Thank you for this very helpful video! I have realised there is some overlapping in BSL. For example, the same sign is used for "mother" and for "Monday." Additionally, the same sign is used for "father" and for "Friday." Would you just use context clues to differentiate between the 2 or is there a subtle difference I haven't picked up on?
Thanks for watching 🖐️ Context and lip patterns will usually help you understand what is being signed. For some other signs where the hand movements overlap, facial expressions will be key too.
Ahhh most of them are coming from the alphabet! So its practically fingerspelling mm, tt, ww, th, ff, sat - and sunday you're happy it's sunday 😀 Tuesday is the same sign for toilet which also uses the tt sign. So i guess context and mouth is what differentiate these two?
There's no difference. It's all in the mouth pattern. Some signs that are the same have over 20-30 different meaning, s. So it's essential you clearly word it along side the subject/ sign your displaying.
Hi I've seen a different version of some of the days of the week..For Monday I saw the m sign followed by opening out both hands (palms inwards), same for other days..and for Friday I saw the F sign but the two fingers on top CIRCLING the bottom. Which would be right? or does it really matter?
For those doing revision, here's a list:
1. Monday
2. Tuesday
3. Wednesday
4. Thursday
5. Friday
6. Saturday
7. Sunday
8. Weekend
9. Next Week
10. Last Week
11. Tomorrow
12. Yesterday
13. Today
Hope this helps :)
Hannah Holness than, you! :)

Thankyou for this . Your videos are so clear and understandable. I love the slow motion explanation . It makes it so much easier to learn the sign.
I'd like to applaud you for making this easy to see, and also for signing more slowly. You are very easy to understand.
How is Monday different from mum? Is it the lip reading the helps tell the difference. Same with son and boy
Hi Ava, you're right. The lip pattern, as well as contextual clues for some signs will help differentiate between the two. Thanks for watching! 🖐️

@@CommandingHands Thank you so much for your help and for the wonderful videos!
Very interesting. I was taught something quite different for days of the week.
Great content for beginners! Keep it coming. 😀
This is an amazing thing to do and I love learning BSL. Thanks!!
I'm a bit confused since some people say Saturday is rubbing the back of your hand. Is there any correct way or are they all fine to use?
Is the sign for monday and mum the same?
Dan, thanks a million!!! Does it mean when we say Happy Sunday we do the same sign twice?

can you do a weather vid
Thank you, excellent
Thanks for your videos
Thank you 🙂
Great! Thank you.
Your videos are great but they are focused on nouns and adjectives. Please can you show more verbs?
Monday & mother... Friday & father... Why they are same signs? Won't it make confusion?
Thanks
Too many signs are just the first letter of the English word twice. What’s the difference between ‘Monday’ and ‘mother’ and ‘Friday’ and ‘father’?

Contextual clues and lip pattern!

hiya, I'm too learning BSL. I know both ways for Monday that you described are correct, however, I'm not sure about Friday, sorry. :)
Contextual clues and lip patterns help differentiate between different words (and a letter) with the same sign!
Thanks
