Pentatonix has used instruments for years, particularly on some of their Christmas songs, and incorporated Kevin's cello playing into some pop covers. In the last few years, they are experimenting more with instruments and vocal processing to achieve a more modern pop sound.
Pentaholics can't be mad, PTX'S "mission" is to create positive attitude and respect for everyone. "Thank You" was written by Scott and his partner Mark during the pandemic. It was written over Scott's birthday in September 2020, before we had vaccines and everyone was isolated. Scott is Type A always busy and the active engine of PTX. He was suddenly cut off with socializing and not doing multiple projects. Many say its in 3 sections, Scott to Mark, Scott to his band members and all join the last chorus for PTX to say THANK YOU to their fans. If you watch the video again, Scott's 1st verse is to Mark and helping him get through this tough time of Covid. 2nd verse with Christmas tree and fire place was about celebrating our friends and the little things in life. There were no big celebrations in 2020. 3rd verse with Matt and Kirstin playing in the snow is really Mark telling Scott that this house will be our own for 100 years. 4th verse through the TV had old family pictures and the "drive-by" signs many people did during the pandemic. The last picture is of an older couple who "should probably stay inside" because it was affecting the elderly and those with weak immune systems. Final chorus is all 5 saying Thank You to their fans. This was the first time Mark received official credit as a song writer. That's why Scott was the primary lead. Eventually Scott received the equipment and software and learned editing. Then PTX put out a new album DURING the pandemic. One song, "Home" has almost every song with the word home in it. Each filmed in isolation on their iPhones and you see each of them at home in their own houses. Scott and Ben put it together in LA and then send it to Ed Boyer in New York for the final product to be produced and then released. Scott wrote many songs and released some of his individual songs. 1st was "Mars" and it's filmed like a Hollywood movie. About 6 months after that he released a second single and a few weeks after that he released an Album with the same name. Mitch also worked on and released his own alternative music under the name MESSER.
If you haven’t listened to the Kiss From a Rose live cover they just released last week, that would be a fantastic reaction. They do use Kevin’s cello, but you will get plenty of all of them. It’s epic. Subbed since you’re a PTX fan, lol. Happy Thanksgiving and Anniversary!
While I typically would agree….if I hear Christmas music on Halloween….i have a problem with that. For me, there’s a time/place/season for music that is specific (like Christmas music). But I also say, if YOU like something, then you do what makes you happy, regardless of what others think. It’s just my personal preference for the Xmas music thing. Marrying your childhood friend sounds so special. As our lives continue, more often than not we leave our childhood friends behind at latest as we go off to college and meet new people and start new lives. To stick around or come back means that someone you have known the longest has always been one of the most special people in your life. It just took maturity to realize it. That is wonder, and yes I would love to hear the story.
I love any PTX song instruments or not. While they become a household name because of their a cappella work, I am so happy they have begun to use the other talents God gave them rather than let them atrophy from disuse. At one time Scott thought he would pursue piano as a profession so it's great to have him using that talent as well as his voice. Kevin is a truly amazing cellist and it would be so disappointing to have him lose that talent because he stopped playing.

A couple of years before they used a complete orchestra at the hollywood bowl. They have plenty of songs without instruments so cut them some slack when they use them. It is always just either a piano or a cello in most cases.
