity..
would introduce more potential for breakaway paks,
splitting up the field into differing strategies,...
so many opps!
I agree with you. Push to pass adds an awesome dynamic to Indycar. You get a fixed amount of seconds to use it, and it burns more fuel. This will create another opportunity for strategy.
Imagine Ryan Blaney with a radio dial in the car, I would pay to see this!
Raise the minimum lap speed, and put the pylons back for the fans.... What did they hurt anyway???
The 4 was behind the 19 on the last lap.
It's the matching sponsers
How to stop fuel saving is add average running position points at the end. If a driver averages in the top 5 they get 5 points. average 6-10th in the race you get 4 points. 10-20th average running position you get 3 points. nobody will just ride.
If I want to watch the race on a screen I’ll stay home
I have been going to Dega since 1993. I didn’t go for a while for obvious reasons but coming back and just using jumbotrons did not work as good as the pylon
The crowd around me had no clue why I was cheering Brisco on while he was running faster than the rest of the entire field in a draft. They thought I was an idiot I’m sure especially when I booed the entire field as they passed for the 50th three wide lap
at Talledega cant we have bonus points at various laps? like they do in cycling stages
I hope Sheldon Creed comes up with an explanation to why he couldn’t win in Jesse’s car….
Well, lets just wait and see if Jesse can win at a NON Restrictor plate track before we say anything like that
Best DBC ever. Love you guys
Well, there is Knob Gobbler Freddie!!!!
Bring back Tandem Talladega with car to car comms.
As technology improves racing gets worse in cup. I love NASCAR and watch when it’s possible due to work. Talladega being my home track. I was disappointed. This is NASCAR’s way of a salary cap. It’s disappointing
No, TJ, we don't like fuel saving 😅
If saving fuel at part throttle were outlawed, then so too should short pitting - because to short pit you are equally giving up the race for the lead (in the moment) for the strategy to win the race. No one who went part throttle intended to NOT win the race.
Fix the damn car
I was at the race yesterday and gotta say I agree with the DBC crew. It was pretty boring when they were riding around at 20 mph less than what they could do, boring when they couldn't pass each other at the end, and depressing to see a another driver (McDowell this time) throw a late block that results in a huge wreck. I think Atlanta is now much better than Daytona or Talladega.
talking about the tires at bristol, why was it fine to run 50-60% there, but they did the same thing for different reasons at talladega and everyone hates it? IT"S THE SAME THING. they arent running 100% in both scenarios.
Thats apples and oranges
@@TheHobGoblin more like maybe oranges and tangelos...very similar IMO. regardless they are not running 100% in either situation
@@justinwilliford7151 Come on, think my man. You dont run full throttle at a short track because you'll spin the tires, or yourself, the goal is to put as much power down without losing control...and its a short track dude, of course you cant go 100% but you go as fast as you can. talladega on the other hand they ran around at 50% throttle trying NOT to lead. Comparing a superspeedway with bristol is mental. Its pretty obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about.
@@TheHobGoblin i know it's not 100% like that, just saying the latest bristol race they were going A LOT slower than what was possible with the tire to make them last longer. just like at talladega they were going slower to make the fuel last longer. that isn't different...maybe for different reasons, but it's the same thing.
Maybe it would look the same if MJ picked Tyler Reddick up, but look at it from Beau's perspective. Has he ever been 6 1/2 feet off the ground?
Here's TJ's answer to "Do people not like watching the 3 wide strategy?": It's like watching chess. Strategy is mental, not visual.
I enjoy having Andrew back!
For the most part, the race sucked. Driving around at OJ's speed during his chase....
Literally feel asleep for half the race.
Yeah, but did you wake up in time to see who won?
It was a great race to watch! I love the Xfinity series!
I watch this commentating because of the clowning they do, while I don't watch NASCAR anymore know Dale Sr. would of just shaken his head about how it's going and probably just went fishing lol. I'll stay to my Saturday night races locally!
Love the show guys 😂
Jessie like “ehh I don’t know where to jump in when they’re arguing” 😂
This show and Denny's show should be titled "We need to change everything, but we can't change anything......"
Every hour of tv usually has about 15 minutes of commercials
On the scoring tower. We've been camping in turn one in the infield for numerous years in a row. Not having that tower was the most frustrating thing ever. Having to keep looking at your phone to see who is where is the dumbest thing in the world.
Look up the word racing in Websters n read the definition
Okay, Tony Stewart!
Scoring tower!! ….. Bathurst in Australia has one and it the most iconic item/memory for everyone that leaves that race track. Drivers look at it…. Bathurst 1000 or the 12 Hr😊
Agree, you can only block once.
Indy has an absolute fly scoring pylon. Any track not duplicating that is just being cheap.
Yeah, but i dont think you can build one of those at Bristol or Martinsville
@@godisgood1359why would you need one for a track where basically every seat can see the entire track?
#1 rule in racing ...dont wreck the car.#2 dont wreck the car#3 dont wreck the car..😂
Great show
The 34 tried too aggressively to block the low line and swung the rear of the car too much and around it went!
I think its dumb that when the command to start engines happens, the drivers now start their engines for a second, then shut the cars off until they roll off from pit road. Really??? There should be a rule against that!
Dang your getting as many commercials as fox
When it's on TH-cam and it's a monetized channel what do you expect
Pay the 15 dollars a month like i do and dont get any commercials. Trust me, if you can afford it, it is worth it
Michael McDowell spun almost without being touched. You can't make such a extreme move steering right, left, right at 190 mph.
I knew he was gonna spin before he even spun
I found the fuel saving very interesting. If there isn't that element, they just run single file around the top for 185 laps.
DBC has as many commercials as Fox now.
awesome!! this show has as many commercials as the race WTF
You could tell how slow they were running. Plus the tv showed their speed at 172 mph
Only 172mph!
shut down the spotters radios the last lap to stop this blocking and big wrecks
LOL, loved it!
Why does TJ defend next gen packages so much? It’s weird
what timestamp did they argue?
Remove the Tappered Spacer, problem solved!
No you cannot do that at the super speedways unless you get smaller cubic inch engines
@@johnhaas2523 im no engine guy so would you care to explain why that is? I know they used to run up to 440 cu inch engines before the plates.
i mean f1 still uses pylons
Also if they change the wheel size to say 17 that's 2 more inches of sidewall hopefully allowing the cup cars to hangout sideways a little more without spinning out.. smaller wheels cost less right?? That could help not sure
18 in and manufacturers wanted that size
no scoring pylons in nascar is wild how is anyone supposed to follow the race without a phone
Good Luck trying to pick up Wi Fi at Bristol
Cut the spoiler down and reduce horsepower, change the gear to lower rpm by 1,000rpm, and get rid of stage cautions.
Well hamlin wrecking on the dry makes it worse for him. Just say there’s water 😂
I really enjoyed that race. At first I was with Brett. Hated it. It wasn't racing. But the more I watched the more I was intrigued. Imo.the teams made it a better then the alternative
Would love someone to actually address the fact that Love made the pass for the win on Parker clearly below the yellow line. Broadcast didn't address it, Nascar didn't address it. So is it not a rule anymore?
Think about them removing the Indy pylon. As a child in the 80’s/90’s that WAS bigger than the pagoda 🤷🏻♂️
It was josh berry #4 that was behind the 19
This freaking sport has been engineered and analytic to death and we are worried about a scoring pylon
