Excellent bird, easily Australia's best, approach cautiously and reverentially. Or, in fact, view from a distance as apparently they can be quite aggressive (and they're HUGE). Original designer has shown long-term commitment to the model as it has remained unchanged for quite some time now, though spare parts may be difficult to source (and, in fact, illegal to do so).
As an edge 30 ultra user I've found curved screen is annoying without a case, but with q minimal case its better than flat small bezel phones. Gestures become so much nicer.
I've got a Samsung S9 phone and I hate the curved (Edge) screen they used. If Motorola bought this technology off Samsung then it was a waste of money. I never used the "benefits" that came with it. Trying to edit photos can be a nightmare.
Do you know if there is any way to increase volume when using wired headphones, as even at the loudest volume it still is not that loud and nowhere near as loud as my previous moto.
Good review, but i have a shortlist of about 6, if all the reviews were 14mins like this, that's a lot of research for us lay people! Like many ppl, we like punchy summaries, even 5min is quite arduous when ur "on a mission" to find a new device with not a lot of spare time (as reviews are not our paid work! ) Thanks again.
Could I ask who supplied your review device? All the retailers in Perth seem to be selling an 8gb/128gb lite version of the G85 - I'd like the full fat version
The error there is mine (noted above, but annoyingly I can't amend the actual YT video... I do wish YT had that function) -- the local models are only 8/128.
@@pauljenkinson2019 that's probably why there's not much gain with the newer CPU. 30% less ram would make a difference. The edge 50 is $450 in the same price point as the galaxy A35
As per what Motorola Australia has told me, the local models will get 1 year OS and 3 years of security updates, which matches with what I've put in my review. Would be rather odd if if it's different for OS models unless there's other underlying hardware differences or something.
@@AlexKidman Just had a look at the Motorola AU support site, and that states: moto g85 5G Currently receiving regular security updates. Device launched on June, 2024 Security updates will stop on June, 2028 All of which lines up with the UK publicity, and I'd be surprised if there was any reason for Australia market models to be less well supported. With the 5 years Android updates being promised for the Edge 50 Neo, seems like Motorola might finally getting be their act together with updates!
@@AlexKidman UK suppliers now have to provide a legally binding declaration of security support - a search for "uk psti motorola" will bring up the page with all the model links. Same as the Motorola Australia support page, albeit without the same legal standing.
I seen another AUS online review which also says one OS update and 3 years security updates. In Aus. But then its a review as well. I dont see why we would get one OS update while other regions would get two? Surely not.
I contacted Motorola AU myself and they said security updates til June 2028. As for OS updates basically they are not sure as yet if it will get android 16.
That texture on the green/blue options... looking at my g9 play after 4 years in the gel case it came in: no thanks. I think I will go for the grey though, there's a special on here and the main competitor in my view is the a35 which doesn't bring enough.
It should work -- Android Auto can be fussy in some cars and with some cables, but it's well past the minimum qualifying criteria (Android 11 or better). That being said I didn't test for that specifically to be clear, and it's gone back so I can't 100% confirm. But there's no real on-paper reason why it shouldn't work (as long as your vehicle also supports Android Auto as well).
Appreciate the vid 👍Mine arrived today 😁 I got the plastic back grey one for $319 total.Coulnt knock that back. Truth be told, I really wanted a thorough review on the cassowary.
