    I am hoping to use your lessons to understand TESOL to my students. I seem to truly NOT be able to hear pitch, my whole life, forget singing. BUT your explanations may help me grasp some aspect of how I could change this and therefore be a better teacher........So thank you for your approach here.:

      Thanks for sharing your story with me! You're not alone in struggling to hear pitch. Some people speak with a wider pitch range, whereas others use a more narrow one. This video focuses on the main pitch changes that your students need to be aware of, so it may help you explain things to them: th-cam.com/video/iy3L1vzCCkc/w-d-xo.html

    I thought you might interested to hear that I am using your video for auditory training after a cochlear implant. All voices sound like a monotone to me, but I am beginning to hear some differences in pitch as I play the different segments over and over.

      Here's where to start: th-cam.com/video/S2UcCEdjO7s/w-d-xo.html This is the same exercise I share in the video, but it's just a simple exploration of pitch. I find that it's more complicated to talk about pitch than to actually USE it. It becomes easier to use your voice effectively with practice and experimentation. Just give it a try and see what happens!

    Can you do an analysis on Brad Pitt’s recent award speech? I feel like men’s pitch variation is not so obvious. Thanks!

    • @Englishwithkim
      @Englishwithkim  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a great idea. Due to copyright concerns, I don't feel comfortable sharing analysis videos on my TH-cam channel. That said, you can definitely hear the four main pitch levels in his voice, even though his natural speaking voice is lower. I encourage you to listen to a very short clip and see what you can hear for yourself. Which words are content words? Which are focus words? I often recommend listening to this interview between Bob Goff and Lewis Howes for obvious pitch variation in male voices. Bob's in particular is extra clear: th-cam.com/video/wXhgbg-3qfc/w-d-xo.html
