Just as a note, Kristen and Michael didn't realize that they were watching the "dialogue boost" version of the movie so any comments about the music or sound being off is probably more so to do with that and less so to do with the actual sound balancing of the movie. Rest assured we'll be double checking this on movies going forward 😅

@@jsm-tac2753 It means that it's not a cheesy, out of the blue, "let's be controversial" choice; part of Daredevil's history is impacted by his catholic education (one of the reasons he decides to adopt a "devil" alter ego, along his father's boxing nickname). And it hasn't gone away; in a recent run, Matt Murdock became a priest while he had no memory.
Unfortunately, the film skips part of that explanation, and just throws the religious iconography there (if the audience knows, they know); a common mistake done by many adaptations: not giving some explanation for the audience that doen't know the character from the pages.

Daredevil debuted 60 years ago in Marvel Comics.
From his Inception to the 1980s, he was colorful, clever, exciting superhero in yellow & black, then in his signature red.
That his handicap didn't limited him to risking life and limb.
Going into the 1980s, Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) reinvented the character as he is today.
A hardcore, dark and gritty crime-fighter with much realism in leading the life of hero, lawyer, catholic, friend, ally, being an example of what his father Jack wanted him to be.
The original live-action DD/Matt Murrdock was Rex Smith and Kingpin/Wilson Fisk was John-Rhys Davies for one of The Incredible Hulk tv movies, 35 years ago.
DD is the only Marvel property that was with a Disney studio (Touchstone) first before being with Fox and then back to Disney.
2003, first year of multiple Marvel films and DD was among the 3 with X2, The Hulk.
    I liked the theatrical cut.
It had the tone and feel that was expected.
The sequences with the action and use of DD's shadow vision were well played.
I thought the casting was good.
Affleck did alright as DD/Murdock, Colin Farrell was so over the top as Bullseye, the late MCD as Kingpin was perfect and Jennifer Garner as Elektra was slowly but surely sinking into who the character really was in a good way.
Jon Favreau as Foggy, 5 years before being Happy Hogan and one of the godfathers of the MCU still blows my mind.
Theatrical cut wasn't a flop, but a lot of footage was taken out.
This 2004 director's cut with R-rating is much better than the original.
The subplot of Dante Jackson (the late Coolio), framed for murder was the bulk of it plus some alternate/additional scenes of the original cut thrown in.
    Either version rocks regardless.
DD on film was a well-done approach.
The spin-off film Elektra (2005) didn't fare well at the box office. The unrated director's cut makes it a much better movie
Jennifer Garner still gets some love for being the original Lady Assassin.
The writer/director of DD also made Ghost Rider (2007) with Nic Cage.
    Check this one out too.
As usual, theatrical cut was ok while the extended cut is better.

In the comics, Daredevil becomes close friends with Spiderman. So much so, that in some story lines, they know each other's identities, and try to help cover each other when having to take off for a battle with each others respective villains.
Sometimes wearing each others costume, to fake out people who think they know the secret identities of one or the other.
And in one of my favourite stories, Pete/Spidey loses his sight, and Matt/DD helps him cope with the loss.
I'd hoped that the TV series or the movies, would work that friendship in..but alas..so far, the powers that be, don't seem to want to.🤨

Yeah, this movie came out in the early 00's, before Marvel got their act together and started connecting all their movies into one "cinematic universe."
But more accurately, Marvel Comics didn't have their own movie production studio until about 2007. And worse, they were facing bankruptcy in the 90's. So they let several Hollywood movie studios make movies about their characters. New Line Cinema made Blade starring Wesley Snipes in 1998, Twentieth Century Fox made X-Men in 2000, and Sony Pictures made the first Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire. Fox would also make Daredevil in 2003.
All the money that Marvel made from these movies got them out of bankruptcy, and they founded their own movie studio - Marvel Studios. Iron Man would be their first movie in 2008, which became the start of what we now know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe a.k.a. the MCU. Without the success of those early Marvel movies like Daredevil, we probably would've never had the Avengers movies today.

The thing to remember with Director's Cuts is that some things were cut for a reason.... I wish someone was there to tell them that the Evanescence songs were released on this album, not before. So in a way this film broke Evanescence into the mainstream. This album was big for a lot of bands...sucks they watched it on dialogue boost.

As others have and will mention, the Netflix Daredevil series blows this movie away, but for it's time, it was just great to see. It went unnoticed, but director and comic writer, Kevin Smith played a character called "Jack Kirby" who interacted with Ben Ulrich. Kevin wrote several issues of the Daredevil comic, but more importantly, Jack Kirby was, at least, equally important to the Marvel characters as Stan Lee. He was the artist, who was co-creator of Captain America, with Joe Simon, and was co-creator of almost everybody else except Spider-Man and Dr. Strange. The Fantastic Four; The Avengers,;Thor (w-Stan & his brother Larry Leiber); Iron Man; the X-Men ... and more, Jack was there! If Jack had been around, he would have been making cameos and everybody would have been yelling "Jack!" Stan was more of the public face, and he wrote the dialogue, but Jack had as much input in the stories as Stan did. Just like Bill Finger wrote and created Batman characters like the Joker (w-Jerry Robinson) far more than Bob Kane. Enjoyed you two sharing your critical eye on this weak attempt, but I highly suggest watching the Netflix series (now on Disney+) because he's going to play a larger part in the future. Bill Everett was the original artist in the premiere issue of Daredevil. This movie is an example of screenwriters, producers and directors believing they are better writers than those who created the character. The difference is when we get to Marvel movies, the creative forces behind the creation has more input in the films, and those who make decisions are in tune with the history and thought process of creating comics. Hollywood is too full of egos who want to take source material and make it their own, and they fail tremendously 99% of the time.

Question, which one of you has been stabbed? If the answer is nigther, then shut up.🤣🤣🤣 You don't just get up. I have been stabbed twice. It's no joke. If they hit a main, your bleeding to death. Yes, from a shoulder wound. It's a bit like dry drowning. Someone is saved from the water and dies in a hospital bed the day after. It's tricky. Oh, you left the dialog boost on. That's why it sounds bad.

On the other side of that argument. My friend was stabbed 9 times with a knife while in a street fight( 5 on the shoulders, 1 small one on the base if the neck where it met his collar bone, and the other 3 on the chest and stomach. He absolutely beat the shit out of the guy, but he was covered in blood and almost bled out by the time he got to the hospital. People are tougher than you would think even if incapacitated

Ok guys from us comic nerds of the 80s (IMO) was so fun. BullsEye in the comics at that time (in the 80s comics) was a bit cheesy and at times was written very dangerous so for me this movie caught what I remembered as a comic book reader. Now how they wrote Elecktra was not written as well as her comic book name sake. I feel they were going for the cheese and in that respect they landed it. Electra's death was (if I remember correctly ) a big deal at the time so for the fans in this movie they set up as maybe a sequel or something leaving it ambiguous as to did she survive ( but how)
And remember guys this is a different world not ours and in that world these things happen.
Awesome reaction guys and I love you are / have gotten into pre current Marvel movies which was a big thing for the old comic nerds at the time. And I can't believe you guys didn't shout out Kevin Smith ( in the morgue). :)

Colins character was over the top because of several things.
1- he was in the throws of just coming out of rehab for heroin
2- comic book movies werent treated well because of the Schumacher Batman movies ( yes even after x-men) (daredevil was looked at like a blind batman)
3- the studio got heavily involved for the theatrical version to cut down to 90 minutes, which the performances suffered therefore of scene timing and urging on the actors for a more comic over the top performance
Things got more serious and hopeful for comic book movies after Batman Begins.
Thankfully Colin has turned things around greatly for himself since.

This movie had a lot of promise and really was ahead of its time in a lot of ways. Honestly I think Ben was pretty good in the roll. His ex, not the greatest Electra. Collin would have been a good Bullseye I think if he hadn’t gone so cartoony with the whole thing. Also, Mr Duncan (RiP) was a killer kingpin. Again if he was a touch more serious that would’ve been great. This is also one of the rare occasions where the race bend on Kingpin made sense. MCD was a great choice because other than his skin, he was physically perfect in a live action adaptation of the character. Now again, I wish he played it more like Vincent’s Kingpin in the Netflix series. Also, they had some pretty drastic interference from the studio and the budget got out of control. Also, they did some really cool stunts with the wires and no CGI. If they had better tech mixed with some of that practical it would’ve made things so much more believable. Also, the ending of this flick really fell off the rails from the Elektra fight with DD. Before really, but it just kinda fell apart. Anyway, I appreciate this film more and more, even with its problems, as time goes by. But when you’ve got X Men and Blade and Spider-Man putting up all time great superhero films around the same era, this one just couldn’t realize its promise.

The guy Bullseye steals the bike from (the one who ends up with the pen in his forehead) is comic writer/artist Frank Miller, who was the original creator of Elextra when he wrote for the Daredevil comics.

Why are you guys always nitpicking on every small detail? Just react to the movie and stop desperately looking for flaws. Of course the Daredevil is a little bit goofy and cheesy, it's a superhero movie, they're all a little bit goofy and cheesy. That's what makes them fun to watch.

It's not them, it's just Michael. I've watched like 3 with him and I haven't gotten any impression from him other than trying to signal his exclusivity.
It's a shame, because I would certainly exercise the etiquette of "if you don't like it then don't watch it" ...if he weren't occupying a show that I otherwise very much do.

Loved this reaction, in addition to this, Kristen should definitely react to the recent Daredevil show which is 3 seasons. They do justice to daredevil and Kingpin was cast perfectly in the show.
Note to Jaby: I am ok with Kristen reacting to the highlights of the entire show and the summary of events so they can be caught up and get ready for the new Daredevil: Born Again show or any of the MCU projects that may involve Charlie Cox's Daredevil.

When DD gets stabbed, y'all had such smack to talk about Matt, lol. You forgot, ALL of his other senses are dialed up - Including his sense of touch, which is part of what makes him such a capable acrobat/fighter, but he'd also be experiencing so much more pain than an average person ever could. Especially if he hasn't been stabbed before. Cut the man a bit of slack! lol
And yes, I would watch a CinePals Netflix Daredevil reaction. I don't know if it should just be Kristen alone though. I imagine most everyone else has seen it already, but maybe you could mix it up and have different Pals watch episodes or clumps of episodes with her. I just can't help but think for a project like that it's better when shes got someone to bounce off of. I can't explain why, it's just a gut feeling.
